Morreu na noite de sexta-feira a actriz Tônia Carrero, que actuou em várias peças de teatro e novelas da Rede Globo, segundo o site "meionorte".
Rodeada de intelectuais, Tônia Carrero opinava em todos os assuntos que dominavam a mesa naquela noite no Degrau, tradicional reduto boémio do Leblon. Encantado com tanta beleza e surpreso com a eloquência, Rubem Braga resumiu o fascínio provocado pela actriz.
Nasceu no Rio de Janeiro, filha de Hermenegildo Portocarrero, militar, e de Zilda de Farias. Por parte paterna era descendente do barão Hermenegildo de Albuquerque Porto Carrero.
Apesar de licenciada em educação física, a formação de Tônia como actriz foi obtida em cursos em Paris, quando já era casada com o artista plástico Carlos Arthur Thiré, pai do actor e diretor Cecil Thiré. Ao regressar de França, protagonizou o filme "Querida Susana". Foi a estrela da Companhia Cinematográfica Vera Cruz, tendo actuado em diversos filmes.
O tempo em que as apresentações teatrais eram seguidas por incursões a bares e restaurantes passou, mas a admiração por Tônia permanece intacta. Aos 92 anos, ela vivia em Ipanema com o único filho, Cecil Thiré, e o afilhado, Leonardo Thierry. A família numerosa, quatro netos e cinco bisnetos, reúnia-se para almoçar todas as sexta-feira no apartamento da actriz. Uma vez ou outra, em datas comemorativas, Tônia abria espaço para uma paixão antiga: o champanhe. Os olhos azuis e os cabelos louros anelados já não são vistos com muita frequência nas ruas do mesmo bairro onde morou quando se casou pela primeira vez, com Carlos Thiré. Quando sai de casa, no entanto, a relação com as pessoas é a mesma. "Ela sempre adorou ser reconhecida nas ruas. É um dos seus prazeres", afirmou o filho à Globo
A estreia em teatro foi no Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia (TBC) em São Paulo, com a peça Um Deus Dormiu Lá em Casa, onde teve como parceiro o ator Paulo Autran. Após a passagem pelo TBC formou, com seu marido à época, o italiano Adolfo Celi e com o amigo Paulo Autran, a Companhia Celi-Autran-Carrero que, nos anos 50 e 60 revolucionou a cena do teatro brasileiro ao constituir um repertório com peças de autores clássicos, como Shakespeare e Carlo Goldoni, e de vanguarda, como Sartre.
Tônia despediu-se dos palcos em 2007, quando foi encenada pelo neto Carlos Thiré na temporada de "Um barco para o sonho" no Teatro Maison de France.
No cinema, Tônia fez sucessos da Vera Cruz, como ''Tico-tico no fubá'', e em produções mais recentes, como o "Chega de saudade". A próxima produção audiovisual envolvendo a actriz não a teria no elenco, mas na plateia. As actrizes Beatriz Napolitani e Joana Seibel finalizam o texto de uma peça em homenagem a Tônia. A produção será dirigida por Carlos Thiré.
"Tônia tem tudo: inteligência, educação e cultura. É uma boa amiga e uma mulher encantadora. A primeira vez em que a vi no palco, pensei: 'essa mulher parece uma deusa grega' referiu a actriz Bibi Ferreira.
Na televisão, um dos seus personagens mais marcantes foi a sofisticada e encantadora Stella Fraga Simpson em "Água Viva" (1980), deGilberto Braga. Tônia viria a trabalhar novamente com o autor, em 1983, na novela "Louco Amor", dessa vez interpretando a não menos charmosa e chique Mouriel. Tanto em "Água Viva" como em "Louco Amor", Tônia perdeu o papel da vilã para Beatriz Segall eTereza Rachel, respectivamente.
Mesmo assim os dois personagens que interpretou foram um sucesso.

