American exceptionalism is the theory that the United States is qualitatively different from other nation states. In this view, U.S. exceptionalism stems from its emergence from a revolution, becoming what political scientist Seymour Martin Lipset called "the first new nation" and developing a uniquely American ideology, "Americanism", based on liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, republicanism, populism and laissez-faire. This ideology itself is often referred to as "American exceptionalism."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_exceptionalism
In the 19th century, Manifest Destiny was the widely held belief in the United States that American settlers were destined to expand throughout the continent. Historians have for the most part agreed that there are three basic themes to Manifest Destiny:
The special virtues of the American people and their institutions;
America's mission to redeem and remake the west in the image of agrarian America;
An irresistible destiny to accomplish this essential duty.[2]
Historian Frederick Merk says this concept was born out of "A sense of mission to redeem the Old World by high example...generated by the potentialities of a new earth for building a new heaven".[3]
Historians have emphasized that "Manifest Destiny" was a contested concept—Democrats endorsed the idea but many prominent Americans (such as Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and most Whigs) rejected it. Historian Daniel Walker Howe writes, "American imperialism did not represent an American consensus; it provoked bitter dissent within the national polity.... Whigs saw America's moral mission as one of democratic example rather than one of conquest."[4]
Manifest Destiny provided the rhetorical tone for the largest acquisition of U.S. territory. It was used by Democrats in the 1840s to justify the war with Mexico and it was also used to divide half of Oregon with Great Britain. But Manifest Destiny always limped along because of its internal limitations and the issue of slavery, says Merk. It never became a national priority. By 1843 John Quincy Adams, originally a major supporter, had changed his mind and repudiated Manifest Destiny because it meant the expansion of slavery in Texas.

Wilsonianism or Wilsonian are words used to describe a certain type of ideological perspectives on foreign policy. The term comes from the ideology of United States President Woodrow Wilson and his famous Fourteen Points that he believed would help create world peace if implemented.
Common principles that are often associated with "Wilsonianism" include:
Advocacy of the spread of democracy
Advocacy of the spread of capitalism
Opposition to isolationism and non-interventionism
Pro-imperialism, in favor of intervention to further national self-interest.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilsonian
Containment was a United States policy to prevent the spread of communism abroad. A component of the Cold War, this policy was a response to a series of moves by the Soviet Union to enlarge communist influence in Eastern Europe, China, Korea, Africa, and Vietnam. It represented a middle-ground position between appeasement and rollback.
The basis of the doctrine was articulated in a 1946 cable by U.S. diplomat George F. Kennan. As a description of U.S. foreign policy, the word originated in a report Kennan submitted to U.S. Defense Secretary James Forrestal in 1947, a report that was later used in a magazine article. It is a translation of the French cordon sanitaire, used to describe Western policy toward the Soviet Union in the 1920s.
The word containment is associated most strongly with the policies of U.S. President Harry Truman (1945–53), including the establishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a mutual defense pact. Although President Dwight Eisenhower (1953–61) toyed with the rival doctrine of rollback, he refused to intervene in the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. President Lyndon Johnson (1963–69) cited containment as a justification for his policies in Vietnam. President Richard Nixon (1969–74), working with advisor Henry Kissinger, followed a policy called détente, or relaxation of tensions. This involved expanded trade and cultural contacts, as well as the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks.
President Jimmy Carter (1977–81) at first emphasized human rights rather than anti-communism. He dropped this stance and returned to containment when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979. President Ronald Reagan (1981–89), denouncing the Soviet state as an "evil empire", escalated the Cold War and promoted rollback in Nicaragua and Afghanistan. Central programs begun under containment, including NATO and nuclear deterrence, remained in effect even after the end of the cold war.

In this video I describe some of the basic differences between an isolationist, noninterventionist and neo-cons/neo-libs.
What's the difference between isolationism, noninterventionism and a neo-con/lib?
It has become a common fallacy to conflate noninterventionism with isolationism. In fact it's so prevalent that many prominent politicians such as Obama, John Bohner and John McCain mischaracterize the noninterventionist beliefs of people like Ron Paul and Rand Paul so that they can purposefully portray them as isolationists. On common thread is that the people who conflate isolationism and noninterventionism are almost always neo-cons or neo-libs.
So what is the difference between a isolationist and a noninterventionist?
Well, the difference is subtle in some ways but profound in others. An isolationist wants to keep to themselves and by effect keep their country segregated not only politically but also physically and financially.
A noninterventionist doesn't seek segregation, they seek a policy of noninterferrence. A noninterventionist welcomes the sharing of goods, services, culture and ideas, but they don't seek to impose their beliefs and control onto others nor do they welcome the imposition of other's beliefs or control onto themselves.
Unlike what people like Obama, John Bohner and McCain would have us believe, noninterventionsist are not pacifists. In fact they believe deadly force is sometimes a necessity, but only in direct self-defense or the direct defense of others.
What is a neo-con or a neo-lib?
Well, a neo-con and a neo-lib are basically the same thing. The difference is one identifies themselves as a republican and the other as a democrat.
A neo-con/neo-lib are the opposite of a noninterventionist. A neo-con/neo-lib seeks to control others through policy, whether it be foreign policy of domestic policy.
They will use sanctions and the drafting of laws that isolate other countries, financially and physically, if they don't adjust their policies to match the policies of the neo-con/neo-lib. They will even use preemptive strikes to demoralize a people so that the people will pressure their own governing body to bend to the will of the neo-con/neo-lib.
In the simplest terms that I can come up with, an isolationist doesn't want anything to do with anyone else. A noninterventionist is ready and willing to defend themselves but in all cases where peace is possible, they prefer a “live and let live” policy. A neo-con/neo-lib believes their policy is so superior that they are willing and eager to impose their policies onto other with violence, financial blackmail and propaganda.

Journalists, policymakers, and pundits are once again debating whether Americans have turned away from the world. Officials from both sides of the aisle warn about an “isolationism dictated by the past.”
Contrary to this conventional view, new survey results from The Chicago Council on Global Affairs show most still want the U.S. to play an active role in the world.
As global troubles brew in Iraq, Syria and Ukraine, what kind of foreign policy do Americans want? What do they see as the most effective ways to achieve US foreign policy goals?
Join us for the release of The Chicago Council’s 40th anniversary survey of Americans on foreign policy issues.
Our expert panel will discuss the data, what it means for the future of US policy, and what policymakers should learn from the public.

People could still come & go as they please. Anybody could go serve in another countries military if they want. Just no more American Military, real plan to disband over a course of 10 years. Give the generals anything 100%, & plus more if can think of anything they forget or might need also. Give them whatever they say to get us out of the World all together.
Again, people can come & go as they please from & to other places & countries, but I'd like it if this place ran her borders, airports or anyplace needs security to be ran like the Israeli's do in Israel.
The Israeli's have adapted to a lot of Western/American type of things in their culture. It would be very easy to adapt to some of their's, too.

No one has tried harder to end old wars and avoid new ones than President Obama. Yet he has failed. The number of U.S. troops in Iraq is expected to grow to 3,000 this year, fighting intensifies in Afghanistan, and new wars have ignited in Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Libya, and central Africa. Why does this happen?
Professor Henry Nau is a recognized expert in U.S. foreign policy, having served on President Reagan’s National Security Council as the senior staff member responsible for international economic affairs. Among other duties, he was the White House sherpa for the Annual G-7 Economic Summits at Ottawa (1981), Versailles (1982), and Williamsburg (1983) and a special summit with developing countries at Cancun, Mexico (1982).
