Gun laws and policy vary considerably around the world.
It is illegal in Kenya to own any type of firearm without a valid gun ownership licence as spelled out under the Firearms Act (Cap. 114) Laws of Kenya. Anyone who is 12 years or older can apply to privately own a gun. However, such persons must provide in writing to the Chief Licensing Officer (CLO) stating genuine reason(s) for their need to privately own and carry a firearm. It remains at the discretion of the CLO to make a decision to award, deny or revoke a gun ownership licence based on the reason(s) given.
Anyone seeking to hold a gun licence must pass the most stringent of background checks that probes into their past and present criminal, mental health and well as domestic violence records. Failure to pass one of these checks automatically bars one from being permitted to own a firearm. These checks are regularly repeated and must be continually passed for anyone to continue holding the gun licence. Failure to pass any of these checks at any stage, means an automatic and immediate revocation of the issued licence. Once licensed to own a gun, no permit is required in order to carry around a concealed firearm.
Gun control (or regulation of firearms) refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms in order to control crime and reduce the harmful effects of violence. They vary greatly around the world. Some countries, such as the United Kingdom, have very strict limits on gun possession while others, like the United States, have relatively few restrictions (although policies vary from state to state).
Proponents of gun control generally argue that widespread gun ownership increases the danger of gun-related crime, suicide, and accidental injury. Opponents argue that gun control does not reduce such injuries and violates individual liberties.
Gun control refers to domestic regulation of firearm manufacture, trade, possession, use, and transport, specifically with regard to the class of weapons referred to as small arms (revolvers and self-loading pistols, rifles and carbines, assault rifles, submachine guns and light machine guns).
Gun law most often refers to a law dealing with gun control.
Gun Law may also refer to:
The boys in blue are on the streets tonight
Guns in holsters, they feel alright
Hiding behind badges, not like normal men
No jury will convict the bastards, no-one will condemn
[Chorus:]
Gun Law, Gun Law, in this land
Police with shooters in their hands
Gun law, Gun law, in this town
Stop 'em now before they shoot you down...
If the police come after you and me
They don't have to worry, they'll go free
Innocents lie dying, bodies filled with lead