Estrela do cinema e da TV, além de ter uma ampla carreira no teatro, Tônia Carrero é considerada uma das atrizes mais consagradas do Brasil.
Sua última atuação foi no filme Chega de Saudade no ano de 2007. Na TV, seu último trabalho foi na novela “Senhora do Destino”.
Nascida no dia 23 de agosto de 1922, Maria Antonietta de Farias Portocarrero está com 94 anos. Houve um boato na internet, dando conta que ela havia falecido em 2015. Seu sobrinho, Leonardo Thierry, desmentiu a notícia falsa que movimentou as redes sociais na época.
Atualmente, ela sofre de uma doença chamada hidrocefalia oculta, que é um acúmulo de líquido causando pressão interna no cérebro, o que acabou comprometendo a fala e os movimentos da atriz. Infelizmente a doença não tem cura. Ela vive com os cuidados de sua família em um apartamento na Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro.
Um registro recente da atriz aconteceu no final do ano passado, quando ela foi internada na Clínica São Vicente, na Zona Sul do Rio, com pneumonia e teve alta depois de 9 dias. Ela é mãe do ator Cecil Thiré, que já trabalhou na Globo, e passou uma época na Record, fazendo novelas como Vidas opostas, Cidadão Brasileiro, Poder Paralelo dentre outras...

O diretor Ron Daniels volta ao Festival de Curitiba com duas novas montagens de Shakespeare: Macbeth e Medida Por Medida. E o Programa Câmera Mundi teve o grande prazer de entrevistar a atriz Luisa Thiré sobre os dois espetáculos, que embora sejam de gêneros diferentes, abordam temas comuns como corrupção e dilemas éticos.
Luisa Pesce Thiré é filha do ator Cecil Thiré, irmã dos atores Miguel Thiré e Carlos Thiré e neta da atriz Tônia Carrero. É casada com o ator e diretor Cadu Fávero, com que fundou e mantém o Teatro Livre, espaço que fica dentro da Fundição Progresso, na Lapa, área central do Rio de Janeiro.
Atriz essencialmente de teatro, atuou nos espetáculos: "O Despertar da Primavera" (1986); "Floresta Amazonica - Sonhos de uma Noite de Verão" (1992); "Passo a Passo no Paço" (1992); "O Boi e o Burro no Caminho de Belém" (2001); "Uma Vida Dupla" (2003); "Aurora da Minha Vida" (2004); "A Farsa" (2005); "O Mágico de OZ - The Dark Side" (2005); "Eu Nunca Disse que Prestava" (2006); "Os Cigarras e Os Formigas" (2006).

A tragédia “Macbeth” e a comédia “Medida por Medida”, de William Shakespeare, ambas com direção e concepção de Ron Daniels, têm 14 atores que encenam os dois espetáculos. Thiago Lacerda e Giulia Gam interpretam Macbeth e Lady Macbeth, respectivamente, em Macbeth; e também vivem o conselheiro moralista Angelo e a Sra. Bem-passada, em “Medida por Medida”. Em “Macbeth”, o mundo está no caos do pós-guerra. O general corajoso Macbeth, ao voltar triunfante da guerra, encontra três criaturas videntes que lhe fazem a seguinte profecia: Macbeth será rei em um futuro próximo. A ambiciosa Lady Macbeth, sua esposa, instiga seu marido a matar Duncan, o atual rei. Quando o crime é descoberto, os filhos de Duncan, Malcolm e Donalbain, sentindo-se ameaçados, resolvem fugir e Macbeth é coroado.
Já em “Medida por Medida”, o mundo se transformou em um bordel. Alarmado com a imoralidade e a corrupção na cidade, o Duque resolve reintroduzir uma antiga lei que pune todo e qualquer abuso sexual com a morte. Mas, ele deixa que a lei seja implementada por seu vice, Ângelo, a quem transfere o poder por um período, enquanto ele se disfarça de frei para observar tudo à distância.

Familiares de Tônia Carrero se reuniram para comemorar o Natal e postaram no Facebook imagens da atriz. Nas imagens, Tônia (94 anos) aparece sentada em uma poltrona, rodeada pelos familiares.
Sem aparecer nas telinhas desde 2004, quando fez uma participação na novela Senhora do Destino, na Globo, a atriz sofre de uma doença denominada hidrocefalia oculta.
Em declaração ao jornal Extra, o ator Cecil Thiré, filho único de Tônia, contou que o quadro da mãe é “estável” mas que, devido a doença, “ela não se comunica mais” e nem consegue “andar normalmente”.
O ator e diretor Leonardo Thierry, sobrinho de Tônia, disse ao jornal que Tônia herdou a doença da mãe e que ela foi operada pela primeira vez no ano 2000.
Depois disso, ela atuou com grande sucesso em três peças, um filme (pelo qual ganhou um prêmio internacional) e uma boa participação na Globo”, informou.

