We went to Saas Fee, in Switzerland, during September to see what you can do during the off season. We tried skiing, walking, canyon riding and much more.
Saas Fee has an extensive glacier where you can ski most of the year. There are many national team ski racers training on the snow which was in good shape considering it was the end of summer.
In the morning you can ski and then during the afternoon try a variety of other outdoor sports.
Saas-Fee is the main village in the Saastal, or the Saas Valley, and is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Switzerland
Switzerland (/ˈswɪtsərlənd/), officially the Swiss Confederation (Latin: Confoederatio Helvetica, hence its abbreviation CH), is a country in Europe. While still named the "Swiss Confederation" for historical reasons, modern Switzerland is a federal directorial republic consisting of 26 cantons, with Bern as the seat of the federal authorities, called Bundesstadt ("federal city"). The country is situated in Western and Central Europe, and is bordered by Italy to the south, France to the west, Germany to the north, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east. Switzerland is a landlocked country geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura, spanning an area of 41,285 km2 (15,940 sq mi). While the Alps occupy the greater part of the territory, the Swiss population of approximately 8 million people is concentrated mostly on the Plateau, where the largest cities are to be found: among them are the two global and economic centres, Zürich and Geneva.
The establishment of the Swiss Confederation is traditionally dated to 1 August 1291, which is celebrated annually as the Swiss National Day. The country has a long history of armed neutrality—it has not been in a state of war internationally since 1815—and did not join the United Nations until 2002. Nevertheless, it pursues an active foreign policy and is frequently involved in peace-building processes around the world. In addition to being the birthplace of the Red Cross, Switzerland is home to numerous international organizations, including the second largest UN office. On the European level, it is a founding member of the European Free Trade Association, but notably it is not part of the European Union, nor the European Economic Area. However the country does participate in the Schengen Area and the EU's single market through a number of bilateral treaties.

The South of Switzerland speaks Italian. But the good news for you as a tourist is almost everybody speaks English too.
2. Hours in Switzerland
- Switzerland is an early country
- Cafes open early
- Stores close early
- Some cities know a thing called - "evening shopping" literally translated. Shops are open until 21:00 (9 PM) on one evening per week - in Zürich, this happens on Thursday.
- And nearly everything is closed on Sunday (except the trains and shops in train stations)
3. Transportation in Switzerland
- Really good public transit
- Always on time
- Swiss Pass
- Download the SBB App
- Second Class is pretty good
4. Money in Switzerland
- They don’t use the EUR, they use the Swiss Franc (CHF) but you can exchange Euro at any bank, airport, and most railway stations. ATMs are known as “Bancomats”
5. Switzerland is Expensive
- Yes, what you’ve heard about Switzerland being expensive is right. It is.
- Pizza $30
- Mcdonalds $15
- Minimum wage of $25 an hour
6. Swiss Food
- Eat the chocolate and cheese
- Drink the milk
- All things Dairy
- lunch specials 10-19 CHF.
- Ethnic Restaurants like Chinese, Middle Eastern, Indian, or Thai for the best deals (and closer to 10 CHF).
- Don’t be late for a dinner reservation -- after 15 minutes you should forget you even had it
7. Switzerland is Small
- Population of 8 Million
- 1/10 the size of California
- But many mountains so travel is slow
- Geneva to Zurich Driving is 3 hours
8. Weather
- Quite varied because of the Alps
- In the West it’s windy and wet because of the Atlantic Ocean
- South is significantly warmer
- Summer can be up to 35C or 95F -- zero degrees depends on elevation, between 2000 Meters and 4000 Meters.
- Each Mountain has it’s own website -- check the mountain website to decide whether to go or not
- High elevation so wear sunscreen
9. Water
- Skip the bottled water -- drink the tap water
- Fountains on almost every corner
10. Recycling

In the fall of 2015, while preparing for a trip that would take me literally around the world, I couldn't shake the desire to share the experience of travel, which for me is a very personal one. This film is the culmination of that desire. I carried my camera for 5 months through 15 countries. The endless metropolis of Tokyo, tiny islands of The Philippines, busy streets of India, the Swiss Alps and the Scottish Highlands. They're all right here, for you, in 6 minutes.

