Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) believes that a severely injured racehorse deserves another chance. He and his daughter Cale (Dakota Fanning) adopt the horse (in fact is a mare)and save it of being sacrificed by the owner (David Morse). The arrival of the mare to Crane's farm, will be the perfect opportunity for both father and daughter to reconstruct their lost familiar bond.

Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. Ben has a hard time convincing anyone that the injured horse has any potential, especially his father, Pop (Kris Kristofferson), a fellow trainer who rarely sees eye to eye with his son. But Cale loves the horse, and Ben believes that Sonador can make a comeback with the right care, and together with stable men Balon (Luis Guzman) and Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez), he sets out to put the filly on the road to recovery. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.

You have to wonder just how many times a movie like this can be remade before people just get plain sick and tired of them. But Dreamer plays to the age old dreams of little girls (and some boys) everywhere, and it's wholesome entertainment with enough big name actors to keep the imaginations of the parents alive in the theatre as well. In this case, the "inspired by a true story" addendum is slapped on to the title to remind us of a horse named Mariah's Storm that accomplished between 1993 and 1995 the exact feat we are presented with in Dreamer: a promising horse that breaks its leg in a race (an all-too-common occurrence in the modern age of cortisone shots for horses... but that's a whole other controversy) but is mended against all odds to win a major race for its destitute owner. For the purposes of good moviemaking, you throw in a little girl, a mysterious grandparent (Dakota Fanning and Kris Kristofferson rarely hurt any film they're in), a resolute Kurt Russell, and hope the script works. First-time director John Gatins is also the first-time screenwriter, and indications from the critics are that the film plays exactly as it should to the right audience. The beautiful setting of Kentucky as well as the feel-good nature of the story would merit the ultimate in pastoral scores, and while Hollywood veteran John Debney seems like the perfect choice for the project, Gatins was originally slated to employ Jan A.P. Kaczmarek for Dreamer. Perhaps choosing Kaczmarek simply because of his Academy Award win early in the year, Gatins was witness to the firing of Kaczmarek for reasons not precisely known, but perhaps due to the composer's poor genre placement in the first place. Thus, John Debney, not only the ultimate expert in score replacement, expansion, and temp-track emulation, but also a composer familiar with heroic sports and Americana stories, was hired to provide the predictable score. In fact, Debney's job is preformed so well, that Dreamer fits every stereotype he was likely asked to recreate.
The important part of Debney's work for Dreamer, however, is that despite his ability to gladly provide the same score that dozens have written before, he does so with a highly emotional performance and superior recording quality. For fans, we may listen to the score and debate which six or seven scores its pretty, orchestral themes of the heartland are inspired by, and yet to the average parent and his/her eight-year-old, Debney has done a fantastic job. Dreamer really is a pleasant, enjoyable score to relax to on a sunny day, with flowing performances by soloists that provide just enough country atmosphere without irritating those of us who don't care much for that environment. The traditional orchestra is accompanied by acoustic guitars, dulcimer, mandola, and the more prominent solos by Joshua Bell on violin and Michael Lang on piano. There is definitely some James Horner sensibility to be heard with these solos, but Debney achieves that extra level of child-like exuberance through the rhythmically propulsive sections in which the full strings ramble over the acoustic guitars. The themes are a bit anonymous, but their harmony is never in question, and once again Debney's talents at mutating temp scores such as Legends of the Fall and (especially) Black Beauty into a convincingly fresh idea must be commended. The only disappointment regarding the score for Dreamer is that the talents of Bell and Lang aren't utilized with enough emphasis (outside of obvious uses, such as the violin solos in the opening cue) to give these Debney themes an identity that would stand out after the film is over. This seems to be a characteristic inherent in horse racing film scores (from The Black Stallion to Seabiscuit in the modern age), and one thing Dreamer also reminds us of is just how funny, unique, and remarkable Mark Isham's score for Racing Stripes was earlier in the year. On album, Dreamer is a lengthy exercise in undemanding and pleasant listening, with the expected flourishes of hope and sustained action of the finale. Several alternate mixes (including one that proves that the violin solos in the opening cue were severely underplayed in the film) are concluded with one unfortunate pop song as a hidden track. Overall, Debney's work is a winner in its genre.

Dreamer is a 2005 American family drama film starring Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning, inspired by the true story of an injured Thoroughbred racehorse named Mariah's Storm. It marked the directing and screenwriting debut of John Gatins.
Inspired by a true story, Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning star as the father and daughter who lack a much needed bond. Ben (Kurt Russell), a horse trainer who takes his work very seriously, neglects his own aspiring daughter while he pours his heart into the care of the horses that he trains.
Determined to make good on her father's overdue promise, Cale (Dakota Fanning) prods him one morning to take her along to work by standing in front of his pickup truck just as he starts to head out to the track. Ben, reluctant at first, finally gives in and drives off with her in tow.
Throughout the movie Cale continues to prod her father to take her along on some of his work trips, and succeeds. One morning, however, while with her father, a horse named Soñador falls during a race, injuring herself badly enough that Ben's boss, Palmer, demands the horse be put down. Having Cale along, Ben refuses and strikes a bargain with Palmer. Ben, now the owner of a wounded horse, with no job and facing foreclosure on his estate, decides to breed Soñador.