O diretor Ron Daniels volta ao Festival de Curitiba com duas novas montagens de Shakespeare: Macbeth e Medida Por Medida. E o Programa Câmera Mundi teve o grande prazer de entrevistar a atriz Luisa Thiré sobre os dois espetáculos, que embora sejam de gêneros diferentes, abordam temas comuns como corrupção e dilemas éticos. Luisa Pesce Thiré é filha do ator Cecil Thiré, irmã dos atores Miguel Thiré e Carlos Thiré e neta da atriz Tônia Carrero. É casada com o ator e diretor Cadu Fávero, com que fundou e mantém o Teatro Livre, espaço que fica dentro da Fundição Progresso, na Lapa, área central do Rio de Janeiro. A estreia em teatro foi no Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia (TBC) em São Paulo, com a peça Um Deus Dormiu Lá em Casa, onde teve como parceiro o ator Paulo Autran. Após a passagem pelo TBC formou, com seu marido à época, o italiano Adolfo Celi e com o amigo Paulo Autran, a Companhia Celi-Autran-Carrero que, nos anos 50 e 60 revolucionou a cena do teatro brasileiro ao constituir um repertório com peças de autores clássicos, como Shakespeare e Carlo Goldoni, e de vanguarda, como Sartre.
Tônia despediu-se dos palcos em 2007, quando foi encenada pelo neto Carlos Thiré na temporada de "Um barco para o sonho" no Teatro Maison de France.
No cinema, Tônia fez sucessos da Vera Cruz, como ''Tico-tico no fubá'', e em produções mais recentes, como o "Chega de saudade". A próxima produção audiovisual envolvendo a actriz não a teria no elenco, mas na plateia. As actrizes Beatriz Napolitani e Joana Seibel finalizam o texto de uma peça em homenagem a Tônia. A produção será dirigida por Carlos Thiré.

Estrela do cinema e da TV, além de ter uma ampla carreira no teatro, Tônia Carrero é considerada uma das atrizes mais consagradas do Brasil.
Sua última atuação foi no filme Chega de Saudade no ano de 2007. Na TV, seu último trabalho foi na novela “Senhora do Destino”.
Nascida no dia 23 de agosto de 1922, Maria Antonietta de Farias Portocarrero está com 94 anos. Houve um boato na internet, dando conta que ela havia falecido em 2015. Seu sobrinho, Leonardo Thierry, desmentiu a notícia falsa que movimentou as redes sociais na época.
Atualmente, ela sofre de uma doença chamada hidrocefalia oculta, que é um acúmulo de líquido causando pressão interna no cérebro, o que acabou comprometendo a fala e os movimentos da atriz. Infelizmente a doença não tem cura. Ela vive com os cuidados de sua família em um apartamento na Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro.
Um registro recente da atriz aconteceu no final do ano passado, quando ela foi internada na Clínica São Vicente, na Zona Sul do Rio, com pneumonia e teve alta depois de 9 dias. E o Programa Câmera Mundi teve o grande prazer de entrevistar a atriz Luisa Thiré sobre os dois espetáculos, que embora sejam de gêneros diferentes, abordam temas comuns como corrupção e dilemas éticos.
Luisa Pesce Thiré é filha do ator Cecil Thiré, irmã dos atores Miguel Thiré e Carlos Thiré e neta da atriz Tônia Carrero. É casada com o ator e diretor Cadu Fávero, com que fundou e mantém o Teatro Livre, espaço que fica dentro da Fundição Progresso, na Lapa, área central do Rio de Janeiro.

