Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The city is in the southeastern portion of the Chicago metropolitan area and is 25 miles from downtown Chicago. The population is 80,294 at the 2010 census, making it the seventh-largest city in the state. It borders Lake Michigan and is known for its large steel mills and as the birthplace of the Jacksons singing family. Gary is adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
The city was founded in 1906 by the United States Steel Corporation as the home for its new plant. The city was named after the lawyer and founding chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert Henry Gary.
Gary's fortunes have risen and fallen with those of the steel industry. The growth of the steel industry brought prosperity to the community. Broadway Avenue was known as a commercial center for the region. Department stores and architecturally significant movie houses were built in the downtown area and the Glen Park neighborhood.
In the 1960s, like many other American urban centers reliant on one particular industry, Gary entered a spiral of decline. Gary's decline was brought on by the growing overseas competitiveness in the steel industry, which had caused U.S. Steel to lay off many workers from the Gary area. As the city declined, crime increased.
Gary Jules (born March 19, 1969 as Gary Jules Aguirre, Jr.) is an American singer-songwriter, best known for his cover version of the Tears For Fears classic "Mad World", which Gary recorded with friend Michael Andrews for the film Donnie Darko. It became the UK Christmas Number One single of 2003. Since then, Gary's version has been used on popular American TV shows, in a commercial for the critically acclaimed video game Gears of War, an episode of CSI: Las Vegas, and a Season 5 episode of the medical drama House.
Some of Gary's early projects/bands were The Ivory Knights, Our Town Pansies, Woodenfish, Kofi, The Origin, Invisible, No poetry, and Heroes and Heroin.[citation needed] Gary's 2003 residency at the Los Angeles Hotel Café helped develop the venue as a successful singer/songwriter venue for other artists such as Gary.
Zhang Anda (born December 25, 1991) is a Chinese professional snooker player, who made his debut on the Main Tour for the 2009/2010 season. He qualified by winning the ACBS Asian Under-21 Championship.
Standing at 5 ft 3ins tall, he is nicknamed "Mighty Mouse". Zhang lives in Romford, England during the snooker season and is managed by Grove Leisure, practising at their Academy facility which is also based in Romford.
The 2009/2010 season was Zhang's first professional season on the tour.
It started uneventfully with a defeat in his first match in the first qualifying round of the Shanghai Masters to Craig Steadman 2–5.
His second ranking tournament, the Grand Prix, proved to be slightly more successful with wins against Ben Woollaston 5–3 and Jin Long 5–2. He was then eliminated by Welshman Dominic Dale 5–0.
He reached the last 16 of the Masters Qualifying before losing 5–3 to Andrew Higginson.
In the UK Championship he again lost his first match against Xiao Guodong 9–5. He lost in the first qualifying round of the China Open against Chris Norbury 4–5.
Andrew Pagett (born 25 April 1982) is a Welsh professional snooker player.
He became a professional in 2003, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2008/2009, but lost his place after just one season. He regained his place for the 2010/2011 season by topping the Welsh rankings. He is a practice partner of Mark Williams.
Pagett qualified for the 2011 World Snooker Championship after winning four qualifying matches. He knocked out Zhang Anda, Bjorn Haneveer and Nigel Bond, before beating Andrew Higginson 10–6 to qualify for the final stages of a major event for the first time, where he was defeated 10–7 by Jamie Cope.
Pagett began the 2011/2012 season ranked 71st in the world meaning he would have to win four qualifying matches to reach the ranking event main draws. However, after attempting to qualify for all eight tournaments he only managed to win two matches; one at the Australian Goldfields Open and the other at the German Masters. Pagett played in 11 of the 12 minor-ranking Players Tour Championship events throughout the season, with his best finishes coming in Event 4 and Event 9, where he reached the last 32. He was ranked number 82 on the PTC Order of Merit. Pagett finished the season without a world ranking and will not play on the main tour in the 2012/2013 season.
Marcus Campbell (born 22 September 1972 in Dumbarton, Scotland) is a Scottish professional snooker player. He lives in Erskine. He has been ranked within the world's top 64 for 9 consecutive seasons and is currently ranked at 23.
He is perhaps most famous for whitewashing Stephen Hendry 9–0 in the 1998 Liverpool Victoria UK Championship, one of the most surprising results in snooker's history. He followed this win with 9–6 win over Quinten Hann in the last 32.
He started the 2007/2008 season strongly by reaching the last 16 of the Grand Prix, coming through the qualifiers and beating players like Graeme Dott and Anthony Hamilton before his run ended in a 5–2 defeat to Joe Swail. He also reached the last 32 of the Welsh Open where he beat Lee Spick, Ricky Walden and Gerard Greene and gave Ding Junhui a run for his money before Ding eventually won 5–4. He qualified for the 2008 Bahrain Championship before scoring a 147 in his wildcard match. He lost to eventual champion Neil Robertson in the last 32. He then qualified for the 2010 World Championship, where he lost 10–5 to Mark Williams.
Took a trip on a bus that I didn't know
Met a girl selling drinks at the disco
Said you'd come back when you let it go
Seems complicated cause it's really so simple
Walking down Yonge Street on a Friday
Can't follow them, gotta do it my way
No fast lanes, still on the highway
Moving in and out, no doubt there's a brighter day
[chorus]
No time to get down 'cause I'm moving up
No time to get down 'cause I'm moving up
No time to get down 'cause I'm moving up, ah-ah
Check out the crabs in the bucket
[repeat]
It's like flies on the windscreen, writing on walls
Square these clones claim they're having a ball
Blaming themselves just before last call
Tic-a-tic-a-toc, tic-a-tic-a-toc
Clock strikes twelve, clock strikes one
Smoking Gun put these fools on the run
I know it's not that simple, I know it's not that hard
Where's your goal?
[chorus]
[rap]
You know what I mean
Yeah, I heard ya, man
Yo check it out
Yeah, it's a conniption fit on the microphone lit
I take it higher like a bird on a wire
Retire the fire, I never cause I'm just movin' on up
Choosin' to touch the unseen, cravin' the clutch
The most inevitable legible pyromania
Slayin' the devil and sending them back to Transylvania
Strangely enough I uphold that side as ghetto
From my heavy metal, will settle the puppets like Gepetto
Damn if mirrors were created by sand
Then I'm looking in the water for reflections of man
Understand the minds above time when it's empty
MC tragically hip ahead by a century
Rah!
It's high now, so low it's high
Like this, check it out yo
