How to deal with people who are arrogant, ignorant, condescending and full of false pride who seek to belittle you, your success and tear you down in an effort to make themselves feel better about their shitty lives.
In this video coaching newsletter, I discuss an email from a viewer who is twenty-three and has had a total of two relationships in his short life. He starts out by complimenting me on what he has learned from reading my book, but then goes on a rant that reeks of false pride, arrogance, ignorance and condescension as he tries to belittle me, my work and my methods that have helped tens of thousands of men and women all over the world to improve the quality of their lives and personal relationships. This is a prime example of the type of self-hating and self-loathing kind of people who go through live tearing other people down in order to build themselves up and make themselves feel better, even though inside they feel like a giant pile of steaming dog-dung. I discuss why you must tune these kinds of people out and can’t let them discourage or influence the pursuit of your grandest goals and dreams.

Dealing with someone that has a superiority complex can be frustrating since they may always prove you wrong and make you feel inferior to them. But, realizing that you cannot change their behavior and that you do not have to associate with their views can certainly help you tolerate their behavior in a more constructive manner as well as perhaps help them realize their own behavior which can allow them to help themselves.

While we shake our heads in disbelief that the U.S. government cannot manage to speak to each other effectively, I'm devoting this week's blog post to arrogance. I have a theory about this particular state of being and perhaps if we can re-frame the way we habitually think about (and then subsequently deal with) arrogant people, then we can change the dynamics of ANY conversation. There is so much important work to do in this world. If we are all going to play nice in the sandbox, we better learn how to handle even the toughest egos.

If you find yourself in a hopeless state, when you feel like your heart in fact has become hard and you have developed this sort of a problem. Sometimes the religious personality or the appearance of the religious personality is very intimidating. It's hard to talk to them. You are scared to be around them, cuz you know they are going to talk down to you about something. Right! You are afraid of them. Sister that don't wear hijab keep, they cross the street and go the other way. 'Oh...Here she comes again -- 'the hijab police. Or she is going to tell me something. She is gonna say something, make me feel bad.'
Right! Now on one hand, that is paranoia. But on the other hand sometimes it is true. There are people that are condescending to others. They are arrogant towards others. Tell me this, weren't you a party animal not too long ago? And when people tried to tell you about it, how did you behave towards them? Did you forget where you came from? How far Allah brought you. Right! People forget that!
People forget where they used to be and where Allah brought them and then years later, they see someone who is a party animal and they say. 'Astghfirullah! How could he be like that' Where were you?! That guy should remind you of yourself. You were exactly like that. So you should remember Allah's favor upon you. You used to be at the very edge of the fire...He pulled you out of it. And it's in that ayah Allah says...same ayah, He put love between your hearts.
To have love between you hearts, you have to remember you used to be at the fire's edge yourself. And you got pulled back and it wasn't because of you. It's not because you are a really smart person and that's why you deserve to be pulled back. Whose favor was it to you? Allah's favor to you. How dare you look at somebody else and think like that? Right! This arrogance is a horrible thing. It'll wipe out all the goodness out of you. It'll wipe all the goodness out of you.

He starts out by complimenting me on what he has learned from reading my book, but then goes on a rant that reeks of false pride, arrogance, ignorance and condescension as he tries to belittle me, my work and my methods that have helped tens of thousands of men and women all over the world to improve the quality of their lives and personal relationships. While we shake our heads in disbelief that the U.S. government cannot manage to speak to each other effectively, I'm devoting this week's blog post to arrogance. I have a theory about this particular state of being and perhaps if we can re-frame the way we habitually think about (and then subsequently deal with) arrogant people, then we can change the dynamics of ANY conversation. There is so much important work to do in this world. If we are all going to play nice in the sandbox, we better learn how to handle even the toughest egos.

If you find yourself in a hopeless state, when you feel like your heart in fact has become hard and you have developed this sort of a problem. Sometimes the religious personality or the appearance of the religious personality is very intimidating. It's hard to talk to them. You are scared to be around them, cuz you know they are going to talk down to you about something. Right! You are afraid of them. Sister that don't wear hijab keep, they cross the street and go the other way. 'Oh...Here she comes again -- 'the hijab police. Or she is going to tell me something. She is gonna say something, make me feel bad.'
Right! Now on one hand, that is paranoia. But on the other hand sometimes it is true. There are people that are condescending to others. They are arrogant towards others. Tell me this, weren't you a party animal not too long ago? And when people tried to tell you about it, how did you behave towards them? Did you forget where you came from? How far Allah brought you. Right! People forget that!
People forget where they used to be and where Allah brought them and then years later, they see someone who is a party animal and they say. 'Astghfirullah! How could he be like that' Where were you?! That guy should remind you of yourself. You were exactly like that. So you should remember Allah's favor upon you. You used to be at the very edge of the fire...He pulled you out of it. And it's in that ayah Allah says...same ayah, He put love between your hearts.
To have love between you hearts, you have to remember you used to be at the fire's edge yourself. And you got pulled back and it wasn't because of you. It's not because you are a really smart person and that's why you deserve to be pulled back. Whose favor was it to you? Allah's favor to you. How dare you look at somebody else and think like that? Right! This arrogance is a horrible thing. It'll wipe out all the goodness out of you. It'll wipe all the goodness out of you.