Thiago Lacerda e Giulia Gam interpretam Macbeth e Lady Macbeth, respectivamente, em Macbeth; e também vivem o conselheiro moralista Angelo e a Sra. Bem-passada, em “Medida por Medida”. Além de Thiago e Giulia, o elenco conta com Ana Kutner, André Hendges, Fábio Takeo, Felipe Martins, Lourival Prudêncio, Lui Vizotto, Luisa Thiré, Marco Antônio Pâmio, Marcos Suchara, Rafael Losso, Stella de Paula e Sylvio Zilber.
Em “Macbeth”, o mundo está no caos do pós-guerra. O general corajoso Macbeth, ao voltar triunfante da guerra, encontra três criaturas videntes que lhe fazem a seguinte profecia: Macbeth será rei em um futuro próximo. A ambiciosa Lady Macbeth, sua esposa, instiga seu marido a matar Duncan, o atual rei. Quando o crime é descoberto, os filhos de Duncan, Malcolm e Donalbain, sentindo-se ameaçados, resolvem fugir e Macbeth é coroado.
Já em “Medida por Medida”, o mundo se transformou em um bordel. Alarmado com a imoralidade e a corrupção na cidade, o Duque resolve reintroduzir uma antiga lei que pune todo e qualquer abuso sexual com a morte. Mas, ele deixa que a lei seja implementada por seu vice, Ângelo, a quem transfere o poder por um período, enquanto ele se disfarça de frei para observar tudo à distância.

Familiares de Tônia Carrero se reuniram para comemorar o Natal e postaram no Facebook imagens da atriz. Nas imagens, Tônia (94 anos) aparece sentada em uma poltrona, rodeada pelos familiares.
Sem aparecer nas telinhas desde 2004, quando fez uma participação na novela Senhora do Destino, na Globo, a atriz sofre de uma doença denominada hidrocefalia oculta.
Em declaração ao jornal Extra, o ator Cecil Thiré, filho único de Tônia, contou que o quadro da mãe é “estável” mas que, devido a doença, “ela não se comunica mais” e nem consegue “andar normalmente”.
O ator e diretor Leonardo Thierry, sobrinho de Tônia, disse ao jornal que Tônia herdou a doença da mãe e que ela foi operada pela primeira vez no ano 2000.
Depois disso, ela atuou com grande sucesso em três peças, um filme (pelo qual ganhou um prêmio internacional) e uma boa participação na Globo”, informou.

Bienvenido and welcome to Murcia! This region is sandwiched between Valencia and Andalusia, and has a ton of awesome stuff to do. So I'm going to show you my top ten favorite things to do in Murcia. Come on, let's go!
1) Beaches
With over 250km of coast, there are all kinds of amazing beaches and costal scenery, to be enjoyed year round. Thanks to 300 days of sun a year and an average temperature of 19 degrees Celcius.
2) Adventure
In the region of Murcia, there is no shortage of adventure activities. From hiking in the rugged mountains, to all along the picturesque coast………..Cycling enthusiasts, will be happy to hear there is also plenty of terrain for them to explore, too. A 150 peaks above 1000m makes it an ideal location for all types of adventure sports.
3) Gastronomy
Like the rest of Spain, Murcia is a food lovers paradise. Serving all the typical spanish dishes, as well as some locally inspired cuisine. Excellent choices for both land and sea fare, however, they are especially known for their produce
4) Vino
You have to wash down that delicious food with something, it might as well be some locally produced wines. There are three distinct wine regions, each producing several varietals worth savoring. So fill your glass and spend sometime with some good friends.
5) City life
If you are looking for something a lit bit more upbeat, head to the cities of Murcia and Cartagena, which make up the only two metropolitan areas in the province. Murcia is found inland and has a population of around half a million….while Cartagena is found along the coast with nearly a quarter million inhabitants. Both are great places to visit museums, cafes, markets, shops and just admire the architexture.
6) nature
The autonomous community of Murcia is blessed with some excellent and diverse natural settings. If you like green, head to the dense forests of Sierra Espuña, or if you want to see some crazy wind erosion go to Bolnuevo, pink salt flats and flamingos can be seen at Salinas de San Pedro, and one of my favorites is the Ricote Valley which has the look of an oasis, tucked between the desert and the mountains.
7) History & Culture
All throughout the region you will find remnants of past civilizations. Dating back more than 3000 years. This can be observed by visiting the many cathedrals and archeological sites. For a more cultural experience I recommend visiting some small towns. Ojós, Blanca, and Caravaca de la Cruz just to name a few.
8) Nautical sports (Kayaking, fishing, boating)
With all that coastline, there is plenty of adventure to be had here too. Kayaking, Swimming, fishing, scuba diving and sailing can be enjoyed all year round. So don’t forget your swimsuit.
9) Thermal Spas
One of the most leisurely activities to do in the region, is visit a thermal spa. I had the pleasure of experiencing the historic Balneario de Archena wellness facility. The minerals in the water have a therapeutic effect, making it A great place to relax and unwind, after a few days of exploring.
10) Golf
If you like to swing the clubs, the region of Murcia is one of the best locations in all of Europe. Great weather and A total of 22 golf courses are here waiting for you.

