I premiäravsnittet av Sápmi Sessions möter popartisten Markus Krunegård jojkaren Inga Juuso. Båda är kända, men för varandra är de främlingar.
Inga Juuso föddes i efterkrigstidens Nordnorge och har fått sin musikaliska utbildning efter samisk tradition. Hennes säregna röst och kompromisslösa jojk har lett till att hon idag är den enda som har fast anställning som jojkare (i Troms län i Norge) och att hon befinner sig på en ständig världsturné. Om det blir tid över vid sidan av musiken arbetar Inga Juuso också som skådespelerska.
Markus Krunegård är född av svenskfinska föräldrar i det sena sjuttiotalets Norrköping. Han satsade tidigt på en popkarriär. Först i banden Laakso och Hets men slutligen som soloartist. Debutskivan Markusevangeliet från 2008 tog popsverige med storm och priserna haglade över sveriges nya popstjärna som själv beskriver sin musik som "Allmoge-Goth".

Sápmi
Sápmi (Northern Sami: [ˈsaʔmi]), in English commonly known as Lapland (/ˈlæplənd/), is the cultural region traditionally inhabited by the Sami people, traditionally known in English as Lapps. Sápmi is located in Northern Europe and includes the northern parts of Fennoscandia. The region stretches over four countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. On the north it is bounded by the Barents Sea, on the west by the Norwegian Sea and on the east by the White Sea.
Russians and Norwegians are the most numerous groups in the region; the Sami make up only a small minority of about 5% of the population in Sápmi. No political organization advocates secession, although several groups desire more territorial autonomy and/or more self-determination for the region's indigenous population.
Etymology
Sápmi (and corresponding terms in other Sami languages) refers to both the Sami land and the Sami people. In fact, the word "Sámi" is only the accusative-genitive form of the noun "Sápmi"—making the name's (Sámi olbmot) meaning "people of Sápmi." The origin of the word is speculated to be related to the Baltic word *žēmē that simply means "land". The same word is speculated to be the origin of "Suomi", the Finnish name for Finland.

Flight over Sápmi ("Lapland")
We pass over the traditional lands of the Sami, starting just east of Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, past the delta of the Northern Dvina, ending east of Kirkenes in the Finnmark coast of Norway. It is mid October, heavier snows are coming in.

By land it borders Troms county to the west, Finland (Lapland) to the south and Russia (Murmansk Oblast) to the east, and by water, the Norwegian Sea (Atlantic Ocean) to the northwest, and the Barents Sea (Arctic Ocean) to the north and northeast. The county was formerly known as Finmarkens amt or Vardøhus amt, and since 2002, has had two official names: Finnmark (Norwegian) and Finnmárku (Sami language). It is part of the Sápmi region, which spans four countries, as well as the Barents Region, and is the largest and least populated county of Norway.
Situated at the Northernmost part of continental Europe, where Norway swings eastward, Finnmark has always been an area where east meets west, in culture as well as in nature and geography. Vardø, the easternmost municipality in the country, is located farther east than St. Petersburg and Istanbul.
The Norse form of the name was Finnmörk. The first element is finn(ar), the Norse name for the Sámi people. The last element is mörk which means woodland or borderland. In Norse times the name was referring to any places where Sámi people were living (also parts of Southern Norway).
More recently, Finnmark is also the older name for Lapland in Sweden and is used by some inhabitants in this region. The title comes from Linnés expeditions in the northern Nordic regions during the 18th century, and his choice of name was influenced by the history of the region.
