"Uyoku dantai" are Japanese nationalist right-wing groups of which there are over 1,000 in Japan with about 100,000 members in total. Well known for their black propaganda vans, they are often seen driving around staging protests with their loudspeakers outside the Chinese, Korean, and Russian embassies demanding ownership of the Senkaku and Kuril Islands to name a few. We caught up with Masaya Kudo, a Right-Wing activist and leader of his own group, "Nihon-no-Kai" as he explained his philosophies and concerns regarding the Right-Wing movement today and their ties to the Yakuza.

Film Yakuza Apocalypse 2015 yang menceritakan tentang Akira (Hayato Ichihara) yang mengidolakan seorang Genyo Kamiura, dan Genyo merupakan kelompok Yakuza yang paling kuat.
Sehingga Genyo Kamiura sudah sering menjadi target operasi pembunuhan, namun ia tidak pernah terbunuh oleh para musuhnya.
Sementara itu ia mendapatkan julukan sebagai “manusia yang tak terkalahkan” oleh para musuhnya. Karena Genyo Kamiura telah memasuki dunia pada gangster yakuza.
Akhirnya teman yakuzanya memperlakukannya seperti orang idiot, Akira juga tidak mendapatkan tato dikarenakan ia mempunyai kulit yang sensitif.

Kehidupan yakuza sangat rahasia dan misterius
Yakuza adalah sebuah kelompok kriminal yang terorganisir di Jepang. Mereka bekerja seperti mafia-mafia di negara barat, atau seperti preman di Indonesia. Namun, Yakuza adalah sebuah organisasi profesional yang memiliki kantor dan populer di seluruh lapisan masyarakat.
Kehidupan yakuza sangat rahasia dan misterius. Tidak ada yang tahu kapan dan dimana mereka akan muncul. Geng ini juga dikenal sebagai geng yang keras dan sadis. Mereka tidak segan-segan membunuh orang yang mencoba melawan mereka. Berikut kami rangkum lima fakta menarik tentang Yakuza.

Mereka menggunakan helikopter dan boat organisasi mereka untuk mengirimkan bantuan ke daerah bencana. Banyak yang memuji aksi ini namun banyak juga yang menganggapnya sebagai ajang “cari muka” belaka.
3. Yubitsume, Hukuman Potong Jari Bagi yang Membangkang
Yakuza memang dikenal sebagai sebuah organisasi yang disiplin dan kejam. Mereka wajib mematuhi peraturan atasan mereka tanpa banyak protes. Siapa yang memprotes kebijakan pemimpin, akan mendapat ganjaran yang tidak main-main.
Yubitsume adalah tindakan memutilasi jari seorang yakuza, jika dia membangkang atau tidak melaksanakan tugas dengan baik. Maka, tidak heran bahwa banyak anggota yakuza yang kehilangan beberapa jarinya. Bahkan, ada yang kehilangan kesepuluh jarinya sekaligus.
4. Tato
Tato bisa dibilang adalah identitas yang paling gampang dikenali dari Yakuza. Tato mereka memiliki corak dan motif khusus, sesuai dengan geng asal mereka. Setiap kepala geng Yakuza memiliki peraturan khusus untuk tato anggotanya.
Semakin banyak tato seorang yakuza, itu menandakan bahwa dirinya semakin berpengaruh dalam geng tersebut. Banyaknya tato juga menunjukan bahwa dia adalah orang kepercayaan. Tato ini pulalah yang membuat orang pemerintah Jepang tidak menerima pegawai negeri dengan tato, karena tato identik dengan yakuza.
5. Punya Hubungan Khusus dengan Pemerintahan Jepang
Pada tahun 2012, Keishu Tanaka, perdana menteri Jepang diminta untuk mundur dari jabatannya karena dia memiliki hubungan dengan Yakuza. Banyak politisi Jepang yang ternyata harus berhubungan dengan Yakuza karena membutuhkan dana talangan untuk karir politik mereka.
Pada pemilihan umum di Jepang, para yakuza juga diam-diam menyebarkan anggotanya di tempat pemilihan. Mereka akan meastikan bahwa kandidat yang mereka dukung akan menang. Hal tersebut membuat banyak politisi berlomba-lomba untuk meminta campur tangan yakuza dalam pemilihan. Jadi, bisa dikatakan bahwa Yakuza juga bagian dari pemerintahan Jepang.
Meski mereka adalah para pelaku kriminalias, namun yakuza tampaknya sudah menjadi bagian dari tatanan masyarakat Jepang. Mereka memegang peranan serius di bidang politik, juga ekonomi. Selain itu, keingintahuan publik tentang kehidupan Yakuza yang unik juga menjadikan yakuza semakin populer. Belakangan ini, Yakuza malah menerbitkan majalah mereka sendiri, yang mengupas sisi kehidupan mereka.
Jaringan yakuza juga sangat kuat dan luas. Mereka dikabarkan memiliki jaringan hingga ke Amerika dan Eropa. Sebab itu, kepolisian Amerika Serikat pernah beberapa kali menjadikan anggota yakuza sebagai DPO.

