NASA record bright sky event over southeastern United States
Based on current data NASA have said that the object was not a meteor or fireball.
Mystery fireball seen in southeastern US yesterday was SPACE JUNK, says Nasa
Flash seen as far west as Louisiana and as far north as West Virginia
Nasa believes the light was formed by the disused SL-6 Rocket Body
If this is the case, rocket would have disintegrated in the atmosphere
Nasa said the debris was travelling at around 14,500mph (23,300km/h)

In the early hours of yesterday morning, a blazing white light was seen streaking across the skies in several southeastern US states.
Eye witnesses described the brief, mysterious flash as a bright fireball with lights trailing behind it.
Now Nasa has come up with a possible explanation; the light was formed by space junk from SL-6 rocket launched more than a decade ago, it claims.

A recent study shows a strip of land that runs from Alabama to North Carolina and sits about 9 to 12 miles below the surface of the ocean is left over from Africa. It creates a magnetic variation called the Brunswick Magnetic Anomaly.
Around 250 million years ago, the North American and African continents used to be a connected landmass.
A recent study shows a strip of land that runs from Alabama to North Carolina and sits about 9 to 12 miles below the surface of the ocean is left over from Africa. It creates a magnetic variation called the Brunswick Magnetic Anomaly.
According to Robert Hatcher, a geologist from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville: "There was an attempt to rip away Florida and southern Georgia. So you have a failed rift there. We know there's a suture there between African crust and newer crust from the Appalachians. There are pieces of crust that started in Africa."
One theory about the Brunswick Magnetic Anomaly suggests it is an even older rift that it was formed by the original collision of two tectonic plates when North America split off from the super continent Pangea.
The magnetic properties of the rock are caused by high concentrations of minerals like magnetite, which give scientists clues about the movement of the outer most layer of our planet's skeletal structure.
Understanding the movement of the plates can be applied to oil, gas and gold exploration.

This visualization shows the Southeastern United States with population data over the land. Darker areas over land indicate higher population densities. Sea level scenarios are shown starting with 0 meters of sea level rise (current sea level) and proceeding through 9 meters of rise. Blue areas moving inland indicate where the coastline would be at various levels. We will likely see some sea level rise in our lifetimes, but the middle-to-higher levels in this visualization are unlikely in the next 100 years. This visualization is based on Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data. This data primarily measured canopy heights. So, this visualization is showing where water might reach the tops of the trees in various areas.

Visit my website at http://www.junglejoel.com - on Wednesday morning, August 28, 2013; at 3:27:20 AM Eastern Time, a meteor about 2 feet wide and weighing over 100 pounds, entered Earth's atmosphere above the Georgia/Tennessee border, just south of Cleveland. The meteor was moving northeast at an estimated 56,000 miles per hour, breaking apart northeast of Ocoee, at an altitude of 33 miles. Less than a second later, a second fragmentation occurred at an estimated height of 29 miles.
These videos are from NASA operated automated meteor tracking cameras - which lost track of the fireball fragments at an altitude of approximately 21 miles, when they were still moving at 19,400 miles-per-hour. Ground sensors recorded sonic booms from this event and there are indications on Doppler weather radar that small fragments of the meteor fell to the ground east of Cleveland, Tennessee.

"The southeastern United States is a hotspot for forestry activity. The cyclical harvest and planting of trees on lands dedicated to timber and pulp production result in some of the highest rates of forest change observed in the country. Over the past 40 years scientists have used USGS-NASA Landsat satellite data to detect changes in U.S. forest cover and monitor the impact of clearings on biodiversity and water resources. The color-coded visualization highlights vegetation change from 2006 to 2010 on land located south of the Ouachita Mountains, a mountain range that runs from central Arkansas to southeastern Oklahoma. Red areas represent forests cleared in 2010; orange areas represent clearings that took place around 2006. Land that had more than 25 percent tree cover prior to 2006 is colored green, while areas with less than 25 percent appear gray."