Thus, John Debney, not only the ultimate expert in score replacement, expansion, and temp-track emulation, but also a composer familiar with heroic sports and Americana stories, was hired to provide the predictable score. In fact, Debney's job is preformed so well, that Dreamer fits every stereotype he was likely asked to recreate. The important part of Debney's work for Dreamer, however, is that despite his ability to gladly provide the same score that dozens have written before, he does so with a highly emotional performance and superior recording quality. For fans, we may listen to the score and debate which six or seven scores its pretty, orchestral themes of the heartland are inspired by, and yet to the average parent and his/her eight-year-old, Debney has done a fantastic job. Dreamer really is a pleasant, enjoyable score to relax to on a sunny day, with flowing performances by soloists that provide just enough country atmosphere without irritating those of us who don't care much for that environment. The traditional orchestra is accompanied by acoustic guitars, dulcimer, mandola, and the more prominent solos by Joshua Bell on violin and Michael Lang on piano. There is definitely some James Horner sensibility to be heard with these solos, but Debney achieves that extra level of child-like exuberance through the rhythmically propulsive sections in which the full strings ramble over the acoustic guitars. The themes are a bit anonymous, but their harmony is never in question, and once again Debney's talents at mutating temp scores such as Legends of the Fall and (especially) Black Beauty into a convincingly fresh idea must be commended. The only disappointment regarding the score for Dreamer is that the talents of Bell and Lang aren't utilized with enough emphasis (outside of obvious uses, such as the violin solos in the opening cue) to give these Debney themes an identity that would stand out after the film is over. This seems to be a characteristic inherent in horse racing film scores (from The Black Stallion to Seabiscuit in the modern age), and one thing Dreamer also reminds us of is just how funny, unique, and remarkable Mark Isham's score for Racing Stripes was earlier in the year. On album, Dreamer is a lengthy exercise in undemanding and pleasant listening, with the expected flourishes of hope and sustained action of the finale. Several alternate mixes (including one that proves that the violin solos in the opening cue were severely underplayed in the film) are concluded with one unfortunate pop song as a hidden track. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.

You have to wonder just how many times a movie like this can be remade before people just get plain sick and tired of them. But Dreamer plays to the age old dreams of little girls (and some boys) everywhere, and it's wholesome entertainment with enough big name actors to keep the imaginations of the parents alive in the theatre as well. In this case, the "inspired by a true story" addendum is slapped on to the title to remind us of a horse named Mariah's Storm that accomplished between 1993 and 1995 the exact feat we are presented with in Dreamer: a promising horse that breaks its leg in a race (an all-too-common occurrence in the modern age of cortisone shots for horses... but that's a whole other controversy) but is mended against all odds to win a major race for its destitute owner. For the purposes of good moviemaking, you throw in a little girl, a mysterious grandparent (Dakota Fanning and Kris Kristofferson rarely hurt any film they're in), a resolute Kurt Russell, and hope the script works. First-time director John Gatins is also the first-time screenwriter, and indications from the critics are that the film plays exactly as it should to the right audience. The beautiful setting of Kentucky as well as the feel-good nature of the story would merit the ultimate in pastoral scores, and while Hollywood veteran John Debney seems like the perfect choice for the project, Gatins was originally slated to employ Jan A.P. Kaczmarek for Dreamer. Perhaps choosing Kaczmarek simply because of his Academy Award win early in the year, Gatins was witness to the firing of Kaczmarek for reasons not precisely known, but perhaps due to the composer's poor genre placement in the first place. Thus, John Debney, not only the ultimate expert in score replacement, expansion, and temp-track emulation, but also a composer familiar with heroic sports and Americana stories, was hired to provide the predictable score. In fact, Debney's job is preformed so well, that Dreamer fits every stereotype he was likely asked to recreate.
The important part of Debney's work for Dreamer, however, is that despite his ability to gladly provide the same score that dozens have written before, he does so with a highly emotional performance and superior recording quality. For fans, we may listen to the score and debate which six or seven scores its pretty, orchestral themes of the heartland are inspired by, and yet to the average parent and his/her eight-year-old, Debney has done a fantastic job. Dreamer really is a pleasant, enjoyable score to relax to on a sunny day, with flowing performances by soloists that provide just enough country atmosphere without irritating those of us who don't care much for that environment. The traditional orchestra is accompanied by acoustic guitars, dulcimer, mandola, and the more prominent solos by Joshua Bell on violin and Michael Lang on piano. There is definitely some James Horner sensibility to be heard with these solos, but Debney achieves that extra level of child-like exuberance through the rhythmically propulsive sections in which the full strings ramble over the acoustic guitars. The themes are a bit anonymous, but their harmony is never in question, and once again Debney's talents at mutating temp scores such as Legends of the Fall and (especially) Black Beauty into a convincingly fresh idea must be commended. The only disappointment regarding the score for Dreamer is that the talents of Bell and Lang aren't utilized with enough emphasis (outside of obvious uses, such as the violin solos in the opening cue) to give these Debney themes an identity that would stand out after the film is over. This seems to be a characteristic inherent in horse racing film scores (from The Black Stallion to Seabiscuit in the modern age), and one thing Dreamer also reminds us of is just how funny, unique, and remarkable Mark Isham's score for Racing Stripes was earlier in the year. On album, Dreamer is a lengthy exercise in undemanding and pleasant listening, with the expected flourishes of hope and sustained action of the finale. Several alternate mixes (including one that proves that the violin solos in the opening cue were severely underplayed in the film) are concluded with one unfortunate pop song as a hidden track. Overall, Debney's work is a winner in its genre.

