The resurrected World Trade Center opened for business on Monday, marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation as a whole.
Staffers of publishing giant Conde Nast began moving into their new offices at One World Trade Center, becoming the first commercial tenants in the US's tallest building thirteen years after the 9/11 attacks.
More than 170 employees have moved into five of Conde Nast's 25 floors, the company said.
By early 2015, about 3,000 more staffers will move in.
The 104-story, 3.9 US billion (b) dollar skyscraper dominates the Manhattan skyline.
It's the centrepiece of the 16-acre site where the decimated twin towers once stood and where more than 2,700 people died on September 11, 2001, buried under smoking mounds of fiery debris.
The building is 60 percent leased, with another 80,000 square feet going to the advertising firm Kids Creative, the stadium operator Legends Hospitality, the BMB Group investment adviser, and Servcorp, a provider of executive offices.
The government's General Services Administration signed up for 275,000 square feet, and the China Centre, a trade and cultural facility, will cover 191,000 square feet.
The downtown area has prospered in recent years beyond anyone's imagination.
About 60,000 more residents now live there - three times more than before 9/11 - keeping streets, restaurants and shops alive even after Wall Street and other offices close for the day.
Tara Stacom, of the Cushman & Wakefield leasing agency, said the mix of commercial tenants - including media and technology companies - will only enhance the area's vibrancy.
The eight-year construction of the 1,776-foot high skyscraper came after years of political, financial and legal infighting that threatened to derail the project.
Prior to the move, the Port Authority addressed any issues employees might have had about moving into the tower, describing the site as the "safest class A office space in the world."

Condé Nast Traveler ranked Palawan as #1 of the Top Islands in the World. The Huffington Post stated last month that Palawan is the most beautiful Island in the World. What else can I say?
If you're looking for paradise you can't miss this place: El Nido at the northern end of Palawan was definitely the most picturesque place I have visited in the Philippines! Beaches, lagoons and an underwater life that will amaze you. The archipelago of El Nido is absolutely stunning! If they ever get 24/7 electricity and a decent internet connection in Palawan, I'm so gonna move there and never come back. How to get there: There are daily flights from Manila, Cebu or Iloilo to Puerto Princesa. From Puerto Princesa Airport you can catch a minibus to El Nido (5-6 hours). I wrote a detailed blog post about El Nido in Palawan - about things to do and places to stay. If you plan to visit Palawan, you might find this post helpful: Unspoiled Paradise on Earth - The Archipelago of El Nido.
Hi, I absolutely agree. I traveled a lot in the past 5 years and saw many beatiful places. But my absolute favorite is El Nido.
I learned diving there with 'Submariner' diving center. I can highly recommend Ronny and his diving center and I am looking forward traveling there again in the future.
We did stay directly in the main village, but 10 minutes from the cemetery. For the island hopping we rented a private boat from an old man living close to our place. The price was comparable to the official tours, but we started earlier and did not see that many people on the island, so I can recommend that.
We got there by van and left El Nido with the boat for Coron where we stayed another few days. From there you can fly to Manila.

Hi, yes its beautiful, but remember to check the weather! I have been in the phillipines now for two weeks, and the first five days was a storm, almost like a tyfoon, meaning nothing looked like those perfect pictures you see all the time.... Sure the weather got better, but still i had a lot of rain, both north and south and some islands. I wish i had checked the weather, because once you are stuck on an island in a cheap accomodation its not much fun, cold water, cold rain, nowhere to dry your clothes, nothing to do ( no diving) etc. Also i meet a lot of people who where only here one or two weeks who also had no clue about the weather. Meaning their holiday was one big dissapointment. So yes you can have good weather dec-febr, but if you want to be sure, better come in march to may.

I have just one comment on your 2014 update on getting to El Nido—there are still flights going to El Nido. These are operated solely by Island Transvoyager (ITI) now though, and if you're not booking your stay at any of the El Nido Resorts (Pangulasian, Lagen, Miniloc, and Apulit Islands), it will be very difficult for you to book a flight with the airline. I think the reason for this is that the resorts and the airline have the same owners, or at least they have some sort of partnership. I'm not saying it is impossible, just that ITI is prioritizing customers who are also booked at one of the El Nido Resorts. I just booked our (my husband and myself) stay at Miniloc Island online (www.elnidoresorts.com), and there you have the option to book your flight Manila-El Nido through them as well but not the option to book just the flight...
Btw, it's not our first time to travel to El Nido either. We traveled there back in 2008, but stayed at one of those backpacker resorts in El Nido town. At the time there were still other flights going to El Nido, albeit only ITI offers a direct flight (all the others were via Puerto Princesa). Not wanting to go through the hassle of 2-legged flights, I tried booking at ITI. I had to call them over the phone only to be told the best they could offer was to put us on a waiting list as their priority is on customers already booked at the El Nido Resorts... In short, we ended up taking the two-legged flight via Puerto Princesa anyway (which wasn't a waste as we were also able to visit some of the worthy sites there as well, e.g. Crocodile and Butterfly farms).
Well, I hope this post helps anyone out there who may want to visit El Nido 😉

