Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. In 2008 the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The holiday is sometimes called Día de los Muertos in Anglophone countries, a back-translation of its original name, Día de Muertos. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico where the day is a public holiday. Prior to Spanish colonization in the 16th century, the celebration took place at the beginning of summer. Gradually it was associated with October 31, November 1 and November 2 to coincide with the Western Christian triduum of Allhallowtide: All Saints' Eve, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Visitors also leave possessions of the deceased at the graves.

Hollywood Undead is an American rap rock band from Los Angeles, California, United States. They released their debut album, Swan Songs, on September 2, 2008, and their live CD/DVD Desperate Measures, on November 10, 2009. Their second studio album, American Tragedy, was released April 5, 2011. All of the band members use pseudonyms and wear their own unique mask, most of which are based on the common hockey goaltender design. The band members currently consist of Charlie Scene, Da Kurlzz, Danny, Funny Man, J-Dog, and Johnny 3 Tears. The band has sold over two million records in the United States alone, and about three million records worldwide. Their third studio album, titled Notes from the Underground, was released on January 8, 2013.
Their fourth studio album, Day of the Dead, was released on March 31, 2015. Five new singles off of the album, "Usual Suspects", "Gravity", "How We Roll", "Live Forever", and "Disease".
The band originated on June 3, 2005 as The Kids from a song titled "Hollywood" (Later released as "The Kids") that Jorel Decker (J-Dog), Aron Erlichman (Deuce), and Jeff Phillips (Shady Jeff) posted on the band's MySpace profile to positive reviews, leading them to form the group Hollywood Undead with their friends George "Johnny 3 Tears" Ragan, Jordon "Charlie Scene" Terrell, Dylan "Funny Man" Alvarez, and Matthew "Da Kurlzz" Busek. In an interview with Shave magazine, J-Dog explained that when forming the band "Whoever was in the room at the time and played an instrument was in the band." Phillips later left the group because of conflict with Erlichman.
In everyday speech, a phrase may be any group of words, often carrying a special idiomatic meaning; in this sense it is roughly synonymous with expression. In linguistic analysis, a phrase is a group of words (or possibly a single word) that functions as a constituent in the syntax of a sentence—a single unit within a grammatical hierarchy. A phrase appears within a clause, although it is also possible for a phrase to be a clause or to contain a clause within it.
There is a difference between the common use of the term phrase and its technical use in linguistics. In common usage, a phrase is usually a group of words with some special idiomatic meaning or other significance, such as "all rights reserved", "economical with the truth", "kick the bucket", and the like. It may be a euphemism, a saying or proverb, a fixed expression, a figure of speech, etc.
In grammatical analysis, particularly in theories of syntax, a phrase is any group of words, or sometimes a single word, which plays a particular role within the grammatical structure of a sentence. It does not have to have any special meaning or significance, or even exist anywhere outside of the sentence being analyzed, but it must function there as a complete grammatical unit. For example, in the sentence Yesterday I saw an orange bird with a white neck, the words an orange bird with a white neck form what is called a noun phrase, or a determiner phrase in some theories, which functions as the object of the sentence.

In 2015 the British Museum celebrated the Days of the Dead in a four-day festival full of colour, music, storytelling and art. This beautiful documentary introduces the history and evolution of the Mexican Day of the Dead, from its pagan beginnings to the multi-faceted ceremony it is today. Artist Betsabee Romero, curator Laura Osorio Sunnucks and paleobiologist Omar Regalado Fernandez talk about how every year the dead are remembered and summoned by the observances of the living who cook, eat drink, make music and decorate their graves - by 'the spirit of things, and the love of us'. The Days of the Dead festival was at the British Museum from 30th October to 2nd November 2015. Supported by BP In association with the Government of Mexico as part of 2015: Year of Mexico in the UK

The Day of the Dead Festival in Mexico is an amazing event. This year, 2016, Mexico City held it's first ever parade. La desfile de Dia de Muertos. There was an insane amount of people there, with the advice from some friends, I tried to get into the press area. The bouncer said a flat "No". I kept asking, and some of the locals began chanting "Let him in, Let him in", the guy opened the gate, and here we are. I was basically in the Parade. This is why I love travel! Music, Costumes, Floats, Dancing, it was an incredible fiesta. Personally, I'm used to celebrating Halloween, but they take it to the next level with Day of the Dead. Families from all over Mexico celebrate the lives of those who have passed away, and give offerings to help them in the afterlife. Over the past few years (wit...

Behind The Scenes with DAY OF THE DEAD featurette from the original Anchor Bay DVD. Directed by Tony Buba.
In his latest book, The Work of the Dead, Berkeley historian Thomas Laqueur chronicles the history of humanity’s treatment of the dead. As CLAS celebrates the Day of the Dead, Professor Laqueur will discuss why we care for dead bodies and why ghosts are such a persistent part of human cultures. Thomas Laqueur is the Helen Fawcett Professor of History at UC Berkeley. Born in Istanbul, raised in West Virginia, and a graduate of Swarthmore and Princeton, his work has focused on the history of popular religion and literacy, as well as the body, death, and memory. Recipient of numerous honors, Professor Laqueur used funds from his Mellon Distinguished Humanist Award to found ongoing programs in religion, human rights, and science studies at Berkeley.
I took a trip down to Mexico.
I tried to find my hairless dog.
I was searching in every crevice, when something strange came out of the fog.
I heard a scream - can this be.
This woman she had no head
I turned, something grabbed me.
How was I to know this was the day of the dead?
I saw this hand just like a reptile, I heard a ripping of my clothes
Almost naked I broke free to see her skull looking down at me.
I heard a scream - can this be.
This woman she had no head.
I turned, something grabbed me.
How was I to know this was the day of the dead?
Now I'm buried down in Mexico.
These women they suck my blood.
Now I wonder must I stay rotting here in a shallow grave.
I screamed - what can this be there's a scratching from above
