When Brittany Howell's Utah Guardsman husband was deployed to Afghanistan, her boss did everything she could to support Howell through that challenging time. For that compassionate approach, Salt Lake County employee Jan Fritz received the "Patriot Award" on Tuesday from the Utah committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Fritz, an internal services manager at the facility, allowed Howell more flexibility before the deployment so she could spend time with her husband, then even showed up at the airport to offer encouragement. "We're all family," Fritz said after accepting the award from committee official Jeff Tiede and congratulations from Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.
