A few years ago, we asked what was urban comedy like before HBO premiered Russell Simmon's Def Comedy Jam? If you were a comedy lover, at that time, we were given one comedian at a time. Eddie Murphy was hot, and a young comedian by the name of Chris Rock had just starred in Beverly Hills Cop 2, and he was looking like the heir to the throne.
Well, we wanted to know the answer to this question so we did something about it.
As stated, a couple of years ago we launched our brand new web series titled Life After Def, which chronicles the behind the scene lives of comedians who eventually performed of Def Comedy Jam during it's rise to fame. If you were a comedian and you got a chance to perform on the show, your life changed; some for the better and some for the worse. In this series, we talk to many comedians who gave us their opinion on their lives after Def Comedy Jam, with the new series titled Life After Def.
In this new first episode we talk with comedian Joe Torry, (who was the second season's host after the incredible performance by Martin Lawrence), who got a chance to tour on the Def Comedy Jam Comedy Tour and who starred in many movies from Fled, Poetic Justice, Tales From The Hood, to House Party 3.

Torry is an area within the city of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
Setting and historical development
Torry, lying on the south bank of the River Dee, was once a Royal Burgh in its own right, having been erected a burgh of barony in 1495. It was incorporated into Aberdeen in 1891, after the construction of the Victoria Bridge, itself made possible by the 1871 channelling of the River Dee which had previously followed an unstable course to the sea. The channelling also enabled further expansion of the harbour.
Torry is connected to the north bank of the Dee and the centre of Aberdeen by three bridges. Leading most directly to the centre of Torry, the Victoria Bridge was completed in 1887, following a ferry disaster in 1876 which claimed the lives of 32 people returning from a visit to the Bay of Nigg. The bridge also has facilities for carrying water and gas services across the river. To the west of the Victoria Bridge lie the Queen Elizabeth Bridge of 1983, and the narrow Wellington Suspension Bridge. The suspension bridge was designed by Captain Samuel Brown and opened in 1831, replacing the Craiglug ferry. Refurbished in 1930, the Category A listed building was closed to vehicular traffic in 1984 and to pedestrians in March 2002. Aberdeen City Council engineers have strengthened the bridge, and have reopened it as a public footbridge.

Joe Torry
Joe Torry (born Joseph Pierre Torry; September 28, 1965) is an American actor and comedian.
Biography
Torry was born and raised along with his brother, actor and comedian Guy Torry, in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he earned a BA in mass communications/broadcast journalism. While attending school, Torry pledged Omega Psi Phi fraternity. In 2001, Lincoln honored him with both The President's Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2002 an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters. He was also inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001. Torry has older son Kameron Torry from a previous relationship. He married Chrystal Benson and they have one son together : Joseph II. They currently reside in Los Angeles.
Career
Torry began his acting career around the age of 23. He brought his own style of humor to such roles in films such as, Strictly Business and House Party . He also made guest appearances on television shows including ER, NYPD Blue, Girlfriends, NCIS, The Conan O'Brien Show, Jon Stewart, The Bryon Allen Show and became a crowd favorite on Def Comedy Jam. Appearing on earlier shows such as Roc and Amen jump started his television roles. It wasn't until 1992 when Torry would receive his big break, he was given the job of hosting Def Comedy Jam after host Martin Lawrence left the show, further enlarging his exposure in the entertainment industry. This also brought Torry larger roles in newer movies. He starred in Motives 1 & 2, Lock Down, Hair Show, Mannsfield 12, Poetic Justice, Sprung, and Tales from the Hood among others. Torry has also appeared in various commercials for large corporations such as Anheuser Busch, Pepsi, and Nike.

Vacationing in San Diego? You must visit some of the free places that locals visit regularly. One of my favorites is Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, home of the rarest pine in the United States. Here, you walk 300 feet above the Pacific Ocean shore, see passing whales in season, wildlife, plants and humanity. Choose to travel the beach trail to the shorline or stroll along the unusual landscape of the clifffs.
Torrey Pines has been known as an unusual place for a long time. Spanish sailors in the 1500's saw trees growing on a high bluff and marked it on their charts as Punta de los Arboles or Wooded Point - a good reference point on a dry coast where trees are common only along streams or in the mountains many miles inland. For Torrey Meister, Winning the 2013 O’Neill Coldwater Classic, not only provided him with an O’Neill sponsorship and $50k to travel the world to surf the WQS. He also received an underlying prize provided by Mulcoy Travel and the Las Palmeras Surf Camp. This prize was a free stay and guided tour to Salina Cruz to train in-between contests, test O’Neill product and film Chapter 5 of the 2014 Torrey Meister video series.
With the local knowledge of the Las Palmeras Surf Camp owner David Ramirez and fellow pro surfer/surf guide, Josh Mulcoy, both Torrey Meister and O’Neill teammate Colt Ward, scored amazing surf for 5 days straight. In this time both Torrey and Colt surfed a minimum of 8 hours a day, testing O’Neill sun protective products, boardshorts and dialing in their equipment for upcoming contests. Torrey Meister | Chapter 5 | Las Palmeras will give you a taste of how good a surf trip can be.
The Torrey Meister series has documented the saga of his post O’Neill Coldwater Classic victory in 2013. So far it has shown both the triumph and defeat of chasing the after the dream of qualifying for the World Championship Tour (WCT). Torrey Pines located in San Diego, California is one of natures real treasures. Made famous by the Torrey Pines golf open it was a source of inspiration for the late Dr Seuss. The view from the top of the cliffs overlooking the Ocean will take your breath away. For an unreal experience try hiking this trail at sunset during a full moon, you won't regret it. Perfect for taking a romantic date, hanging out or the dreaded in laws when they come to visit from out of town.
The only downside to hiking here is paying for parking. Since the whole area is a state park be prepared to pay $12 to park on weekends, $10 on weekdays. Here is an excellent pro tip, get here early and park at the beach. If you're super lucky or it is possible to park here for free. Coming early is your best bet but even if you show up at 8 am on the weekend it's no guarantee because it is still packed due to surfers.