One of the best ways to access Thai culture is through a 'Monk chat' session in a local wat (temple) in Chiang Mai, where you get the opportunity to quiz the dignified saffron-robed monks about anything you like. And in the early morning, all over the country, the monks leave the sanctuary of their wats to receive alms from the people, be it in a dusty village or on crowded city streets. Buddhism is a way of life here and the Thais are also strong supporters of their monarchy.
And don't forget the food! A culinary adventure awaits with tempting morsels on virtually every street corner, from traditional Royal-project run restaurants to delicious piping hot street food. Eating is as much a part of the culture here as anything else and definitely the key to local hearts. If you're lucky enough to catch a local festival, it will probably be dominated by food.
The most welcoming of countries, despite being inundated with tourists and expats, it's the gentle hospitality of local people that is the strongest memory of Thailand for many visitors. And what a wonderful memory it makes.

The beautiful leafy setting in Chiang Mai is ideal, but there are similar places all over the country; make enquiries at local temples.
Chiang Dao
Thailand's highest limestone mountain can be found here amidst a jungle oasis with an excellent selection of local accommodation. A mystical warren of caves extending some 14km (8.7 miles) can be explored, and riding a bicycle is a relaxing way to explore the area around Chiang Dao.
Chiang Mai - Old City
The temple-studded old city of Chiang Mai with its leafy residential sois, towering city gates and crumbling walls is a highlight of the north. Exploration is best by bicycle with traffic surprisingly subdued in the city walls and there are plenty of places to stop for refreshment when escaping the heat of the day.
Doi Inthanon
Escape to the cooling heights of Thailand's highest peak, where jungle walks, bird watching and simply shaking the heat of the simmering plains from your back awaits. There are good roads in the park making it easy to get around and waterfalls to splash about in.
Elephant Nature Park
Visiting an elephant sanctuary can be a wonderful experience especially if you stick to those, like this nature park, which genuinely care for the animals instead of just making them do ridiculous antics. Visitors can help wash and care for the elephants here and no riding is allowed.
JEATH War Museum
The moving JEATH War Museum (JEATH representing the first letter of Japan, England, America, Australia, Thailand and Holland, the countries who lost soldiers in the region) is located in the provincial capital, Kanchanaburi and features photographs and various other memorabilia from World War II.
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
One of northern Thailand's most sacred temples, Wat Suthep is perched high in the mountains overlooking the steamy metropolis of Chiang Mai below. As well as offering astounding views the temple, established in the 14th century, has a wonderful collection on Lanna Art and architecture.
Bangkok's Siam Ocean World
Dive with the sharks in the aquarium at Bangkok's Siam Ocean World (www.siamoceanworld.co.th), and live to tell the tale. There's a daily feeding of sharks and penguins and the deep reef zone is a fascinating glimpse into a magical underwater world.

