Thunderbird 2 & 4 SUPERSIZE AWESOME NEW Thunderbirds Are Go Toys
Thunderbirds Are Go! Here is the amazing
Thunderbird 2 and
Thunderbird 4 Supersize Soundtech
Vivid toys. I compare the new
Thunderbird craft to the classic
Thunderbirds toys, the changes will surprise you. These Thunderbirds toys do not disappoint, they are large, well detailed and loaded with feature to recreate Thunderbird rescue missions.
Once you spend an hour putting on a huge decal sheet Thunderbird 2 & 4 look amazing. There are minifigures of
Virgil Tracy and
Gordon Tracy that don't really impress. Because I'm a huge Thunderbirds fan and keen collector of Thunderbirds toys I can really examine what's going on. The best aspect to these new Thunderbird craft is they are not too different to the classic 1960's Thunderbirds
TV show. I feel this is by far the best aspect of these toys, they have enough of the good looks from the classic show. One big
difference is the sound interactivity between Thunderbird 2 & 4, it did take time to get this feature chatting all the mission statements and the way the interactivity is triggered is just a case of button sequences from the rear of Thunderbird 2's pod. Thunderbird 4 looks amazing in this new series, and the toy has features that were never seen in the classic toy's.
Thunderbirds Are Go is a
British and
New Zealand science-fiction television series made by
ITV Studios and
Pukeko Pictures, produced using a combination of
CGI and miniatures made by
Weta Workshop. It is an
adaptation of the original 1960's Thunderbirds series which was created by
Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. The series premiered in the UK on the 4
April 2015. Both the characters and Thunderbirds from the original series were given revamped looks to them, including
Tracy Island, to fit in with more modern times since the
1960s, while retaining notable aspects from the original series for the adaptation. The premiere revealed that, along with the original five craft, a new Thunderbird craft was also made;
Thunderbird 'Shadow' (aka
Thunderbird 'S') to be piloted by Kayo, the head of the organisation's security. The first series currently will have 26 episodes, each about twenty minutes in length. On
18 December 2014, it was announced that the show will have a second series that would air "over 2016 and 2017"
It's still early days for the new Thunderbirds Are Go series, there are some aspects of it which grind with me.
Seeing Thunderbird 3 doing rogue satellite garbage runs (space junk duty) in
Space Race is not what Thunderbird 3 or
International Rescue is about. Do you ever see Firemen collecting your garbage? Sadly there is a strong environmental / educational undertone in the series that's drifting it too far away from what makes Thunderbirds amazing. The lack of
Jeff Tracy at the start of the series is also disappointing,
I believe it's a
HUGE mistake (I have heard he is being written back into the series, but the damage is done).
Grandma Tracy is possibly the absolute worst element in the new series, why she is given so much screen time is beyond me, she's very annoying and the joke about her bad cooking is overdone. Not having
Kyrano on the Tracy Island is another big disappointment, we can't have the
Hood's menacing glowing eyes control over his half brother, sure that stuff was spooky and scary but it's essential to have and a very important sub plot to Thunderbirds.
Sure I can see lots of crossovers in stories and some sequences but the flaws in the story telling and lack of action, jeopardy, Tracy Island mystery and character chemistry is very disappointing. As for the new
Tin Tin (
Kayo Kyrano) and her craft
Thunderbird Shadow. I am yet to see them really do anything apart from get in the way of the real stars of the show. One really big change I noticed was the far greater use of Thunderbird 3 and
Thunderbird 5. I'm still deciding if this is hindering the core value of Thunderbirds. The episode
EOS where Thunderbird 5 was doing a
HAL from
2001 ASO was very different. The episode that featured Fireflash and direct links to the original series
Trapped In The Sky was also a
sign of how the story telling is the weakest link. The overall production look, design of the craft and model work is the best you will see. Even the CGI looks very impressive. Both my children
LOVE this new Thunderbirds, so maybe it's perfect for today's children.
