THE TRAGEDY OF PUNJABI LANGUAGE
In 1947 we inherited a trilingual society which was an illegitimate child of British Raj, responsible of deliberately imposing an alien language in Punjab. English enjoyed the supreme position of official language, while Urdu along with English was made language of learning and Punjabi which was language of the soil was allowed to be alive only as a spoken language of Punjabis. People accepted this phenomena as a circumstantial oppression but situation altogether changed after partition when Punjabi was discarded outright for being a language of abuses spoken by Kaafirs . Mothers started speaking Urdu to the infants and within a span of two decades trilingual character of our society changed into bilingual leaving Punjabi at the mercy of highly anti Punjabi mindset ruling elite and instinctively hostile bureaucracy. This is the tragedy of Punjab language which is the language of majority in Pakistan. It is the mother tongue of more than 100 million people of Punjab and is spoken as first language by 60 % and easily understood by almost 80 % of Pakistanis. It is the 12th most spoken language in the world.11th most spoken language in India.4th most spoken language in Canada.3rd most spoken language in South Asia and 2nd most spoken language in Britain. It is a complete standardized language owned by approximately 150 million people around the globe.

Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ/پنجابی) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by inhabitants of the historical Punjab region (north western India and eastern Pakistan). In Pakistan, Punjabi is the most widely spoken language. Punjabi can be subdivided into two varieties, Eastern Punjabi in India and Western Punjabi in Pakistan. There are some 104 million native speakers of the Punjabi language, 76 million in Pakistan (2008) and 28 million in India (2001), making it the 10th most widely spoken language in the world.
The Punjabi language has many different dialects, spoken in the different sub-regions of greater Punjab. The Majhi dialect is Punjabi's prestige dialect and shared by both countries. This dialect is considered as textbook Punjabi and is spoken in the historical region of Majha, centralizing in Lahore and Amritsar.
Along with Lahnda and Western Pahari languages, Punjabi is unusual among modern Indo-European languages because it is a tonal language. For Sikhs, the Punjabi language stands as the official language in which all ceremonies take place. 21 February is celebrated as "Mother Tongue Punjabi" Day in Punjabi diaspora.

Imran Khan Niazi (Urdu: عمران خان نیازی; born 25 November 1952) is a Pakistani politician and former cricketer, playing international cricket for two decades in the late twentieth century. After retiring, he entered politics. Arguably Pakistan's most successful cricket captain, Khan played for the Pakistani cricket team from 1971 to 1992 and served as its captain intermittently throughout 1982–1992. After retiring from cricket at the end of the 1987 World Cup, he was called back to join the team in 1988. At 39, Khan led his teammates to Pakistan's first and only World Cup victory in 1992. He has a record of 3807 runs and 362 wickets in Test cricket, making him one of eight world cricketers to have achieved an 'All-rounder's Triple' in Test matches. On 14 July 2010, Khan was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Punjabi Language Movement in Pakistan
PLM stages hunger strike on The Mother Language Day ( 21 Feb 2011 ) in front of Punjab Assembly Building Lahore demanding National , Official and Educational status for PUNJABI .LET US SAVE PUNJABI Hunger strike to protest against the 150 years old continuous ban imposed by the imperialists on mother tongue as medium of instruction in Punjab and to support the demands to declare Sindhi,Punjabi,Pushto and Balochi as the national languages of Pakistan.Let us join hands to end the 150 years old state sponsored terrorism and exploitation against our mother tongue. THE TRAGEDY OF PUNJABI LANGUAGE In 1947 we inherited a trilingual society which was an illegitimate child of British Raj, responsible of deliberately imposing an alien language in Punjab. English enjoyed the supreme position of official language, while Urdu along with English was made language of learning and Punjabi which was language of the soil was allowed to be alive only as a spoken language of Punjabis. People accepted this phenomena as a circumstantial oppression but situation altogether changed after partition when Punjabi was discarded outright for being a language of abuses spoken by Kaafirs . Mothers started speaking Urdu to the infants and within a span of two decades trilingual character of our society changed into bilingual leaving Punjabi at the mercy of highly anti Punjabi mindset ruling elite and instinctively hostile bureaucracy. This is the tragedy of Punjab language which is the language of majority in Pakistan. It is the mother tongue of more than 100 million people of Punjab and is spoken as first language by 60 % and easily understood by almost 80 % of Pakistanis. It is the 12th most spoken language in the world.11th most spoken language in India.4th most spoken language in Canada.3rd most spoken language in South Asia and 2nd most spoken language in Britain. It is a complete standardized language owned by approximately 150 million people around the globe. -