The airport is 10km outside Dublin and is the only international airport serving the city. From here, your choices for transport to the centre are bus or a taxi, as there’s no train station at the airport.
Dublin airport’s Aircoach will take you to various locations across the city, so make sure you know which stop is nearest your hotel.
Dublin is compact, which means if you’re staying in the city centre, you can pretty much walk to everything. However, if you want to get around quickly, hop on a tram. The Luas is Dublin’s tram system; there are two lines, red and green. And the walk from the end of the green line to the red line is about 15 minutes. Don’t forget to always tap in and tap out, otherwise you’ll get charged the maximum possible fare.
If you plan on making multiple journeys, we recommend getting a Leap Card. It’s Dublin’s public transport top-up smart card and you can get them at the airport or at local shops, wherever you see the sign.
Dublin is bisected by the River LIffey, which runs across the city. There used to be a pronounced cultural divide, with the poor living in the North and the South being home to the upper and middle classes. Today, that’s not the case and Dublin can be divided into some distinct districts…
The Medieval district is the oldest part of Dublin. It’s here that you can find Dublin Castle, Christ Church and St.Patrick’s Cathedral.
The Georgian District starts at St.Stephen’s Green and Trinity College and continues up to the canal. Dublin’s Docklands is where lots of the world’s biggest tech companies have offices. The Cultural District is where you’ll find Temple Bar. This area is home to pubs, clubs, markets and Dublin’s most energetic nightlife.
A word of warning about the weather in Dublin - it’s late June and, as you can see, the weather is glorious… If you’re a duck! But, seriously, the weather in Dublin constantly changes. During the time in the city, we’d often have warm sun, torrential rain and overcast skies; all on the same day. Our advice is to be prepared and pack a light waterproof or small umbrella.
If there’s one thing that Dublin and Ireland do better than anyone else in the world, it’s their seafood, especially their oysters.
One place we definitely recommend you go is Klaw. It’s a tiny seafood restaurant on Crown Alley, just off Temple Bar Square. It’ll probably be full when you arrive so you may have to wait outside with a pint of Guinness but it’s worth it, we promise.
Also, if you quote ‘Holiday Extras’ when you arrive, they’ll give you a free Oyster :)
When it comes to drink, Guinness is obviously what Dublin is best known for, and for good reason. Ireland’s most famous export definitely tastes better in its home city. They say it’s in the water, but what we know is that you can’t come to Dublin without at least trying it just once…or twice…three times…you get the idea!
We recommend trying out the Porterhouse. It’s the city’s original craft beer pub and they’ve been serving for 20 years. I’ve gone for a Dublin pale ale, which is €5 and, according to this, is an Irish-style pale ale with an orange, lemon and lime hop character…
This Guinness in Temple Bar was €5.95.
This pub meal cost €13.50.
This coffee cost €2.50.
A Temple Bar hotel cost roughly €170 per night.
Quick tip - if at the chip and PIN machine you get the choice to use Pounds or Euros, always choose Euros. Shops will give you a worse exchange rate than your bank will.

Peru – a land of extremes and intrigue – principally known for being home to the most important archaeological site in all of the Americas, offers in reality so much more. Its landscapes range from high Andean peaks, to sultry Amazon rainforests, from high altitude deserts and wild windswept coasts. Of course its great to travel with the Incas from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, but its also possible to get off the beaten track, to explore remote ruins of the cloud warriors in the north, or afro-Peruvian beats along the pacific coast. Most of all it’s a diverse country that offers something for everyone. But for many, a trip to Peru will begin in Cusco.
As the ancient Inca capital, and the political power base in colonial times, Cusco has its fair share of sites. Sitting in a narrow valley surrounded by pine-covered hills, it’s a stunning place with enough cathedrals, churches, museums, galleries, cafes and shops to keep the modern traveller entertained for a week. Of course with one of the world’s foremost tourist attractions lying just up the road, most of the time Cusco is busy with locals and travellers alike, but don’t let that put you off; like many other similar locations, Cusco is popular for a reason… it’s simply a beautiful place to hang out.
As the traditional thoroughfare between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the lush agricultural Sacred Valley is littered with impressive Inca ruins. Probably the most famous are the sites of Pisac – where the famous terraces rise over a thousand feet from the valley floor to the mountaintop – and at Ullataytambo. Here again the site overs a great insight into the life of the Inca nation and some great views of the Sacred Valley. There are also some pretty towns and villages to explore; you can hike, horse ride, mountain bike or even paraglide; and you can stay in some pretty special accommodation.
But of course most people travelling this way have one goal in mind, and that’s to reach the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Pichu. There are many ways to get to the sacred Inca site: you can trek along the Inca Trail, or walk staying at beautiful mountain lodges, or you can horse ride, pretty much all the way there. Wild Frontiers offers a horse riding trip through the region.
There are plenty of trains to take you to Machu Picchu, but this is the most special. The Hiram Bingham service, operated by the Belmond Orient Express, offers a great way to climb through the Andean foothills to Machu Picchu, presenting great views – either from your seat of the observation car – delicious dining and champagne! Alighting at Aguas Calientes, buses then take us the last part of the journey to the actual site itself.
Although the exact purpose and function of Machu Picchu is still a matter of conjecture, there’s no denying that for the Incas this awe-inspiring ancient city must have been a very important ceremonial site. The quality of the buildings, of the intricate terracing, and the lofty position of the citadel itself, all point towards a hugely important cultural centre. Interestingly, it was never revealed to the Spanish invaders, and was only discovered in the early 20th century when American historian, Hiram Bingham, chanced upon it while searching for the lost city of Vilcabamba. Today it undoubtedly forms the highlight for most peoples’ trips to Peru.
For many that is tourism in Peru; but not for us at Wild Frontiers. For us this vast country offers much more. For a start there is the beautiful Lake Titicaca to check out, a giant inland sea, peppered by idyllic rural islands. (Use images from Bolivia) There is the picturesque town of Araquipa, back-dropped by the stunning El Misti volcano, and access point to the spectacular Colca Canyon, where you are pretty much guaranteed to see the mighty Andean condor fly. There are the quite extraordinary Nazca lines to fly above and Peru is one of the best places to visit the Amazon rainforest, where you are likely to stumble upon all manner of exotic animals. And in the country’s rarely visited northern highlands were we run one of our most successful group tours to visit, among other places, the fortress of Kuelap, and the home of the ancient cloud warriors of Chachopyas, and the newly discovered Gocta Falls.
And lastly of course there are the Peruvians themselves, whose colourful culture dates back into the mists of time, and who are as hospitable and friendly as any on the continent.
(245 or 246) For most tourism to Peru will revolve around three places, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and here at Macchu Pichu. But my advice is to remember, as amazing as those places are there’s a lot more travelling in Peru than just that. Come and see for yourself.

