Lisa Stampnitzky is currently a lecturer at Harvard University in Social Studies . She specializes in human rights, terrorism and political violence, culture, and politics,. Her most recent book, based on extensive interviews with key figures in the field, is “Disciplining Terror: How Experts Invented “Terrorism.” The book is a fascinating study of the sociology of knowledge and how those studying political violence have created something new in the academy, “disciplining” it in the process.
Stampnitzky possesses both a M.A. and Ph.D. fromthe University of California at Berkeley in Sociology as well as a B.A in Sociology from New College of Florida. Her background includes fellowships at Harvard, Oxford, Ohio State, as well as the European University institute. She has also been the recipient of the 2012 Social Science History Association President’s Book Award. She is currently working on a manuscript entitled, The Lawyers’ War: Legalizing Torture in the War on Terror.

This secretly-filmed video exposes Newton Kachepa, MP for Mudzi North, inciting violence against people who belong to the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). "You say ZANU-PF kills? It doesn't kill. If you provoke it, it destroys", he tells a group of ZANU-PF supporters.
We also see a man claim that Kachepa boasted about killing opponents and threatened that he could be next. Later, the film shows a ZANU-PF rally confront an MDC rally in which one MDC supporter was killed and seven more severely injured.

From http://www.witness.org | In 2008, political violence erupted throughout Zimbabwe as a result of the contested national elections. Zimbabwean women of all ages, targeted for their political affiliations, were abducted from their workplaces and homes, raped, tortured, and beaten in secret torture centers. It is estimated that from May to July, state-sanctioned groups raped over 2,000 women and girls. The local police have ignored these women's pleas for protection and justice, and national leaders have been equally unresponsive to local and international demands for an end to the violence.
Hear Us features four of these women, who have come forward to demand justice from the Zimbabwean government and the Southern African Development Community. Women like Memory and Abigail, who struggle daily with the physical and psychological scars of their abuse, tell their stories to uncover the enduring effects of this violence on the women of Zimbabwe and their families.

The theatre of violence have started, election is next month in Nigeria and the youth have resorted to attacking themselves over those who do not care about the nation.
In Rivers State, people have been shot, two honorables dead, and on Sunday, APC office was bombed.
Meanwhile in the North, the youths have attacked the campaign bus of the President, set it on fire as you will see on the video here.
They are deceiving you, they have nothing for you, they promise ups and downs and they never fulfill, we have continued displayed a sign of stupidity and foolishness.
Political office holders are in their thousands and Nigerians are in their millions. The change you need is you. Not Buhari, not Jonathan. Let us start the change from us and remove religion, region from our daily activities and decisions we make.

Political violence is a common means used by people and governments around the world to achieve political goals. Many groups and individuals believe that their political systems will never respond to their political demands. As a result they believe that violence is not only justified but also necessary in order to achieve their political objectives. By the same token, many governments around the world believe they need to use violence in order to intimidate their populace into acquiescence. At other times, governments use force in order to defend their country from outside invasion or other threats of force. Political violence can take a number of forms including but not limited to those listed below. Non-action on the part of the government can also be characterized as a form of political violence. Some would argue that political violence and the modern nation-states are inseparable, as the drastic increase of political violence in the 20th century shows.
One form of political violence is genocide. Genocide is commonly defined as "the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group", though what constitutes enough of a "part" to qualify as genocide has been subject to much debate by legal scholars. Genocide is typically carried out with either the overt or covert support of the governments of those countries engaged in genocidal activities. The Holocaust is the most often cited historical example of genocide.

Her most recent book, based on extensive interviews with key figures in the field, is “Disciplining Terror: How Experts Invented “Terrorism.” The book is a fascinating study of the sociology of knowledge and how those studying political violence have created something new in the academy, “disciplining” it in the process.
Stampnitzky possesses both a M.A. and Ph.D. fromthe University of California at Berkeley in Sociology as well as a B.A in Sociology from New College of Florida. Her background includes fellowships at Harvard, Oxford, Ohio State, as well as the European University institute. She has also been the recipient of the 2012 Social Science History Association President’s Book Award. She is currently working on a manuscript entitled, The Lawyers’ War: Legalizing Torture in the War on Terror.