Punjabi (/pʌnˈdʒɑːbi/; Gurmukhi: ਪੰਜਾਬੀ Paṃjābī; Shahmukhi: پنجابی Paṉjābī) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by 130 million native speakers worldwide, making it the 10th most widely spoken language (2013) in the world. It is the native language of the Punjabi people who inhabit the historical Punjab region of Pakistan and India. It is the only tonal language among the Indo-Aryan languages. Punjabi is the most widely spoken language in Pakistan and the 11th most widely spoken in India and the 3rd-most natively spoken language in Indian Subcontinent. Punjabi is the fourth most spoken language in England and Wales and third most spoken in Canada. The language also has a significant presence in the United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. The influence of Punjabi as a cultural language in the Indian Subcontinent is increasing day by day due to Bollywood. Most Bollywood movies now have Punjabi vocabulary mixed in, along with a few songs fully sung in Punjabi. 150years old ban on Punjabi language be abolished:Nazeer Kahut
'Punjab wants its mother tongue back' LAHORE - Punjabi Language Movement (PLM) staged a protest outside the Lahore Press Club on Sunday, and demanded that Punjabi language should not be discriminated and students should be given basic education in Punjabi. Speaking on the occasion, PLM Convener Chaudhry Nazeer Kahut said, "Punjab wants its mother tongue back. The 150-year old undeclared and unofficial ban on basic education in Punjab should be abolished and systematic cleansing of the language must be stopped. We want Punjabi kids to be given basic education in their mother tongue just like the children of the rest of the world." He said 'constitutional, moral, legal, and democratic rights' of the Punjabis were being usurped by the 'anti-Punjabi rulers', who were obstructing the implementation of Punjabi as the official and academic language. About the proposed National Language Constitution Amendment Bill 2011, Kahut said the bill, with its 'divisive nature' and 'controversial contents', could push the country into an ethno-lingual conflict. Country integrity will be at stake if the bill was passed, thus they demanded that the bill may be withdrawn or changed. Sindhi, Punjabi, Pushto and Balochi being the languages of the majority in the federating units should be declared as national languages, he said. PLM demanded of the government to introduce the Punjabi Language Act in the Punjab Assembly. PLM delegations from Jhang, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Jehlum, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujarat, Faisalbad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawlagar, Nankana Sahib and Dera Ghazi Khan also attend the rally. He said Punjab wanted its mother tongue back, demanding stoppage of official discrimination against the mother tongue of 100 million people of Pakistan. He further said that the constitutional, moral, legal, and democratic rights of the Punjabi people were being usurped by the establishment and the integrity of Punjab was in grave danger. "Anti Punjabi language forces within the establishment and the rulers are hampering the implementation of the Punjabi as the official, academic and legal language in the Punjab," he added. THE TRAGEDY OF PUNJABI LANGUAGE
In 1947 we inherited a trilingual society which was an illegitimate child of British Raj, responsible of deliberately imposing an alien language in Punjab. English enjoyed the supreme position of official language, while Urdu along with English was made language of learning and Punjabi which was language of the soil was allowed to be alive only as a spoken language of Punjabis. People accepted this phenomena as a circumstantial oppression but situation altogether changed after partition when Punjabi was discarded outright for being a language of abuses spoken by Kaafirs . Mothers started speaking Urdu to the infants and within a span of two decades trilingual character of our society changed into bilingual leaving Punjabi at the mercy of highly anti Punjabi mindset ruling elite and instinctively hostile bureaucracy. This is the tragedy of Punjab language which is the language of majority in Pakistan. It is the mother tongue of more than 100 million people of Punjab and is spoken as first language by 60 % and easily understood by almost 80 % of Pakistanis. It is the 12th most spoken language in the world.11th most spoken language in India.4th most spoken language in Canada.3rd most spoken language in South Asia and 2nd most spoken language in Britain. It is a complete standardized language owned by approximately 150 million people around the globe.

