Vincent Walker "Vince" Foster, Jr. (January 15, 1945 – July 20, 1993) was a Deputy White House Counsel during the first few months of President Bill Clinton's administration. Before that he was a partner at Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas and a colleague and friend of Hillary Rodham Clinton. At the White House, he was unhappy with work in politics, and spiraled into depression, leading to his suicide in 1993. His death remains a subject of interest among conspiracy theorists.
Wrestling with evident depression[9][11] (which after his death would be assessed as clinical depression),[17] Foster was prescribed the anti-depressant medication Trazodone over the phone by his Arkansas doctor, though he was given an insufficient initial dosage to have much effect.[9] The next day, Foster was found dead in Fort Marcy Park, a federal park in Virginia. He was found with a gun in his hand and gunshot residue on that hand. An autopsy determined that he was shot in the mouth and no other wounds were found on his body. A suicide note of sorts, in actuality a draft resignation letter, was found torn into 27 pieces in his briefcase. The letter contained a list of complaints, specifically including, "The WSJ editors lie without consequence"[18] and lamenting, "I was not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life in Washington. Here ruining people is considered sport."
His funeral Mass was held at the Cathedral of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Little Rock. Bill Clinton gave an emotional eulogy in which he recalled their boyhood times together and quoted a line from Leon Russell's "A Song for You": "I love you in a place that has no space and time."[19] Foster was buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery in his hometown of Hope. Foster was 48 years old and was survived by his wife and three children.
There have been three official investigations into Foster's death, all of which concluded that he committed suicide.[20]
The first was by the United States Park Police in 1993, in whose jurisdiction the original investigation fell. Due to Foster's position in the White House, the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation. Investigations by a coroner and Independent Counsel Robert B. Fiske, in a 58-page report released in 1994, also concluded that Foster had committed suicide.[14] Theories of a cover-up still persisted, some of which were promulgated by the Arkansas Project. After a three-year investigation, Whitewater independent counsel Ken Starr[21][22] released a report in 1997 also concluding that the death was a suicide.[14] In addition, two investigations by the U.S. Congress found that Foster committed suicide.
Foster's death, occurring just six months into the new administration, is thought by some to have ended the optimism and remaining innocence of the White House staff.[23] White House chief-of-staff and childhood friend Mack McLarty said that "It was a deep cut. It clearly had a tremendous impact."[23] Fellow White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum felt that if Foster had lived, he would have helped resist the calls to appoint Independent Counsels, and the many investigations lumped under the Whitewater umbrella that occupied the administration and Clinton for the rest of his presidency, might not have happened.[23] As it happened, how Hillary Clinton's chief of staff, Margaret Williams, in particular handled Foster's files and documents immediately after his death became an issue of much investigation itself.[14][24]
His passing also had an effect on Rose Law Firm, as many within the firm had expected Foster to become its leader once he returned from service in Washington.[10] He was also thought likely to someday become president of the state bar association or a choice for a federal judgeship.[2] Beginning in 1993, the Vince Foster, Jr., Outstanding Lawyer Award was given out annually by the Pulaski County Bar Association to recognize members who contributed to the bar and advanced the legal profession.

Vincent Walker Foster, Jr. (January 15, 1945 – July 20, 1993) was a Deputy White House Counsel during the first few months of President Bill Clinton's administration, and also a law partner and friend of Hillary Rodham Clinton. His death was ruled a suicide by multiple official investigations, but remains a subject of interest among conspiracy theorists.
Foster was born in Hope, Arkansas, to Alice Mae and Vincent W. Foster. His father was in real estate sales, and he had two sisters, Sheila and Sharon. He was a childhood neighbor and friend of Bill Clinton for the first eight years of his life, until Clinton moved away. He graduated from Hope High School in 1963 as president of his class.
Foster attended Davidson College, graduating in 1967. His father wanted him to go into the family real estate business, but he chose law instead.
After starting at Vanderbilt University Law School, he joined the Arkansas National Guard during the height of the Vietnam War. In order to be closer to his guard responsibilities, he transferred to the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he was managing editor of the law review and received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1971, graduating first in his class. Additionally he scored the highest in his class on the Arkansas bar exam.

Lawrence T. Nichols is a professor of sociology in the Division of Sociology and Anthropology at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Nichols is renowned for his scholarly research. He serves as editor of The American Sociologist, a peer-reviewed journal that examines the history, current status, and future prospects of the discipline of sociology. Dr. Nichols also has a great rapport with students.[citation needed] His teaching method makes extensive use of categorization of concepts. He is credited with establishing criminology concentration at West Virginia University. Dr. Nichols was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 21, 1947. He received an AB (1969) and MA (1973) from St. Louis University and a Ph.D. from Boston College in 1985.
One of his particular claims to fame is the postulation, with Anthony F. Buono, of the Stockholder–stakeholder model of corporate social responsibility in the seminal work, "Stockholder and Stakeholder Interpretation of Business' Social Role".

