In this English lesson, you will learn the difference between advice and advise.
Students often find these English words confusing because they have a similar spelling and pronunciation.
For both words, you will learn the different parts of speech (nouns and verbs), how to pronounce them and the different meanings and uses.
At the end of the lesson, there are some exercises in the form of a quiz to test your understanding of the difference between advice and advise.

Our radio show is more than just making self-proclamations of being "real" men, it's a state of mind and a way of life. First and foremost, we do not hate ladies. But we cant stand the 98% of women out there who feel entitled for free drinks and dinners. Although we are brutally honest and unyielding in our views on soft males, single mothers, and mad black women, we do not promote hating or completely disrespecting women. However, we DO hate and disrespect is the never-ending BS that too many men have to go through on a daily basis when dealing with most women and society. In other words, we have no problem expressing absolute contempt towards any irrational, disrespectful, and/or unrealistic behavior or attitude that is normally portrayed by women. We are feverishly working to put an end to all of that.

ADVISE (Analysis, Dissemination, Visualization, Insight, and Semantic Enhancement) is a research and development program within the United States Department of Homeland Security Threat and Vulnerability Testing and Assessment (TVTA) portfolio. It is reported to be developing a massive data mining system, which would collect and analyze data on everyone in the United States and perform a "threat analysis" of them. The data can be everything from financial records, phone records, emails, blog entries, website searches, and any other electronic information that can be put into a computer system. The information is then analyzed, and used to monitor social threats such as community-forming, terrorism, political organizing, or crime.
ADVISE will possess the ability to store one quadrillion data entities
The exact scope and degree of completion of the program is unclear. ADVISE is in the 2004-2006 Federal DHS Budget as a component of the $47 million TVTA program.[citation needed]
The program was officially scrapped in September 2007 after the agency's internal Inspector General found that pilot testing of the system had been performed using data on real people without required privacy safeguards in place.[citation needed]

Henry Jaynes Fonda (May 16, 1905 – August 12, 1982) was an American film and stage actor.
Fonda made his mark early as a Broadway actor. He also appeared in 1938 in plays performed in White Plains, New York, with Joan Tompkins. He made his Hollywood debut in 1935, and his career gained momentum after his Academy Award-nominated performance as Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath, a 1940 adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel about an Oklahoma family who moved west during the Dust Bowl. Throughout six decades in Hollywood, Fonda cultivated a strong, appealing screen image in such classics as The Ox-Bow Incident, Mister Roberts and 12 Angry Men. Later, Fonda moved both toward darker epics as Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West and lighter roles in family comedies like Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball.
Fonda was the patriarch of a family of famous actors, including daughter Jane Fonda, son Peter Fonda, granddaughter Bridget Fonda, and grandson Troy Garity. His family and close friends called him "Hank". In 1999, he was named the sixth-Greatest Male Star of All Time by the American Film Institute.