(245 or 246) For most tourism to Peru will revolve around three places, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and here at Macchu Pichu. But my advice is to remember, as amazing as those places are there’s a lot more travelling in Peru than just that. Come and see for yourself.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. The US Centers for Disease Control has issued a travel alert suggesting that pregnant women postpone travel to Ecuador, where Zika virus transmission is ongoing. All travellers should protect themselves from mosquito bites. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all travel within the 20km exclusion zone along the border with Colombia except for the official border crossing town of Tulcan in Carchi province. There are a number of active volcanoes in Ecuador. The Cotopaxi volcano has experienced renewed activity in August 2015 and restrictions are in place. Don’t climb the Tungurahua, Reventador, Chiles and Cerro Negro volcanoes.

Ecuador is a country in Northwestern South America, with a Pacific Ocean coastline, lying on the Equator between Colombia, to the northeast, and Peru, to the south and east.
Cotopaxi is the world's highest active volcano. Many cities and sites in Ecuador are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Such cities and best known places are the Galapagos Islands, and the city of Cuenca.
Ecuador is the most biodiverse country in the world. Ecuador has over one hundred different types of hummingbirds and thousands of orchid varieties. Cuyabeno Wild Life Reserve, Mindo and San Luis de Pambil are all good places to see many types of flora and fauna. The Galapagos Islands are justly famed for their wildlife.
The Cuyabeno Wild Life Reserve is probably the best place to see the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador, even though there are other national parks which are also interesting (such as the Yasuni National Park). It's a place of high biodiversity and nature lovers should feel in paradise. That's a good way to discover the indigenous communities of Ecuador and to eventually meet a local shaman. It's necessary to get to Lago Agrio to reach the reserve. Private transportation is made possible by the local accommodation, which is provided by eco-lodges.
The beaches in Ecuador are amazing, including: Salinas, Bahia de Caraquez, Manta, Crucita, San Jacinto, and San Clemente. They offer very inexpensive hotel accommodations, great food and friendly people. But there are also very upmarket establishments as well.

The "Republic of the Ecuador" was one of three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others being Colombia and Venezuela). Between 1904 and 1942, Ecuador lost territories in a series of conflicts with its neighbors. A border war with Peru that flared in 1995 was resolved in 1999.
Climate
=======
Ecuador has many climate zones, from tropical along coast to cooler and dryer inland at higher elevations; tropical in Amazonian jungle lowlands. Ecuador is unusual in that one can choose any climate one wishes by where in the country one travels to. Lying on the equator means there is no summer or winter; however, there are typically wetter and drier seasons. The 'wetter' season is usually between December - June , while the drier season runs from July - November.
Crime

Ecuador has quickly become the safest country in Latin America (South and Central America). Its violent crime rate is half that of most of the United States with the popular cities of Cuenca and Loja being the safest.