A man and his young daughter face almost impossible odds as they struggle to help an injured horse return to the racetrack in this family-friendly drama. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a horse trainer whose career has gone into a bit of a slump, and after years as his own boss, he's signed on to work for Palmer (David Morse), a breeder whose wealth and success has given him a certain degree of arrogance. While Ben has learned to keep his mouth shut around his boss, he forgets himself when one of his favorite horses, Sonador, breaks its leg during an important race. Palmer insists that the horse should be put down on the spot, but Ben doesn't have the heart to kill the animal, especially since his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is in the stands watching. Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. Ben has a hard time convincing anyone that the injured horse has any potential, especially his father, Pop (Kris Kristofferson), a fellow trainer who rarely sees eye to eye with his son. But Cale loves the horse, and Ben believes that Sonador can make a comeback with the right care, and together with stable men Balon (Luis Guzman) and Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez), he sets out to put the filly on the road to recovery. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.

Century Child es un álbum del grupo de metal finlandés Nightwish. Es su cuarto álbum, publicado en el año 2002.
Es el primer álbum con el bajista Marco Hietala, anteriormente miembro del grupo Sinergy, quien también hace voces, reemplazando a Sami Vänskä. Century Child incluye canciones que tocan una gran variedad de temas y pensamientos en sus letras, desde la furia (en Slaying the dreamer) hasta el más completo romanticismo (en Forever yours). La producción del álbum está muy cuidada.
El disco también tiene la particularidad de incluir una versión de "El Fantasma de la Ópera" (The Phantom of the Opera), originalmente escrita por Andrew Lloyd Webber para Sarah Brightman y Michael Crawford. Esta obra también fue versionada por bandas del mundo del Gothic metal como Dreams of Sanity, Lacrimosa y Anabantha (siendo la versión de este último en español).

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A man and his young daughter face almost impossible odds as they struggle to help an injured horse return to the racetrack in this family-friendly drama. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a horse trainer whose career has gone into a bit of a slump, and after years as his own boss, he's signed on to work for Palmer (David Morse), a breeder whose wealth and success has given him a certain degree of arrogance. While Ben has learned to keep his mouth shut around his boss, he forgets himself when one of his favorite horses, Sonador, breaks its leg during an important race. Palmer insists that the horse should be put down on the spot, but Ben doesn't have the heart to kill the animal, especially since his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is in the stands watching. Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. Ben has a hard time convincing anyone that the injured horse has any potential, especially his father, Pop (Kris Kristofferson), a fellow trainer who rarely sees eye to eye with his son. But Cale loves the horse, and Ben believes that Sonador can make a comeback with the right care, and together with stable men Balon (Luis Guzman) and Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez), he sets out to put the filly on the road to recovery. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.

A man and his young daughter face almost impossible odds as they struggle to help an injured horse return to the racetrack in this family-friendly drama. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a horse trainer whose career has gone into a bit of a slump, and after years as his own boss, he's signed on to work for Palmer (David Morse), a breeder whose wealth and success has given him a certain degree of arrogance. While Ben has learned to keep his mouth shut around his boss, he forgets himself when one of his favorite horses, Sonador, breaks its leg during an important race. Palmer insists that the horse should be put down on the spot, but Ben doesn't have the heart to kill the animal, especially since his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is in the stands watching. Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.

Ben (Kurt Russell) reads Cale's story in front of the class at parent's night and is touched deeply by it.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A man and his young daughter face almost impossible odds as they struggle to help an injured horse return to the racetrack in this family-friendly drama. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a horse trainer whose career has gone into a bit of a slump, and after years as his own boss, he's signed on to work for Palmer (David Morse), a breeder whose wealth and success has given him a certain degree of arrogance. While Ben has learned to keep his mouth shut around his boss, he forgets himself when one of his favorite horses, Sonador, breaks its leg during an important race. Palmer insists that the horse should be put down on the spot, but Ben doesn't have the heart to kill the animal, especially since his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is in the stands watching. Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. Ben has a hard time convincing anyone that the injured horse has any potential, especially his father, Pop (Kris Kristofferson), a fellow trainer who rarely sees eye to eye with his son. But Cale loves the horse, and Ben believes that Sonador can make a comeback with the right care, and together with stable men Balon (Luis Guzman) and Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez), he sets out to put the filly on the road to recovery. As its subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup.
