US First Lady Laura Bush spent her only full day in Beijing on Sunday learning about the city's planned development, eating
Chinese dumplings and visiting the historic Ming Tombs.
At the new Urban Planning Museum in Beijing, Laura Bush was shown a variety of scale models, including one large room which contained an accurate model of the entire city as it would be in the near future.
The model is detailed enough that individual houses and streets can be seen - either as
3D models (in the metro area) or as aerial photos.
Though the Olympic facilities are still under construction in real life, Laura Bush was able to get a sneak peak at what they will look like when they are completed.
Laura Bush then went to lunch at a popular dumpling restaurant downtown.
After lunch, she went to tour the historic Ming Tombs to the
North of the city, where many Emperors and Empresses from that dynasty were buried.
On Monday, she and
President george
W. Bush will travel to
Mongolia for a short visit before returning home.
