Using a cane or crutch when you have an injury can be very confusing especially when characters on TV shows don't even use them right! Once you get the hang of it, it becomes very easy and natural. When we walk normally, our opposite arm swings forward with our opposite leg. When using a cane, you want the same technique so you don't risk injuring something else while you are recovering.
The most important part to start with is to make sure your cane is the right height. Most canes have a pin you can push in to change the height. On your upper leg there is a bone that sticks out called your greater trochanter. It is just below your hip. This is where you want the top of the cane. You should have a slight bend in your elbow about 20 degrees. If the cane is too high, you might irritate your shoulder, and if it is too low, you might lean over too much.
Now for the walking part. The cane should be in the opposite hand of the injured side. Yes, House, MD did it wrong! The cane should always move with the injured side. If the injured side goes forward, the cane goes forward for support. Again, this is how our bodies naturally move; so don't think about it too much. Just move how you would normally move. The cane should be for balance and safety, and if you feel like you are pushing really hard on it, or if you can't walk smoothly, then you probably are not ready for a cane yet.

Mike & Lex are trying out some Candy Canes in a blind-fold taste test challenge. They try strange Candy Cane flavors like Dill Pickle, Sriracha Hot Sauce, Gravy, Spicy Cinnamon (Red Hots), Cappuccino & Wasabi. They try some other unusual flavors like A&W; Root Beer, Orange Crush Soda, Dr. Pepper Hershey's Chocolate Mint, Key Lime Pie, Cherry Pie, Banana Cream & Strawberry Shortcake Candy Canes. The only normal types we had were War Head Wildberry Candy Canes & Jelly Belly Tutti Frutti, Watermelon & Blueberry Candy Canes! Thumbs up for trying out all these cool flavors! At the end, the kids blend up all of the flavors into a smoothie and taste it! YUCK!

+ Nice looking Steampunk / gentleman's cane
+ Very affordable, and reasonable functionality for the price
+ Fairly sturdy blade, bends with hard (ab)use but easy to fix
- Pointless button, hard to reach and fails to secure the blade
- Mediocre fit, dubious hilt construction
- Paint chips easily
- Oddly shaped, somewhat awkward finger grooves
*** Verdict ***
At first I didn't think this sword cane would survive my testing, as it felt somewhat flimsy. But it held up better than expected. The blade is rigid enough to be a good thrusting blade but can flex significantly and tends to bend rather than break.
As a self-defense tool I personally wouldn't trust it. It could be lethal no doubt but a determined attacker could grab and control the dull blade, and its light weight makes anything but shallow tip cuts unfeasible. The shaft could be used for striking but it seems that it might break easily.
As a costume or collector's piece it's nice enough though, and stabbing light targets like fruit or vegetables, water bottles, foam blocks etc. can definitely be fun.

Cane is either of two genera of tall, perennial grasses with flexible, woody stalks from the family Poaceae, that grow throughout the world. The genera include species of bamboo. The genus Arundo is native from the Mediterranean region to the Far East. Arundinaria is found in the New World. Cane commonly grows in large riparian stands known as canebrakes, found in toponyms throughout the Southern and Far Western United States; they are much like the tules of California.
Depending on strength, cane can be fashioned for various purposes such as as tools and walking sticks/crutches. Judicial canes, or school canes. Where canes are used in corporal punishment, they must meet particular specifications, such as a high degree of flexibility. Cane historically has been used for many other purposes such as baskets, furniture, boats, roofs and wherever stiff, withy sticks can be put to good use.
English "cane" derives from biblical Hebrew Qana, which is also used for the beam of a "balance" (Isaiah 46:6), "a staff of reed" (i.e., a walking-stick, Isaiah 36:6 and Ezekiel 29:6), and the "branches" of a candlestick (Exodus 37:18). Most famously, the word appears in Ezekiel as the measuring "rod" used on the prophet Ezekiel's visionary temple, and in Revelation, where it is used to measure the New Jerusalem.

But it held up better than expected. The blade is rigid enough to be a good thrusting blade but can flex significantly and tends to bend rather than break. As a self-defense tool I personally wouldn't trust it. It could be lethal no doubt but a determined attacker could grab and control the dull blade, and its light weight makes anything but shallow tip cuts unfeasible. The shaft could be used for striking but it seems that it might break easily. Using a cane or crutch when you have an injury can be very confusing especially when characters on TV shows don't even use them right! Once you get the hang of it, it becomes very easy and natural. When we walk normally, our opposite arm swings forward with our opposite leg. When using a cane, you want the same technique so you don't risk injuring something else while you are recovering.
The most important part to start with is to make sure your cane is the right height. Most canes have a pin you can push in to change the height. On your upper leg there is a bone that sticks out called your greater trochanter. It is just below your hip. This is where you want the top of the cane. You should have a slight bend in your elbow about 20 degrees. If the cane is too high, you might irritate your shoulder, and if it is too low, you might lean over too much.
Now for the walking part. The cane should be in the opposite hand of the injured side. Yes, House, MD did it wrong! The cane should always move with the injured side. If the injured side goes forward, the cane goes forward for support. Again, this is how our bodies naturally move; so don't think about it too much. Just move how you would normally move. The cane should be for balance and safety, and if you feel like you are pushing really hard on it, or if you can't walk smoothly, then you probably are not ready for a cane yet.

*** Verdict ***
At first I didn't think this sword cane would survive my testing, as it felt somewhat flimsy. But it held up better than expected. The blade is rigid enough to be a good thrusting blade but can flex significantly and tends to bend rather than break.
As a self-defense tool I personally wouldn't trust it. It could be lethal no doubt but a determined attacker could grab and control the dull blade, and its light weight makes anything but shallow tip cuts unfeasible. The shaft could be used for striking but it seems that it might break easily.
As a costume or collector's piece it's nice enough though, and stabbing light targets like fruit or vegetables, water bottles, foam blocks etc. can definitely be fun.

This is a pretty solid replica from the game, although it is quite hollow in reality. Certainly not a combat ready prop but it looks rather good even if it may be fragile in construction. I recommend as a wall hanger and cosplay piece but certainly not for much else.