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III; August 19, 1946) is an American politician who served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Inaugurated at age 46, he was the third-youngest president. He took office at the end of the Cold War, and was the first president of the baby boomer generation. Clinton has been described as a New Democrat. Many of his policies have been attributed to a centrist Third Way philosophy of governance.
Born and raised in Arkansas, Clinton became both a student leader and a skilled musician. He is an alumnus of Georgetown University where he was Phi Beta Kappa and earned a Rhodes Scholarship to attend the University of Oxford. He is married to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has served as the United States Secretary of State since 2009 and was a Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009. Both Clintons received law degrees from Yale Law School, where they met and began dating. As Governor of Arkansas, Clinton overhauled the state's education system, and served as Chair of the National Governors Association.

Bill Clinton gave an emotional eulogy in which he recalled their boyhood times together and quoted a line from Leon Russell's "A Song for You": "I love you in a place that has no space and time."[19] Foster was buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery in his hometown of Hope. Foster was 48 years old and was survived by his wife and three children.
There have been three official investigations into Foster's death, all of which concluded that he committed suicide.[20]
The first was by the United States Park Police in 1993, in whose jurisdiction the original investigation fell. Due to Foster's position in the White House, the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation. Investigations by a coroner and Independent Counsel Robert B. Fiske, in a 58-page report released in 1994, also concluded that Foster had committed suicide.[14] Theories of a cover-up still persisted, some of which were promulgated by the Arkansas Project. After a three-year investigation, Whitewater independent counsel Ken Starr[21][22] released a report in 1997 also concluding that the death was a suicide.[14] In addition, two investigations by the U.S. Congress found that Foster committed suicide.
Foster's death, occurring just six months into the new administration, is thought by some to have ended the optimism and remaining innocence of the White House staff.[23] White House chief-of-staff and childhood friend Mack McLarty said that "It was a deep cut. Mr Knowlton was an unknowing witness to events in Fort Marcy Park in Virginia on the day Vince Foster's body was found dead; the same day his office in the Clinton White House was discovered ransacked--and the same day the FBI was supposed to conduct a search of his office for Whitewater evidence. Watch as Mr. Knowlton describes the strange campaign of intimidation against him before he was scheduled to testify, and the threatening man in Ft. Marcy park. Essentially he was being "urged" to testify that the 83 or 84 Honda Accord and other details he saw were not what he really saw.
Foster had been the deputy White House counsel & also the personal attorney to Bill and Hillary Clinton during Whitewater. His office was scheduled to be searched by the FBI the day he was found dead, and the office was torn apart that night.

Wrestling with evident depression[9][11] (which after his death would be assessed as clinical depression),[17] Foster was prescribed the anti-depressant medication Trazodone over the phone by his Arkansas doctor, though he was given an insufficient initial dosage to have much effect.[9] The next day, Foster was found dead in Fort Marcy Park, a federal park in Virginia. He was found with a gun in his hand and gunshot residue on that hand. An autopsy determined that he was shot in the mouth and no other wounds were found on his body. A suicide note of sorts, in actuality a draft resignation letter, was found torn into 27 pieces in his briefcase. The letter contained a list of complaints, specifically including, "The WSJ editors lie without consequence"[18] and lamenting, "I was not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life in Washington. Here ruining people is considered sport."
His funeral Mass was held at the Cathedral of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Little Rock. Bill Clinton gave an emotional eulogy in which he recalled their boyhood times together and quoted a line from Leon Russell's "A Song for You": "I love you in a place that has no space and time."[19] Foster was buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery in his hometown of Hope. Foster was 48 years old and was survived by his wife and three children.
There have been three official investigations into Foster's death, all of which concluded that he committed suicide.[20]
The first was by the United States Park Police in 1993, in whose jurisdiction the original investigation fell. Due to Foster's position in the White House, the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation. Investigations by a coroner and Independent Counsel Robert B. Fiske, in a 58-page report released in 1994, also concluded that Foster had committed suicide.[14] Theories of a cover-up still persisted, some of which were promulgated by the Arkansas Project. After a three-year investigation, Whitewater independent counsel Ken Starr[21][22] released a report in 1997 also concluding that the death was a suicide.[14] In addition, two investigations by the U.S. Congress found that Foster committed suicide.
Foster's death, occurring just six months into the new administration, is thought by some to have ended the optimism and remaining innocence of the White House staff.[23] White House chief-of-staff and childhood friend Mack McLarty said that "It was a deep cut. It clearly had a tremendous impact."[23] Fellow White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum felt that if Foster had lived, he would have helped resist the calls to appoint Independent Counsels, and the many investigations lumped under the Whitewater umbrella that occupied the administration and Clinton for the rest of his presidency, might not have happened.[23] As it happened, how Hillary Clinton's chief of staff, Margaret Williams, in particular handled Foster's files and documents immediately after his death became an issue of much investigation itself.[14][24]