Regeneration
Forest regeneration is the act of renewing tree cover by establishing young trees naturally or artificially, generally promptly after the previous stand or forest has been removed. The method, species, and density are chosen to meet the goal of the landowner. Forest regeneration includes practices such as changes in tree plant density through human-assisted natural regeneration, enrichment planting, reduced grazing of forested savannas, and changes in tree provenances/genetics or tree species. "Human-assisted natural regeneration" means establishment of a forest age class from natural seeding or sprouting after harvesting through selection cutting, shelter (or seed-tree) harvest, soil preparation, or restricting the size of a clear-cut stand to secure natural regeneration from surrounding trees. "Enrichment planting" means increasing the planting density (i.e., the numbers of plants per hectare) in an already growing forest stand."
Common methods
Silvicultural regeneration methods combine both the harvest of the timber on the stand and re-establishment of the forest. The proper practice of sustainable forestry[2] should mitigate the potential negative impacts, but all harvest methods will have some impacts on the land and residual stand.[3] The practice of sustainable forestry limits the impacts such that the values of the forest are maintained in perpetuity. Following are some common methods...
Clearcutting - An even-aged regeneration method that can employ either natural or artificial regeneration. Clearcutting can be biologically appropriate with species that typically regenerate from stand replacing fires or other major disturbances, such as lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta). Alternatively, clearcutting can change the dominating species on a stand with the introduction of non-native and invasive species as was shown at the Blodgett Experimental Forest near Georgetown California. Additionally, clearcutting can prolong slash decomposition, expose soil to erosion, impact visual appeal of a landscape and remove essential wildlife habitat. It is particularly useful in regeneration of tree species such as Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) which is shade intolerant...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiversity
Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given species, ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. Biodiversity is in part a function of climate. In terrestrial habitats, tropical regions are typically rich whereas polar regions support fewer species.
Rapid environmental changes typically cause mass extinctions. One estimate is that less than 1% of the species that have existed on Earth are extant.
Since life began on Earth, five major mass extinctions and several minor events have led to large and sudden drops in biodiversity....
The period since the emergence of humans has displayed an ongoing biodiversity reduction and an accompanying loss of genetic diversity. Named the Holocene extinction, the reduction is caused primarily by human impacts, particularly habitat destruction. Conversely, biodiversity impacts human health in a number of ways, both positively and negatively...

Villosa fabalis is an endangered freshwater mussel. It is not the most exciting of mantle displays, but pretty cool! The mussel uses the little twitch to attract a small fish, it then sprays it in the face with tiny larval mussels which will attach to the fish's gills, get moved around, and change (eventually) into an adult mussel.

It is likely closely related to the Eastern pondshell (Ligumia nasuta) and has a similar display as you will find in these videos. This video was produced by the Aquatic Epidemiology and Conservation Laboratory at NC State University. Find out more about our research and about freshwater mussels at http://www.aeclab.org. This species is currently undescribed but occurs in the Upper Tar, Neuse, and Cape Fear River Basins in North Carolina. This video is of a 3-year-old individual that was propagated at NC State University and reached adulthood in a hatchery setting. The larvae of freshwater mussels require attachment to a host (usually a fish) to complete their lifecycle. This unique angling behavior is used to induce their host fish into a strike. But instead of a meal, the fish gets a mouthful of mussel larvae which attach to the fish's gills to complete their lifecycle.

Welcome to Houston, Texas, one of the largest cities in the United States.
Once an outpost in the Old West, Houston is now a down-to-earth metropolis, boasting a tremendous shipping and energy industry, as well as plenty of culture.
Kick off your Houston tour at Discovery Green, a 12-acre park tucked beneath the city’s skyscrapers. You’ll find public art and plenty of space to picnic or go for walks. Houstoners take pride in their various parks, museums, and open spaces, like the Houston Arboretum, where you can go birdwatching, learn about green living, and hike the trails to explore local wildlife.
Speaking of exploring, your Houston sightseeing should include a trip to the USS Texas., This battleship served in two World Wars and now stands guard as a museum on the Buffalo Bayou. Head over to the Gulf for a walk on the beach while you watch the sunset, then get ready to gear up for the evening with some delicious TexMex shared with the locals. After you lose yourself in a few rounds of line dancing to burn off all those fajitas, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t come to Houston earlier.

Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. If you only have time to visit only one city in the United States it ought to be NYC, USA:

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Have you been to New York? What are your favorite things about this city? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

It was the third-fastest-growing large city in the nation from 2000 to 2006. Austin is also the second largest state capital in the United States.

Take in the many splendors of the nation’s capital when you arrive at Washington, D.C.
Your Washington, D.C. tour should start at the National Mall, where you’ll find monuments, memorials, and government buildings instead of tons of shopping. If you’d like to get around town easily but don’t want to rent a car, the Capital Bikeshare program will let you cruise around the city without wasting gas or getting stuck in traffic.
Check out the Watergate Hotel and Kennedy Center when you stop at Foggy Bottom, then move on to Georgetown, the oldest district in D.C. It’s filled with 18th-century buildings and, of course, the university itself. After a stop at the National Cathedral, make your way to the Smithsonian National Zoo, the perfect stop for the young and the young at heart.
If you’re feeling the need to channel your inner 007, go to the International Spy Museum, and learn about the covert operations and intelligence agencies that have shaped the world we live in. Of course, you can’t enjoy any Washington, D.C., tourism without admiring the White House, so make sure that’s on your list too.
Visit our Washington, D.C., travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation!