Watch this English lesson to learn how to give advice using the verbs: "suggest", "recommend", "propose", and "urge". Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on advice verbs. In this lesson, we will be looking at how to give a bit more formal advice. Now, if you're familiar with the verb, "should", you know that we use "should" for advice. Like: "You shouldn't drink and drive." for example. Or: "You should exercise regularly." Today, we're not looking at "should", we're looking at other advice verbs. And we're going to look at some correct structures when using these advice verbs. And I'm going to specifically focus on one very common mistake that I hear with a couple of these advice verbs. So, imagine this problem: I need a better job. Right? I need a better job. This is your problem or your friend's problem. Hmm, what kind of advice can you give for this? Well, you should, you know, update your resume. Now, let's look at some other verbs that we should use instead of "should". You can say: "I recommend", "I suggest", "I propose", "I advise", "I urge". "Urge" means that something is urgent and I'm pushing you to do it. Or: "I encourage", okay? Now, let's look at what can follow these specific advice verbs. The first three here: "recommend", "suggest", "propose", they can all be followed with these four structures here. So you can say: "I recommend updating your resume." So you can use a verb + "ing". Recommend doing something, suggest doing something, propose doing something. You can also use a possessive, like: "Your doing something", so you can do... This is known as a possessive gerund and you can use this to give advice as well, if it's a little more formal though. So you can say, again: "I recommend your updating your resume.", "I suggest your updating your resume.", "I propose your updating your resume." And the other two structures you can use are: "I recommend", "I suggest", "I propose that you", so you have the pronoun in between the object, "that you update your resume". Or without that, the same thing: "I recommend", "suggest", "propose you update". So these two structures are known as the subjunctive. Right? So you can use the subjunctive with these three verbs. And actually, you can also use the subjunctive with these three verbs. So the most common mistake that I hear and that I would like to correct today is a lot of students, when they use: "I suggest" and "I recommend", specifically those two verbs: "recommend" and "suggest", I always hear: "I recommend you to do something." Or: "I suggest you to do something." This is actually incorrect. The only four structures that you should be saying when giving advice with: "recommend", "suggest" would be one of these four. So: "I recommend doing", "I recommend your doing", "I recommend that you do", or: "I recommend you do." Okay. So you may be wondering: "Well, why did you write, you know, 'you to update'?" There is a category of advice verbs that do use this structure, but it's not "recommend", it's not "suggest", it's not "propose". It's, for example, these three verbs here: "I advise you to do something.", "I advise you to update your resume.", "I urge you to update your resume.", "I encourage you to update your resume." Now, if you're wondering... Let me put a star beside this, "advise", "urge", "encourage". Okay? So these three can use this structure, you can use: "I advise", "urge", "encourage" the person + the infinitive. So you can do this infinitive form. "To" + the base verb. You can do this with these three verbs, but you can't do it with: "recommend", "suggest", or "propose". Now, one more thing, you may be wondering: "Wait, with 'advise', 'urge', 'encourage', can I only do this?" No. You can say: "I advise", "I urge", "I encourage updating", "your updating", "that you update", "you update", "you to update". So these ones are actually more flexible because you can use all of these constructions. However, with the verb: "suggest", "recommend", "propose", only use these top four constructions. Okay? Hey, guys. I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on advice verbs. In this lesson, we will be looking at how to give a bit more formal advice. Now, if you're familiar with the verb, "should", you know that we use "should" for advice. Like: "You shouldn't drink and drive." for example. Or: "You should exercise regularly." Today, we're not looking at "should", we're looking at other advice verbs. And we're going to look at some correct structures when using these advice verbs. And I'm going to specifically focus on one very common mistake that I hear with a couple of these advice verbs.
So, imagine this problem: I need a better job. Right? I need a better job. This is your problem or your friend's problem. Hmm, what kind of advice can you give for this?
Well, you should, you know, update your resume. Now, let's look at some other verbs that we should use instead of "should". You can say: "I recommend", "I suggest", "I propose", "I advise", "I urge". "Urge" means that something is urgent and I'm pushing you to do it. Or: "I encourage", okay?
Now, let's look at what can follow these specific advice verbs. The first three here: "recommend", "suggest", "propose", they can all be followed with these four structures here. So you can say: "I recommend updating your resume." So you can use a verb + "ing". Recommend doing something, suggest doing something, propose doing something. You can also use a possessive, like: "Your doing something", so you can do... This is known as a possessive gerund and you can use this to give advice as well, if it's a little more formal though.
So you can say, again: "I recommend your updating your resume.", "I suggest your updating your resume.", "I propose your updating your resume." And the other two structures you can use are: "I recommend", "I suggest", "I propose that you", so you have the pronoun in between the object, "that you update your resume". Or without that, the same thing: "I recommend", "suggest", "propose you update". So these two structures are known as the subjunctive. Right? So you can use the subjunctive with these three verbs. And actually, you can also use the subjunctive with these three verbs.
So the most common mistake that I hear and that I would like to correct today is a lot of students, when they use: "I suggest" and "I recommend", specifically those two verbs: "recommend" and "suggest", I always hear: "I recommend you to do something." Or: "I suggest you to do something." This is actually incorrect. The only four structures that you should be saying when giving advice with: "recommend", "suggest" would be one of these four. So: "I recommend doing", "I recommend your doing", "I recommend that you do", or: "I recommend you do." Okay.
So you may be wondering: "Well, why did you write, you know, 'you to update'?" There is a category of advice verbs that do use this structure, but it's not "recommend", it's not "suggest", it's not "propose". It's, for example, these three verbs here: "I advise you to do something.", "I advise you to update your resume.", "I urge you to update your resume.", "I encourage you to update your resume."
Now, if you're wondering... Let me put a star beside this, "advise", "urge", "encourage". Okay? So these ones are actually more flexible because you can use all of these constructions. However, with the verb: "suggest", "recommend", "propose", only use these top four constructions. Okay?