Suzy Menkes, OBE (born 24 December 1943) has been head fashion reporter and Editor for the International Herald Tribune since 1988. In that time she has written over 1.7 million words in the paper.[citation needed]
Menkes was born in Britain. She was educated at Brighton and Hove High School. In the 1960s, she went as a teenager to Paris to study dressmaking. Viewing her first couture show at Nina Ricci sparked her interest in high fashion.
On her return from Paris, she read history and English literature at Cambridge University. After Cambridge, she worked for The Times reporting on fashion. In addition to her journalism, she has written several books, particularly on British Royal style.
Among Menkes's trademarks is her signature pompadour. She lives in Paris, is widowed and has three sons and three granddaughters. She holds the Legion d'Honneur in France and a British OBE.
In November 2009, she appeared as one of the judges on the finale of Lifetime TV series Project Runway. In 1996 she appeared in the second 'Last Shout' special in British comedy Absolutely Fabulous, playing herself.

The price was comparable to the official tours, but we started earlier and did not see that many people on the island, so I can recommend that. I have been in the phillipines now for two weeks, and the first five days was a storm, almost like a tyfoon, meaning nothing looked like those perfect pictures you see all the time.... Sure the weather got better, but still i had a lot of rain, both north and south and some islands. I wish i had checked the weather, because once you are stuck on an island in a cheap accomodation its not much fun, cold water, cold rain, nowhere to dry your clothes, nothing to do ( no diving) etc. Also i meet a lot of people who where only here one or two weeks who also had no clue about the weather. Meaning their holiday was one big dissapointment. So yes you can have good weather dec-febr, but if you want to be sure, better come in march to may. Clara Hi, Sabrina! Awesome blog you've got here... 😊 I have just one comment on your 2014 update on getting to El Nido—there are still flights going to El Nido. These are operated solely by Island Transvoyager (ITI) now though, and if you're not booking your stay at any of the El Nido Resorts (Pangulasian, Lagen, Miniloc, and Apulit Islands), it will be very difficult for you to book a flight with the airline. I think the reason for this is that the resorts and the airline have the same owners, or at least they have some sort of partnership. I'm not saying it is impossible, just that ITI is prioritizing customers who are also booked at one of the El Nido Resorts. I just booked our (my husband and myself) stay at Miniloc Island online (www.elnidoresorts.com), and there you have the option to book your flight Manila-El Nido through them as well but not the option to book just the flight... Btw, it's not our first time to travel to El Nido either. We traveled there back in 2008, but stayed at one of those backpacker resorts in El Nido town. At the time there were still other flights going to El Nido, albeit only ITI offers a direct flight (all the others were via Puerto Princesa). Not wanting to go through the hassle of 2-legged flights, I tried booking at ITI. I had to call them over the phone only to be told the best they could offer was to put us on a waiting list as their priority is on customers already booked at the El Nido Resorts... In short, we ended up taking the two-legged flight via Puerto Princesa anyway (which wasn't a waste as we were also able to visit some of the worthy sites there as well, e.g. Crocodile and Butterfly farms). The resurrected World Trade Center opened for business on Monday, marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation as a whole. Staffers of publishing giant Conde Nast began moving into their new offices at One World Trade Center, becoming the first commercial tenants in the US's tallest building thirteen years after the 9/11 attacks. More than 170 employees have moved into five of Conde Nast's 25 floors, the company said. By early 2015, about 3,000 more staffers will move in. The downtown area has prospered in recent years beyond anyone's imagination.

The resurrected World Trade Center opened for business on Monday, marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation as a whole.
Staffers of publishing giant Conde Nast began moving into their new offices at One World Trade Center, becoming the first commercial tenants in the US's tallest building thirteen years after the 9/11 attacks.
More than 170 employees have moved into five of Conde Nast's 25 floors, the company said.
By early 2015, about 3,000 more staffers will move in.

