The Ming Dynasty Tombs are located some 42 kilometers north-northwest of central Beijing, within the suburban Changping District of Beijing municipality. The site, located on the southern slope of Tianshou Mountain (originally Mount Huangtu), was chosen on the feng shui principles by the third Ming Dynasty emperor Yongle (1402--1424), who moved the capital of China from Nanjing to its the present location in Beijing. He is credited with envisioning the layout of the Ming-era Beijing as well as a number of landmarks and monuments located therein. After the construction of the Imperial Palace (the Forbidden City) in 1420, the Yongle Emperor selected his burial site and created his own mausoleum.

Der Seelenweg (shéndào - 神道 ) ist Teil der Mausoleums-Anlage der Ming Kaiser nahe Peking. Man betritt die Anlage durch das Drachen- und Phönix-Tor.
Der 1540 angelegte 800 m lange Weg der Seelen wird durch paarweise angeordnete überlebensgroße Tiere, mystische Figuren und Beamte aus Stein gesäumt. Beim liegenden Elefanten ist dem Bildhauer allerdings ein Fehler unterlaufen.
Durch den Weg der Seelen wurde der tote Kaiser auf seinem letzten Weg geleitet.
Im Stelenpavillon erhebt sich auf einer steinernen Schildkröte eine 6,5 m hohe Stele mit Inschriften des vierten Kaisers der Dynastie, Hongxi, der die Grabanlage seines Vaters beschreibt, der das Tal ausgewählt hatte.

The Spirit Way (shéndào - 神道) is part of the mausoleum complex of the Ming Emperor near Beijing. One enters the complex through the dragon and phoenix gate.
The 1540 scale 800 m long Spirit Way is flanked by paired larger-than-life animals, mystical figures and officials made of stone. In the video you will see that the sculptor has made a mistake with the lying elephant.
On his final journey, the dead emperor was guided through the Spirit Way.
In the stele pavilion, a 6.5 m high stele stands on a stone turtle with inscriptions of Hongxi, the fourth emperor of the dynasty. It describes the grave plant of his father, who had selected the valley.

The Dingling (丁零, dingling in standard Mandarin dialect, 정령 Jeongnyeong in Korean) were an ancient Siberian people. They originally lived on the bank of the Lena River in the area west of Lake Baikal, gradually moving southward to Mongolia and northern China. They were subsequently part of the Xiongnu Empire.
Around the 3rd century they were assimilated into the Tiele (鐵勒, Die Lei), also named Gaoche (高車, Go Ke) or Chile (敕勒, Chul Luk)),[citation needed] who gradually expanded westward into Central Asia.
Although the words Dingling, Gaoche, Chile and Tiele are often used interchangeably, this usage is erroneous as pointed out by modern academia[citation needed].
The Dingling were a warlike group of hunters, fishers, and gatherers of the southern Siberian mountain taiga region from Lake Baikal to northern Mongolia. Chinese records do not mention the physical appearance of the Dingling, suggesting general homogeneity with people of the Asiatic region, and their name appears rarely.
They might have been correlated with the Guifang (鬼方), a northern tribe that appears in the oracle bone inscriptions from Yinxu during the 1st millennium BCE.

After our invigorating visit to the Great Wall we rode our bus to the Ming Tombs. These are the mausoleums of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Only two are open to the public. The first and biggest is Changling, the tomb of Emperor Zhu Di and his empresses. This is the most magnificent of the tombs. The succeeding twelve emperors had their tombs built around Changling. The Sacred Way is a paved road lined with statues leading to the tombs. We walked it afterward. The next day in Beijing we visited the Temple of Heaven, which is much larger than the Forbidden City! The Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. As Chinese emperors called themselves 'The Son of Heaven' ,they dared not to build their own dwelling,'Forbidden City' bigger ... -

The Ming Tombs are located about 48 km (31 miles) northwest of Beijing at a carefully selected site. The Ming Tombs site was chosen by the third Ming Dynasty emperor YongLe (1402 - 1424), who moved the capital city of China from Nanjing to the present location of Beijing. He is credited with envisioning the layout of the ancient city of Beijing as well as a number of landmarks and monuments located therein. After the construction of the Imperial Palace (the Forbidden City) in 1420, YongLe selected his burial site and created his own mausoleum. Der 1540 angelegte 800 m lange Weg der Seelen wird durch paarweise angeordnete überlebensgroße Tiere, mystische Figuren und Beamte aus Stein gesäumt. Beim liegenden Elefanten ist dem Bildhauer allerdings ein Fehler unterlaufen.
Durch den Weg der Seelen wurde der tote Kaiser auf seinem letzten Weg geleitet.
Im Stelenpavillon erhebt sich auf einer steinernen Schildkröte eine 6,5 m hohe Stele mit Inschriften des vierten Kaisers der Dynastie, Hongxi, der die Grabanlage seines Vaters beschreibt, der das Tal ausgewählt hatte.

The 1540 scale 800 m long Spirit Way is flanked by paired larger-than-life animals, mystical figures and officials made of stone. In the video you will see that the sculptor has made a mistake with the lying elephant.
On his final journey, the dead emperor was guided through the Spirit Way.
In the stele pavilion, a 6.5 m high stele stands on a stone turtle with inscriptions of Hongxi, the fourth emperor of the dynasty. It describes the grave plant of his father, who had selected the valley.