In this video, the guys discuss their teenage years and advice they would give their younger selves.
Rian confesses that he only saw the band as a hobby and would get super irritated when his bandmates would stay over past band practice and eat all his food.
His Advice: "We're 27 now, and I can't tell you a real problem I had in high school that wasn't fixable," he said.
Alex stated that he was fairly insecure and made up for it by being a class clown. He later admitted that wasn’t really a “chronic” masterbator, but maybe above average.
His advice: "[Don't] be so concerned with what people think; have a little more confidence in his everyday life."
Alex was completely over school at this point and believed the band would make it big. “I definitely did think the band had a shot. I didn’t know how we were going to get there, but I sort of thought that we had something that was worth chasing.”
Jack Barakat was quite the troublemaker in high school. “I was kind of the kid that always liked attention—I would act out in class, I would wear ridiculous things,” he said.
Zack Merrick was quiet, avid skateboarder and athlete. He felt in high school he was "always searching for something."
"You don't have to look for the answer; the answer will fall into place for you," Merrick said. "The answer might be in front of you, and you might not even know it." —Sarah Force

The White House is pouring it on a little thick regarding DC Circuit Court Chief Judge Merrick Garland, who has been nominated to replace late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. President Obama‘s messaging around Judge Garland, a moderate consensus pick who has been kept on deck as a guy who might be able to get through a Republican Senate, is the bestest, most qualified person for the job anyway, period, exclamation point.
While Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have both urged the Senate to take up Garland’s nomination, it remains possible that Scalia’s vacancy will persist into the next administration, which, for Democrats, could also mean a Democratic Senate. At Friday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked if President Obama would advise Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, if they were to win the presidency, to appoint Merrick. Earnest’s response was as predictable as it was unbelievable:
I think the President would wholeheartedly recommend that the next president, Democrat or Republican, give careful consideration to Chief Judge Garland as the person to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court.
rolandNow, I get why he thought he had to say that, but this is me making Roland Martin-face at Josh Earnest right now. You mean to tell me that Barack Obama, after Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders (probably Hillary) wins the presidency and flips the Senate, is going to tell them to go ahead and nominate a 63 year-old white dude with a conservative enough record that Orrin Hatch likes him, instead of a younger, more progressive, more diverse pick that a Democratically-held Senate can ram down the GOP’s throat after they stonewalled Obama for a year?
Of course not, but that’s what the messaging has to be, that Judge Garland is the love child of Jesus and Solomon, and Republicans are insane for not confirming him. Which they are, because Garland is a huge political gift for them.
This was just some off-the-cuff boilerplate, though, and doesn’t preclude the White House from making its next move, which ought to be to pressure Senate Republicans to schedule a vote on Judge Garland before the Republican convention in July. Once they have a clearer picture of who the choices for next president are, you might find them begging to confirm Garland.

Also, I am undergraduate student at the University of California-Davis (UC DAVIS) and I am majoring in Pharmaceutical Chemistry B.S and Chicana/o Studies. I am in my senior year in this university and will be finishing up in Winter Quarter 2016. Event though, I have been a positive person my husband was dishonest and betrayed me.
I have been married for 12 years in a half and I recently discovered that my husband cheated on me since April 24th. This has been the first betrayal since we have been married. After I found his phone, he took it from my hands and left to work. When he came back he had deleted the texts. I recovered them by using Dr. Fone for Android cells phones so I got all the details of the affair from that. He was not talking at all. My husband cheated on me every weekend with a woman at his job since April and I discovered it on June 21st through his text messages on his cell phone. He paid for hotels, breakfast, lunch, and bought beer. He was abusing marijuana and beer daily for years.
First off, I wanted a divorce but I decided to give him a second chance but I am not sure. Plus, I recently found that I am 10 weeks pregnant and was looking into getting an abortion but my husband does not want me to.
I am very confused if I should stay with him or leave him. For me, I feel so much pain and I have been faithful to him. His affair has effected my mental health. He has been cheating on me for a long time and his texts messages said that he wanted this women to be his wife and this hurts. He says he was playing with her because he wanted sex since I was not giving that to him. I think this is unacceptable and I do not believe it is my fault he cheated. He stopped smoking weed and I told him to quit his job where she worked. The affair is over now . I feel that he is with me only because of my girls since he would tell her that he couldn't leave me because I was going to take my girls from him when he was in an affair with her. This is illogical for me to take his kids. He says he loves me and wants to be with me but I am so confused. I do not know if he fell in love with her.
Can you please give me some advice on my relationship? What is your perspective? Should I stay or leave since I am going to continue my education? I fear that he will cheat on me again in the future since I plan on applying to medical school in 2016. I just feel so trapped in this relationship and I do not know if it is worth saving or moving on with my life. I want to let this go but I cannot and I am in need of some advice. I argued with him about it every day and its effecting my mind. Do you have any advice for a mother and children in a separation of this type? How do you talk about this affair and possibly separation with your children?