Condé Nast Traveler ranked Palawan as #1 of the Top Islands in the World. The Huffington Post stated last month that Palawan is the most beautiful Island in the World. What else can I say?
If you're looking for paradise you can't miss this place: El Nido at the northern end of Palawan was definitely the most picturesque place I have visited in the Philippines! Beaches, lagoons and an underwater life that will amaze you. The archipelago of El Nido is absolutely stunning! If they ever get 24/7 electricity and a decent internet connection in Palawan, I'm so gonna move there and never come back. How to get there: There are daily flights from Manila, Cebu or Iloilo to Puerto Princesa. From Puerto Princesa Airport you can catch a minibus to El Nido (5-6 hours). I wrote a detailed blog post about El Nido in Palawan - about things to do and places to stay. If you plan to visit Palawan, you might find this post helpful: Unspoiled Paradise on Earth - The Archipelago of El Nido.
Hi, I absolutely agree. I traveled a lot in the past 5 years and saw many beatiful places. But my absolute favorite is El Nido.
I learned diving there with 'Submariner' diving center. I can highly recommend Ronny and his diving center and I am looking forward traveling there again in the future.
We did stay directly in the main village, but 10 minutes from the cemetery. For the island hopping we rented a private boat from an old man living close to our place. The price was comparable to the official tours, but we started earlier and did not see that many people on the island, so I can recommend that.
We got there by van and left El Nido with the boat for Coron where we stayed another few days. From there you can fly to Manila.

Hi, yes its beautiful, but remember to check the weather! I have been in the phillipines now for two weeks, and the first five days was a storm, almost like a tyfoon, meaning nothing looked like those perfect pictures you see all the time.... Sure the weather got better, but still i had a lot of rain, both north and south and some islands. I wish i had checked the weather, because once you are stuck on an island in a cheap accomodation its not much fun, cold water, cold rain, nowhere to dry your clothes, nothing to do ( no diving) etc. Also i meet a lot of people who where only here one or two weeks who also had no clue about the weather. Meaning their holiday was one big dissapointment. So yes you can have good weather dec-febr, but if you want to be sure, better come in march to may.

I have just one comment on your 2014 update on getting to El Nido—there are still flights going to El Nido. These are operated solely by Island Transvoyager (ITI) now though, and if you're not booking your stay at any of the El Nido Resorts (Pangulasian, Lagen, Miniloc, and Apulit Islands), it will be very difficult for you to book a flight with the airline. I think the reason for this is that the resorts and the airline have the same owners, or at least they have some sort of partnership. I'm not saying it is impossible, just that ITI is prioritizing customers who are also booked at one of the El Nido Resorts. I just booked our (my husband and myself) stay at Miniloc Island online (www.elnidoresorts.com), and there you have the option to book your flight Manila-El Nido through them as well but not the option to book just the flight...
Btw, it's not our first time to travel to El Nido either. We traveled there back in 2008, but stayed at one of those backpacker resorts in El Nido town. At the time there were still other flights going to El Nido, albeit only ITI offers a direct flight (all the others were via Puerto Princesa). Not wanting to go through the hassle of 2-legged flights, I tried booking at ITI. I had to call them over the phone only to be told the best they could offer was to put us on a waiting list as their priority is on customers already booked at the El Nido Resorts... In short, we ended up taking the two-legged flight via Puerto Princesa anyway (which wasn't a waste as we were also able to visit some of the worthy sites there as well, e.g. Crocodile and Butterfly farms).
Well, I hope this post helps anyone out there who may want to visit El Nido 😉

Ultimately, some 3,400 employees of the media giant will occupy floors 20 through 44, or 1.2 million of the building's 3 million square feet of office space, according to The New York Times.
One World Trade Center was built on the site of Six World Trade Center, a building badly damaged by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the adjacent landmark Twin Towers of the original World Trade Center.
At 1,776 feet including the spire, the new building is the tallest in North America.
“The New York City skyline has been restored,” Patrick Foye, executive director of the Port Authority, told the New York Daily News. The Port Authority co-owns the building with the Durst Organization.
“Conde Nast’s arrival puts a stiletto in the heart of the outdated notion that Lower Manhattan is stuffy and gray,” Jessica Lappin, president of the Downtown Alliance business organization, told the Times. “They will accelerate the transformation that’s well underway and create additional demand-side pressure for more cool restaurants, art galleries and bars.”
