Venice (English /ˈvɛnɪs/ VEN-iss; Italian: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]) is a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline, between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.
Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. In 2009, there were 270,098 people residing in Venice's comune (the population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; of whom around 60,000 live in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the mainland), mostly in the large frazioni (roughly equivalent to "parishes" or "wards" in other countries) of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 on other islands in the lagoon). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), with a total population of 2,600,000. The ‘city of lagoons’, Venice became the capital of romance, the dream of honeymooners, and destination of millions because of the Saint Mark’s Cathedral, the St. Mark’s Clock, the Doge’s Palace, the Bridge of the Sighs and the tower of Campanile. The city living under the wing of the lion is a capital of Byzantian, Gothic and Renessaince architecture. Almost hundred palaces on the bank of the Canale Grande are like a living exhibition. From a gondola we can take a look at the Santa Maria Della Salute church, the Rialto Bridge, while taking the narrow calles instead of the canals, one can also see the birthplace of Marco Polo, the Zanipolo temple and the statue of Colleoni. Let us take a boat trip to the island of lagoons, to the Lido, to Murano, which is famous of its glass makers and to ...

This is happening too many times over the past year with various explanations for me to believe the mainstream narrative. Why have beaches suddenly dried up overnight in Brazil, Uruguay, India and now Mexico and Rome? Similar to what happened after Hurricane Irma in Florida, we have significant water recession overnight across many of these beaches and waterways. Additionally, there are record draughts across CA and portions of the US, also in Cape Town South Africa (crazy stuff). Venice, more than any other European city, has an endlessly seductive charm. For centuries, it was nicknamed La Serenissima, "The Most Serenely Beautiful One"— and for good reason. Along with sampling the sumptuous art treasures of Venice and exploring its back-street wonders, we'll cruise its lagoon, stopping in fiery Murano for glass, pastel Burano for lace, and murky Torcello for a sense of where Venice was born. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe
