Irwin may refer to:
"Professor" Irwin Corey (born July 29, 1914) is an American comic, film actor and activist, often billed as "The World's Foremost Authority". He introduced his unscripted, improvisational style of stand-up comedy at the well-known San Francisco club, the hungry i. Lenny Bruce once described Corey as "one of the most brilliant comedians of all time".
Corey was born in 1914 in Brooklyn, New York. Poverty-stricken after his father deserted them, his mother was forced to place him and his five siblings in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York, where Corey remained until his early teens, when he rode in boxcars out to California, and enrolled himself at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. During the Great Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and, while working his way back East, became a featherweight Golden Gloves boxing champion.
Corey supported left-wing politics. "When I tried to join the Communist Party, they called me an anarchist." He has appeared in support of Cuban children, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and the American Communist Party, and was blacklisted in the 1950s, the effects of which he says still linger to this day. (Corey never returned to Late Night with David Letterman after his first appearance in 1982, which he claimed was a result of the blacklist still being in effect.) During the 1960 election, Corey campaigned for president on Hugh Hefner's Playboy ticket. Corey was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show hosted by Johnny Carson during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Irwin Allan Rose (July 16, 1926 – June 2, 2015) was an American biologist. Along with Aaron Ciechanover and Avram Hershko, he was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation.
Rose was born in Brooklyn, New York, into a secular Jewish family, the son of Ella (Greenwald) and Harry Royze, who owned a flooring store. Rose attended Washington State University for one year prior to serving in the Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the war he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1948 and his PhD in biochemistry in 1952, both from the University of Chicago.
Rose served on the faculty of Yale School of Medicine's department of biochemistry from 1954 to 1963. He then joined the Fox Chase Cancer Center in 1963 and stayed there until he retired in 1995. He joined University of Pennsylvania during the 1970s and served as a Professor of Physical Biochemistry. He was a distinguished professor-in-residence in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine at the time his Nobel Prize was announced in 2004.

lRWlN COREY is a product of the night clubs, bistros and radio, where he has been practicing his special brand of surrealistic comedy under the soubriquet "The World's Foremost Authority." He is proud of the fact that he and his five brothers and sisters are alumni of the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum, and that he is the former 112-pound boxing champion of the Civilian Conservation Corps. A minor role in "Pots and Pans," a borscht circuit production, whetted his appetite for the stage. Irwin's night club career began with an appearance at the Village Vanguard and the past master of the non-sequitor has broken records for long runs at the Ruban Bleu, The Cotillion Room, the Copacabana, and Chicago's Palmer House. Hosted by Tracy Gallagher. Executive Producers: Tracy Gallagher & Mark L. Rappaport. Produced by Blue Mango Productions. The Sunset Marquis is my Hotel of the Week: It is where rock n roll royalty stay ... a place where the "who's who" go to get away from groupies. Not only is it a private sanctuary situated on a cul-de-sac with lush gardens, but it is conveniently close to the Sunset Strip music clubs where many of the musicians perform, or got their start. The Sunset Marquis Hotel turns 50...so I had a fun visit to the place where many rock star photo shoots take place..and rock n roll fantasies come true. Check Out This Hotel.
In 2011, Technion and Cornell won the bid to create New York City’s newest university: Cornell Tech, home of the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute. Since then, top young talent have enrolled in the program and created amazing technologies set to change the world. This video, the first in a series, features key Jacobs Institute staff on why the state-of-the-art campus being built on Roosevelt Island will be a game-changer. We also meet several diverse students, who we will follow through their graduation in May 2017. Learn more at www.ats.org/nyc