Question: I want to know if I'm in the right path or in a path at all. I am turning 23 in 3 days. I am very mentally ill. My mental illness comes from sexual, verbal, physical , and emotional abuse. I have been treated in such a way my whole life that my body and mind are too afraid to function. It's very hard for me to do basic things like eating, cleaning up, doing chores, being in a calm state, and I can't act "normal". I am very sensitive to everything around me, I'm very afraid.
My mother was 17 when she had me. She crossed the border over to the United States from Mexico right before I was born. The first 6 or 7 years of my life were extremely traumatic, my mom would leave me with so many fucked up people. It was very hard for her to be in another country with no support. She tried to be with me but she is also very mentally ill. She had to work to take care of me and her 2 younger teenage brothers who were pedophiles. I lived with my uncles a huge part of my life since they were the babysitters of their older sisters kids and they didn't want to get jobs. It's very confusing to explain to people but the basic picture is that I have been around extreme child sexual abuse from family and strangers since I was in diapers.
When i was around 6 or 7 I started living with my mom on a regular basis, with out her leaving for months. I lived with her, my grandmother, and only one of my pedophile uncles, the other one left with the other sister and her kids. My mom was very abusive to me. She treated me like a dog and only talked to me when she wanted me to do something or if she was bored and wanted to treat me like a doll. My mother didn't hug, kiss me or tell me that she loved me. She would call me her servant and humiliate me regularly. When I was 9 my mom had a child, which I love so much, a year later she had another child, which I love so much, and around 2 years later she had another child which I love so much. My mother basically still wasnt there for us, she would be out partying, working, yelling, or sleeping most of the time. So my grandma and I took care of my three sisters. But my grandma also had to take care of my uncle since he didn't do anything.
I had blocked out of my mind all the things I had seen in the beginning of my life. When I was around 13 or 15 I started vaguely remembering a few things about the beginning of my life. When I was around 14 my cousins started talking about the rapes and abuse received from my uncles. So my mom and her sister were aware but in denial at the same time about my uncles behavior. Either way they tried to be more "careful" about leaving the kids alone with the uncles. My uncle still lived with us but we were more "careful". Eventually my uncle stopped living with us because my mom kept hearing more stories about him but my grandmother would let him in when my mom wasn't around.
One day my grandma left to Mexico when I was around 16 so my uncle stopped coming around. When I was 17 I left the home to live with a boyfriend. He was abusive, then when I was around 19 or 20 I lived with another boyfriend who was also very abusive. Keep in mind that during this time I graduated high school, tried to go to the junior college and by the time I lived with that second boyfriend I dropped out and was homeless with him. I met a 26 year old guy named … that was also a homeless youth before and had done great work in this program for about a year. We started to get to know each other and we had a very strong connection.
But slowly I started seeing things that bothered me but I didn't know if I was just crazy from all the crap I lived through. Slowly we started doing sexual things and he would talk as if we were temporary lovers. Which of coarse bothered me. But in my mind I was thinking, like always, that I'm a piece of shit and no good guy would want to be with something as damaged and shitty as me.
We were together for like 5 months and were living together for almost a month. Around this time He tells me that he just told his therapist about us. It turns out he was sexually attracted to his therapist and never told her about us. This was a big deal because he was so important to me. I told everyone about him and he had claimed I was as important to him.
I soon realized that … wasn't really attracted to me. I had been sick for a longtime and have had a eating disorder so I was very skinny.
We are staying at my moms right now. We want to have a safe and stable place to live at. So we can take some time to really have a chance to grow and do the things we want to do.
Is it possible for us to be healthy? And if so what are the steps needed. We are both mentally ill and I am so mentally ill to the point where I can't function. I want my sisters to be safe. I don't know what to do with this life. It's so hard for me to want to live.