This was filmed during the Sanja Matsuri (Shinto festival), in Asakusa, Tokyo, on May 2014.
This three-day event is pretty epic and attracts millions of people to the area. I had no idea this was happening, I just wanted to do some last minute shopping in Asakusa that day.
Just caught a glimpse of the festival on the final day. This video is NOT representative of the Sanja Matsuri, or of Japan, but I found this episode rare enough (for me) to film it.
Shown here are Yakuza gang members celebrating the end of the festival with a bottoms-up party. Intimidation is key in conducting Yakuza business. By openly exposing themselves this way, they are 'marking territory', taunting the police and braving a recent law stating that a public reunion of more than three members is illegal...
I had bumped into that group earlier and did some discreet filming as I noticed the ink sticking out of their sleeves.
Ran into them again later and figured it was kind of ok to film, although maybe not by a gaijin, as the Yakuza are also famous for being 'slightly' xenophobic...

Yakuza (ヤクザ or やくざ ?), also known as gokudō (極道?), are members of traditional organized crime syndicates in Japan. The Japanese police, and media by request of the police, call them bōryokudan (暴力団), literally "violence group", while the yakuza call themselves "ninkyō dantai" (任侠団体 or 仁侠団体), "chivalrous organizations". The yakuza are notorious for their strict codes of conduct and very organized nature. They are very prevalent in the Japanese media and operate internationally with an estimated 80,900 members in 2009, the last year for which an estimate is available.
Despite uncertainty about the single origin of yakuza organizations, most modern yakuza derive from two classifications which emerged in the mid-Edo Period (1603–1868): tekiya, those who primarily peddled illicit, stolen or shoddy goods; and bakuto, those who were involved in or participated in gambling.
Tekiya (peddlers) were considered one of the lowest social groups in Edo. As they began to form organizations of their own, they took over some administrative duties relating to commerce, such as stall allocation and protection of their commercial activities. During Shinto festivals, these peddlers opened stalls and some members were hired to act as security. Each peddler paid rent in exchange for a stall assignment and protection during the fair.

This was filmed during the Sanja Matsuri (Shinto festival), in Asakusa, Tokyo, on May 2014. This three-day event is pretty epic and attracts millions of people to the area. I had no idea this was happening, I just wanted to do some last minute shopping in Asakusa that day. Just caught a glimpse of the festival on the final day. This video is NOT representative of the Sanja Matsuri, or of Japan, but I found this episode rare enough (for me) to film it. Shown here are Yakuza gang members celebrating the end of the festival with a bottoms-up party. Intimidation is key in conducting Yakuza business. By openly exposing themselves this way, they are 'marking territory', taunting the police and braving a recent law stating that a public reunion of more than three members is illegal... I had bumped into that group earlier and did some discreet filming as I noticed the ink sticking out of their sleeves. Ran into them again later and figured it was kind of ok to film, although maybe not by a gaijin, as the Yakuza are also famous for being 'slightly' xenophobic... There it is. This three-day event is pretty epic and attracts millions of people to the area. I had no idea this was happening, I just wanted to do some last minute shopping in Asakusa that day.
Just caught a glimpse of the festival on the final day. This video is NOT representative of the Sanja Matsuri, or of Japan, but I found this episode rare enough (for me) to film it.
Shown here are Yakuza gang members celebrating the end of the festival with a bottoms-up party. Intimidation is key in conducting Yakuza business. By openly exposing themselves this way, they are 'marking territory', taunting the police and braving a recent law stating that a public reunion of more than three members is illegal...
I had bumped into that group earlier and did some discreet filming as I noticed the ink sticking out of their sleeves.
Ran into them again later and figured it was kind of ok to film, although maybe not by a gaijin, as the Yakuza are also famous for being 'slightly' xenophobic...

In Tokyo bay, police divers haul heavily tattooed body parts out of the water - "heads, lower body parts and two left ankles have been found". This is what happens to those who cross the Yakuza. Yet it's not illegal to be a member and police have no powers to wiretap, plea bargain or offer witness protection. "In the old days they protected the weak from the strong. Today Yakuza live as pimps. They use cocaine, threaten people, and extort money", says Gijin Kobayashi. After a lifetime with the Yakuza, years of cocaine-fuelled violence and a lengthy stretch in jail, Gijin has sought absolution as a Buddhist monk. He was lucky to escape the Yakuza's notorious vengeance. Celebrities, journalists and politicians have all felt the Yakuza's wrath. And they go to any lengths to maintain their power in Japan's society. "There are no rules when it comes to the Yakuza doing business", says former Yakuza gangster and convicted killer, Shinji Ishihara, "they'll do anything to make money". Japan's organised crime chief has acknowledged the Yakuza's stake in child pornography. Yet this sordid mob is still going strong, tainting Japan's national image.