It is the native language of the Punjabi people who inhabit the historical Punjab region of Pakistan and India. It is the only tonal language among the Indo-Aryan languages.
Punjabi is the most widely spoken language in Pakistan and the 11th most widely spoken in India and the 3rd-most natively spoken language in Indian Subcontinent. Punjabi is the fourth most spoken language in England and Wales and third most spoken in Canada. The language also has a significant presence in the United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. The influence of Punjabi as a cultural language in the Indian Subcontinent is increasing day by day due to Bollywood. Most Bollywood movies now have Punjabi vocabulary mixed in, along with a few songs fully sung in Punjabi. At any point in time, Punjabi songs in Bollywood movies now account for more than 50% of the top of the charts listings.

'Punjab wants its mother tongue back'
LAHORE - Punjabi Language Movement (PLM) staged a protest outside the Lahore Press Club on Sunday, and demanded that Punjabi language should not be discriminated and students should be given basic education in Punjabi.
Speaking on the occasion, PLM Convener Chaudhry Nazeer Kahut said, "Punjab wants its mother tongue back. The 150-year old undeclared and unofficial ban on basic education in Punjab should be abolished and systematic cleansing of the language must be stopped. We want Punjabi kids to be given basic education in their mother tongue just like the children of the rest of the world."
He said 'constitutional, moral, legal, and democratic rights' of the Punjabis were being usurped by the 'anti-Punjabi rulers', who were obstructing the implementation of Punjabi as the official and academic language. About the proposed National Language Constitution Amendment Bill 2011, Kahut said the bill, with its 'divisive nature' and 'controversial contents', could push the country into an ethno-lingual conflict.
Country integrity will be at stake if the bill was passed, thus they demanded that the bill may be withdrawn or changed. Sindhi, Punjabi, Pushto and Balochi being the languages of the majority in the federating units should be declared as national languages, he said. PLM demanded of the government to introduce the Punjabi Language Act in the Punjab Assembly.
PLM delegations from Jhang, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Jehlum, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujarat, Faisalbad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawlagar, Nankana Sahib and Dera Ghazi Khan also attend the rally. Other organizations who joined the rally included Punjabi Adbi Sangat, Khoj Garh, Khaaksaar Tehreek, Saanjh, National Youth Forum, Maan Boli Research Centre, Punjabi Sangat Pakistan, Punjabi Markaz, Sver International, Punjabi Writers Forum, National Students Federation, Punjabi Union, Pakistan Punjabi Adbi Board and Punjabi National Conference.
Prominent Punjabi writers, intellectuals, supporters and activists also attended the rally. PLM central convening committee members Taqriq Mahmud Jatala, Dr Dilshad Tiawana, Ghazala Alam, Kausar Tiwana and Umer Mahota also spoke on the occasion. The PLM also staged a protest demonstration at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday against the official discrimination of the Punjabi Language.
The participants of the protest were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans to end continuous official discrimination against Punjabi language.
On the occasion, a number of other organizations including Punjabi Adbi Sangat, Khoj Garh, Khaaksaar Tehreek, Saanjh, National Youth Forum, Maan Boli Research Centre, Punjabi Sangat Pakistan, Punjabi Markaz, Sver International, Punjabi writers Forum, National Students Federation, Punjabi Union, Pakistan, Punjabi Adbi Board and Punjabi National Conference joined the protest. Prominent Punjabi writers, intellectuals, supporters and activists including Taqriq Mahmud Jatala, Dr Dilshad Tiawana, Ghazala Alam, Kausar Tiwana and Umer Mahota also participated in the protest.
