0:04 This is to get organized on
Google Hangouts. This is
Alex Mandossian here. I am interviewing this woman
Kathi Burns and will be get coming back to her in just a moment wherever you are hanging out from please down below write down your full name and where you're hanging out from.
0:20 now my name is Alex Mandossian if we'd never cross paths I will be the chief engagement officer that
CEO of this hang out, only executive has been replaced by engagement. My goal is to engage you. So down below, wherever it is that you're watching this
I want you to comment and share your full name and where you're hanging out from. We do that not only to honor each other but that’s how to get organized starting with who you are and where you're from. That's going to give you and everyone else situational awareness of why this hangout is happening.
0:54 Now the topic is about organization and I have interviewed practically everyone you can think given
the bestselling author arena.
I've interviewed politician's,
I’ve interviewed movie stars, I've interviewed interviewers like
Larry King and
Anderson Cooper but this interview is a first for me. I'm interviewing Kathi Burns on an area where most people fail and are crippled and that is their area of life of getting organized.
1:19
Challenges are that and chances are that you’re organized in one area but you’re not in another or you may be unorganized and every area of your life. Now organization for me I watch is that it doesn't really have an impact on your sales and profits. I know extremely disorganized people who are billionaires and I know extremely organized people who are broke and don't have a nickel to rub. But what I do know is this, disorganization causes stress, disorganization causes overwhelm, even if you outsource that to other people. And so what we're going to do is talk about in four different hang outs, this is the first, on how to get organized.
And I brought none other than Kathi Burns who has written a book on it. And Kathi, welcome to this hangout, it’s our first one together. How do you feel and where you hanging out from?
2:09 I am very excited Alex, thank you so much for this interview series, we're going to have a lot of fun and the most important thing is that when you give people things that they can actually use and walk away to help make their lives a little bit better.
2:24 Well that's what we’re going to do. Not only to make it better and to reduce the stress but just to make it more fun.
Organization can be fun. Now, just to give you a context, I’m going to ask
Kathy what is organization, why is it so relevant to the viewer and how do people live into being organized, getting organized? I’m going to answer that question first. To me organization, being organized is about four things and I’m going to give them to you in your order of importance.
2:50
First is, purpose. to get organize you have to know your purpose because what are you organizing for? What are you living to? Your legacy has a lot to do with being organized.
3:01
Next, product priority.
Priority is knowing what's important and what’s urgent and doing what's important first. That means you’re disorganized by definition and other areas of your life that are unimportant. For me that's okay, we'll see what Kathi has to say.
3:17
Productivity. To me, productivity is maximum results in minimum time. You can't be productive unless you are organized.
3:24
And then finally, profits. I feel that getting organized will add more profits. I have actually shown in
ROI, a return on investment. I'm being organized because I know where to find stuff and profits for me are not just in money but in time. When I'm wasting less time trying to find stuff then I know that I am organized and I’m getting a better ROI. So those are the four things that organization or being organized means.
3:50
Purpose.
Number two, priority.
Number three, productivity. And number four, profits. That is the what of getting organized. Kathi? Up to you let me lob that question. You're the expert. What does organization mean to you?