After our invigorating visit to the Great Wall we rode our bus to the Ming Tombs. These are the mausoleums of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Only two are open to the public. The first and biggest is Changling, the tomb of Emperor Zhu Di and his empresses. This is the most magnificent of the tombs. The succeeding twelve emperors had their tombs built around Changling. The Sacred Way is a paved road lined with statues leading to the tombs. We walked it afterward.
The next day in Beijing we visited the Temple of Heaven, which is much larger than the Forbidden City! The Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. As Chinese emperors called themselves 'The Son of Heaven' ,they dared not to build their own dwelling,'Forbidden City' bigger than a dwelling for Heaven.

The Ming Tombs site was chosen by the third Ming Dynasty emperor YongLe (1402 - 1424), who moved the capital city of China from Nanjing to the present location of Beijing. He is credited with envisioning the layout of the ancient city of Beijing as well as a number of landmarks and monuments located therein. After the construction of the Imperial Palace (the Forbidden City) in 1420, YongLe selected his burial site and created his own mausoleum.
The Ming Tombs form the most extensive burial complex of any chinese dynasty and are one of the finest preserved pieces of 15th century chinese art and architecture. The Ming Tombs were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in August 2003 along with other tombs under the 'Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties' designation.

Changling is located at the foot of Heavenly Longevity Hill. It is the tomb for the 3rd Ming Emperor Zhudi and his wife Empress Xu. Changling is the first, largest and also the best-preserved tomb of the 13 Ming Tombs. Construction of it started from 1409. It took 18 years and was completed in 1427. The layout of Changling just followed the example of Xiaoling in Nanjing, the tomb for the first Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. STORY LINE
US First Lady Laura Bush spent her only full day in Beijing on Sunday learning about the city's planned development, eating Chinese dumplings and visiting the historic Ming Tombs.
At the new Urban Planning Museum in Beijing, Laura Bush was shown a variety of scale models, including one large room which contained an accurate model of the entire city as it would be in the near future.
The model is detailed enough that individual houses and streets can be seen - either as 3D models (in the metro area) or as aerial photos.
Though the Olympic facilities are still under construction in real life, Laura Bush was able to get a sneak peak at what they will look like when they are completed.
Laura Bush then went to lunch at a popular dumpling restaurant downtown.
After lunch, she went to tour the historic Ming Tombs to the North of the city, where many Emperors and Empresses from that dynasty were buried.
On Monday, she and President george W. Bush will travel to Mongolia for a short visit before returning home.

Changling is the first, largest and also the best-preserved tomb of the 13 Ming Tombs. Construction of it started from 1409. It took 18 years and was completed in 1427. The layout of Changling just followed the example of Xiaoling in Nanjing, the tomb for the first Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. Structures along the central axis are: the Front Gate to the tomb, the Gate of Eminent Favor, the Hall of Eminent Favor, the Dragon and Phoenix Gate, Soul Tower and the wall-encircled Earth Mound. The design of Changling is square in the front and round at the back, reflecting the ancient Chinese belief that Heaven is round and the Earth is square. The Gate of Eminent Favor and the Hall of Eminent Favor of Changling on the central axis are still standing today. The satellite was moved by released of on board gas jets to nudge the satellite to over China instead of over the U.S. Our job was to get the equipment already in the new ChinaSat Operations building . There was an also a satellite dish that went with the sale of the satellite. These videos are mostly about the Beijing tourist places the satellite engineers visited. These tours were arrange by the hotel and the busses would pick us a take us to several mounts. These tours took several trips over several different days.

From the Novel written by Jinsong Legend of the Dragonslayer Sword the end of the novel, Zhu Yuanzhang managed to trick Zhang Wuji and seize power. When he became emperor, he named his dynasty Ming to honor the Ming Cult. But it is nothing but the Novel,historically, Zhu Yuanzhang was a general under the command of Liu Futong. Liu Futong was a member of the White Lotus Sect, a semi-religious organization which was heavily influenced by the Ming doctrine. Liu Futong claimed that the son of White Lotus leader Han Shantong, Han Lin'er was the descendant of the Imperial House of the Song dynasty. He then proclaimed Han Futong as "Damingwang"The greatKing of light“,Han Lin'er(Han Futong's son) as "Xiaomingwang" or the Little King of Light (the King of Light is the same as the God of Light in Manichaeism), emperor of the new Song dynasty. After the death of Liu Futong, power slowly moved into the hands of Zhu Yuanzhang and Han Lin'er became just a puppet emperor. Zhu Yuanzhang then had Han Lin'er assassinated and became emperor. Zhu then named his dynasty the Ming dynasty to "honor" Xiaomingwang and to prove that he is the legitimate successor of Han Lin'er's throne. There's no historical evidence that Zhu Yuanzhang was a follower of the Ming Cult, nor is it certain that the dynastic name is really derived from the Ming Cult.
Furthermore, it is also mentioned in the novel that rebel leader Fang La of the Northern Song dynasty once was the leader of the Ming Cult. In the past, many scholars thought Fang La was indeed Manichaeist -- just because he was a vegetarian. In recent years, research has proved that Fang La had no connection with the Ming Cult at all.

I'm curious - just how strong or big is Wu Sangui's Army at that time compared to the Manchus and Li Zicheng.
and I thought - allying with the Manchus...a Barbaric Tribe was a bigger crime than joining Li Zicheng. afterall Li and his army were still Han Chinese.