New York is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.
The most important places to visit in New York are: Brooklyn Bridge (built in 1883, it is one of the oldest suspension bridges in America and continues to inspire the people of New York City), Wall Street (the bull here makes everyone happy. See where billions are won or lost in seconds), Central Park (one of the world's greatest urban parks. Get involved in an outdoor activity or watch New Yorkers go about their exercise routines), Empire State Building (an American icon, which was built remarkably during the Great Depression. Ride to the top for unmatched city views), Times Square (best experienced at night. First time visitors are simply in awe amidst the bright neon lights), Statue of Liberty (this is one landmark you must visit. The ultimate symbol of New York City).
If you want to save time and money, the most important New York travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Shopping in Seattle, Washington State, United States
Go shopping in Seattle and you can track high-street trends, hunt for local labels, pick up original Northwest crafts, buy ocean-fresh goodies, or gear up for the outdoors.
Key areas:
The downtown shopping core is between First Avenue and Sixth Avenue and Olive Way and University Street.
Nordstrom first opened in Seattle in 1901 and has its flagship store at 500 Pine Street. There are independent gems here too, such as Paper Hammer, 1400 Second Avenue, which sells beautiful handmade notebooks and letterpress goods made in its studio in Tieton, Washington.
Near Pioneer Square, E Smith Mercantile, 208 First Avenue South, has something of a pioneer spirit to it, stocking an eclectic mix of American-made denim, ceramic tinware, beef jerky and homeopathic hangover cures, with a tiny cocktail bar to boot.
Belltown, north along First Avenue from the city centre, has unique boutiques with locally designed clothing, imported shoes, antiques and used clothing. Sell your Sole, 2121 First Avenue, is a great spot to bag stylish second hand designer gear. In hip Ballard, re-souL, 5319 Ballard Avenue Southwest, keeps Seattleites' feet well dressed.
Markets:
Pike Place Market, First Avenue and Pike Street, opened in 1907 and is crammed with fresh produce, baked goods, speciality foods and a craft market representing over 200 artisans.
Shopping centres:
In Downtown, Pacific Place, Sixth Avenue and Pine Street, has over 50 shops plus restaurants and a cinema. University Village, off 25th Avenue Northeast, is an open-air shopping centre with upscale names including Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and Eddie Bauer.
Opening hours:
Shopping hours are typically 0930-1800, including Sundays, with many larger downtown stores remaining open until 2100.
Souvenirs:
The Pacific Northwest is an internationally renowned hub for glassblowing. At Glasshouse Studio (331 Occidental Avenue South), you can watch demonstrations and buy intricately designed glass art.
Seattle is home to a bounty of chocolatiers. There's a fine selection of delectable local confectionary at Chocolate Box (106 Pine Street).
Tax information:
Seattle sales tax is 9.5%. Only residents of a handful of US states and Canadian provinces where sales tax is less than 3% are entitled to a refund.

✱ 245 Hotels in Las Vegas - Lowest Price Guarantee ► http://goo.gl/MJvh3s
Travel video about destination Las Vegas in the United States of America.
A fascinating glimpse into the non-stop entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, that offers a great deal more than the gambling casinos for which it's famous.
There's the Luxor Hotel that was built at a cost of 400 million dollars and contains 2,526 rooms and an atrium that can accommodate nine jumbo jets. This is in stark contrast to the Excalibur Hotel that evokes King Arthur and his Round Table.
Even the New York skyline is on full view and features Greenwich Village, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty and a screeching roller-coaster ride above the residential quarters of New York!
The exclusive Romanesque Caesar's Palace contains some of the finest and most elegant shops in the United States that epitomize the height of luxury.
The Mirage Hotel boasts an erupting volcano and cascading waterfalls.
The Venetian is the world's largest hotel with more than 6,600 spacious suites and a gondolier is on hand to transport visitors through a watery shopping mall as he graces them with an Italian love song.
Las Vegas, there's a lot more to it than this, including Treasure Island and regular battles between pirates and the English fleet. This city is like a huge multi-billion dollar film set where illusion and entertainment know no bounds.