Quito - Quito, the capital of Ecuador stands at an altitude of 2,850 m. The city has the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America.
Ambato - The central city of Ecuador. Special celebrations during Carnival time.
Baños- The adventure capital of Ecuador at the foot of an active volcano having small eruptions of ash and lava. Volcano Tungurahua. There are also many hot spring mineral baths as its name would imply.
Cuenca - The third largest city in Ecuador and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site
Guayaquil - Largest city in the country and largest port city
Loja - The oldest colonial city
Manta - Largest coastal city and third largest city in Ecuador. Fastest growing city in Ecuador. Home to the largest port in Ecuador
Otavalo - Small town only two hours north of the capital famous for its Saturday market of indigenous crafts and livestock
Ibarra - Town of 100,000 inhabitants halfway between Quito and the northern border
Riobamba - Starting point of the famous train ride down the Nariz del Diablo and gateway to Mount Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest peak

Baguio is known to be the Summer Capital of the Philippines, primarily because of the cool weather. But I remember growing-up, it was called Salad Bowl of the Philippines because of the variety of vegetables and fruits you can get from the city. Nevertheless, it is one of my favorite places in the Philippines because of it’s different vibe and architecture.
This trip is special because I got the chance to travel (for the first time) with two of my great friends—Janina and Darvin. This is one of the well spent weekends of my life; having them traveling around one of my favorite cities in the Philippines is something that I’ll cherish forever.

Angkor

Angkor, the former capital of the ancient Khmer Empire, is one of the greatest and most spectacular Hindu religious sites in the world. Construction of this elaborate temple complex - built in honour of the god Vishnu - began in AD 879 during the reign of King Suryavarman II and was completed in 1191. It lay concealed for many years, however, until the site was discovered by Frenchman Henri Mahout in 1860. The central complex, Angkor Wat, features an elaborate, unmortared 66-metre (215-foot) central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. Stretching around the outside of the temple complex is an 800m-long (2625ft) bas-relief, the longest in the world. This is Cambodia's most iconic sight, and particularly popular at sunset among tour groups. The temple is so synonymous with the country that it dominates the national flag, and to visit it today is to marvel at the scale of its ambition, built as it was in the 12th century.
Bayon
----------
Another of the most distinctive Angkor temples, Bayon is characterised by a series of colossal stone faces, gazing out serenely in all four directions, as well as some painstakingly detailed bas-reliefs. Bayon was built at a similar time to Angkor Wat.
Bokor Hill Station
--------------------
An abandoned French hill station in the south of the country, Bokor was built originally as a weekend sanctuary for settlers stuck in stifling Phnom Penh. Today, the hotel and casino complex stands as an eerily derelict reminder of days gone by.

Angkor

Angkor, the former capital of the ancient Khmer Empire, is one of the greatest and most spectacular Hindu religious sites in the world. Construction of this elaborate temple complex - built in honour of the god Vishnu - began in AD 879 during the reign of King Suryavarman II and was completed in 1191. It lay concealed for many years, however, until the site was discovered by Frenchman Henri Mahout in 1860. The central complex, Angkor Wat, features an elaborate, unmortared 66-metre (215-foot) central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. Stretching around the outside of the temple complex is an 800m-long (2625ft) bas-relief, the longest in the world. This is Cambodia's most iconic sight, and particularly popular at sunset among tour groups. The temple is so synonymous with the country that it dominates the national flag, and to visit it today is to marvel at the scale of its ambition, built as it was in the 12th century.
Bayon

Another of the most distinctive Angkor temples, Bayon is characterised by a series of colossal stone faces, gazing out serenely in all four directions, as well as some painstakingly detailed bas-reliefs. Bayon was built at a similar time to Angkor Wat.
Bokor Hill Station

An abandoned French hill station in the south of the country, Bokor was built originally as a weekend sanctuary for settlers stuck in stifling Phnom Penh. Today, the hotel and casino complex stands as an eerily derelict reminder of days gone by.