On Thursdays and Sundays, locals and visitors head to the Mindil Beach Markets to shop, dance and enjoy foods from all over the world. At sunset, head down to the beach as the sun dips into the Arafura Sea, then catch a movie under the stars at the Deck Chair Cinema.
Learn about the city’s military history, at the Defense of Darwin Experience and the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre. At the Darwin Museum and Art Gallery, discover the region’s local cultures and unique natural environment.
To experience the Northern Territory’s most fearsome residents, pay a visit to Crocodylus Park and Crocosaurus Cove, home to some of the largest captive saltwater crocodiles on the planet.
There are over 20 national parks in the Darwin region, including popular Litchfield National Park. Just an hour and a half from Darwin, Litchfield is set around a sandstone plateau, crisscrossed by deep, narrow gorges filled with monsoon forests, waterfalls and croc-free swimming holes.

The park is open year-round, but most visitors come from May to October, when most of the park’s roads are open. You’ll need to set aside a few days to fully explore Kakadu, and once there, the best way to experience the park is by off-road vehicle and on foot. The park has around 25 marked trails, from short walks to multi day hikes.
Two of the most popular walks include Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls. Here, at the end of forested gorges, are the sorts of places many dream about, but few will ever see. Another great place to cool off is Gunlom Falls, which offers crystal-clear swimming holes and views all the way to far-off Arnhem Land.
Kakadu is dotted with thousands of art sites, with some ancient galleries featuring paintings dating back over 20,000 years. The galleries at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr are two of the most visited and feature incredibly well-preserved paintings depicting traditional legends and day-to-day life.

Argentina, the last country in my 6 months long trip to South America, we have finally come to an end. Argentina is one of the biggest country in South America and it would take more than a month to see them all. This is what a month of traveling looks like in Argentina. Buenos Aires was a great vibrant city! Bariloche is definitely the Switzerland of Argentina! Patagonia? Love everything about it, especially El Chalten and seeing Fitz Roy has always been my life goals. Ushuaia is cold but beautiful. To think that I was so near to Antarctica, and yet only 5000 USD away from going there. Maybe next time!
Last but not least Iguazu Falls. There's waterfalls and then there's Iguazu Falls. Damn, this place blows my mind. I thought I have seen enough waterfalls in my life time but Iguazu was so different, so epic that I would say that it is one of the best one in the world.
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I was making them!
P.S. This is my last travel video that I'll be shooting with my trusted Sony RX100 M3. It is almost at the end of its life cycle but fear not, I have a new replacement! The Sony a6500! Stay tuned for my next video, this time I'll take you to the Philippines!

Saas Fee is a Great All Year Round Swiss Resort
We went to Saas Fee, in Switzerland, during September to see what you can do during the off season. We tried skiing, walking, canyon riding and much more. Saas Fee has an extensive glacier where you can ski most of the year. There are many national team ski racers training on the snow which was in good shape considering it was the end of summer. In the morning you can ski and then during the afternoon try a variety of other outdoor sports.

Saas Fee has an extensive glacier where you can ski most of the year. There are many national team ski racers training on the snow which was in good shape considering it was the end of summer.
In the morning you can ski and then during the afternoon try a variety of other outdoor sports.

Swiss alpinist and adidas Outdoor athlete Andreas Steindl (26) has accomplished what most people deem impossible: he ran 30.66 kilometres from Zermatt to Saas Fee crossing five 4000m peaks, including the Dom, the highest mountain lying entirely in Switzerland, in a time that awes even the most experienced mountain guides. For the 4,015 metres vertical ascent across pathless terrain, glaciers and exposed ridges, Steindl needed only 7 hours, 45 minutes and 44 seconds.
