"The film is about Sant Eknath. Once Devrishi Narad informs Shri Vishnu of atrocities committed by Mahaant on low caste untouchables. At that time, Narad is told that a devotee by the name of Eknath has already been born in Paithan, the grandson of Chakrapani, who will ensure equality for all. As time passes, Eknath turns out to be precocious and is sent out to Janardhan Swami's Ashram. Years later he returns, weds his childhood friend, Girija and soon visits the holi Char Dhams and sets out to do his fated task much to Mahaant and the Jagirdar Amar's chagrin - who arrest and put him behind bars. An engrossing love story between Aman & Shabnam. Aman is a struggling & talented Urdu poet who is making a mark in the musical world. Shabnam loves his songs & poetry. When Aman & Shabnam meet each other accidently in a stormy night, they fall in love with each other. Aman is appointed as a tutor in Shabnam's pavilion for her sister Ranziah of the recommendation of Aman's friend Shekhar. Aman & Shabnam start romancing each other & plan to marry soon. But Shabnam's father turns up as their nemesis. He insults & expells Aman from their house & further fixes Shabnam's marriage with Aftab Ahmed of Lucknow against her wish. Khan Bahadur (Shabnam's father) sets off for Lucknow with his family. A dejected & devasted Aman also coincidentally arrives at Lucknow in search of his fortune. As a matter of further coincidence, Aman discovers that the friend in whose house he is staying is actually the future spouse of Shabnam. Aman leaves Aftab's residence without notice. Meanwhile Aman's old pals Shabnam & Shamma arrive at lucknow with their father to participate in a Shayari challenge. Shamma is an ardent & secret admires of the lonely Aman. Whatever she does, is dedicated in Aman's memory. Aman begins to pen & compose magnificent Shayaris. He begins to sing on radio programmes. Very quickly Aman carves a niche for himself in the elite world of Lucknow. Shamma & Aman meet each other at Lucknow. Shamma becomnes overjoyed. Aman who is submerged in the painful memory of his lost love for Shamma's does not realise Shamma's unconditional love. Anyway, he becomes the heart and soul of Shamma's father's musical troup. With Aman's voice & shayaris, Shamma's group attains pinnacle of success & popularity. A shattered & imprisoned Shabnam overhears Aman's voice on radio & acknowledges that Aman is still in Lucknow. After an immense effort, Shabnam reaches one of Aman's poetic duels. Shamma faints during the program. Her sickness gives a platform for Shabnam & Aman to meet each other. Khan Bhadur & Aman's friend Shekhar reach the spot searching for the missing Shabnam. At this point Shabnam's mother revolts against the tyranical & dictatorial Khan Bahadur. Even Aftab Ahmed supports Shabnam's mother. Khan Bhadur gives in & the estranged lovers reunite on another rainy night.

"Baiju Bawra is the story of an unknown singer, Baiju, who is on a mission to defeat Tansen in a musical duel to avenge the death of his father. "Phagun" is the tale of a forbidden love of a gypsy and a gent, loving and living together as if there was no tomorrow. . The eternal challenge is taken up by zamindars son Bijon and gypsy chieftains daughter Banani, who defying all social conventions build up a love nest. The cruel hand of fate razes it to the ground, and tears them apart. Gypsy Madal, to whom Banani is betrothed, provokes her father Tincori, who forcibly takes her away to some unknown destination. . The battle between love and convention does not end there. Bijaon in disguise makes his appearance and manages to escape with Banani. Infuriated Madal plunges in their pursuit and in the ensuing fight Bijon loses his memory and Banani too. . unconscious Bijon is picked up by a fabulous princess who taking of Fate, once again unites Bijon and Banani, and ther e springs up a violent drama of triangular love. The princess viciously plans to trap her rival Banani in the claws of death.

Bharat Bhushan (1920–1992) was an Indian bollywood actor, scriptwriter and producer, who is best remembered for playing Baiju Bawra in the 1952 film of the same name. He was born in Meerut, and brought up in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
His father, Raibahadur Motilal, was the government pleader of Meerut. His mother died when he was two years old. His elder brother was film producer R.Chandra, who also owned the Ideal Studio at Lucknow. Both the brothers left for Aligarh to stay with their grandfather there after their mothers death. He did his studies and took a Graduate degree from Aligarh. After this he took to acting against his father's wishes. He first went to Calcutta to join cinema and later established himself in Bombay. He married from a prominent family in Lucknow, Zamindar Raibahadur Budha Prakash's daughter Sharadha. They had two daughters, Anuradha and Aparijitha. Anuradha had polio associated complications. His wife Sharadha died of labour complications after delivering their second child in the early 60s, soon after the film Barsaat ki raat. Then, in 1967, he married actress Ratna, his co-star in the movie Barsaat Ki Raat.

An engrossing love story between Aman & Shabnam. Aman is a struggling & talented Urdu poet who is making a mark in the musical world. Shabnam loves his songs & poetry. When Aman & Shabnam meet each other accidently in a stormy night, they fall in love with each other. Aman is appointed as a tutor in Shabnam's pavilion for her sister Ranziah of the recommendation of Aman's friend Shekhar. Aman & Shabnam start romancing each other & plan to marry soon. But Shabnam's father turns up as their nemesis. He insults & expells Aman from their house & further fixes Shabnam's marriage with Aftab Ahmed of Lucknow against her wish. Khan Bahadur (Shabnam's father) sets off for Lucknow with his family. A dejected & devasted Aman also coincidentally arrives at Lucknow in search of his fortune. As a matter of further coincidence, Aman discovers that the friend in whose house he is staying is actually the future spouse of Shabnam. Aman leaves Aftab's residence without notice. Meanwhile Aman's old pals Shabnam & Shamma arrive at lucknow with their father to participate in a Shayari challenge. Shamma is an ardent & secret admires of the lonely Aman. Whatever she does, is dedicated in Aman's memory. Aman begins to pen & compose magnificent Shayaris. He begins to sing on radio programmes. Very quickly Aman carves a niche for himself in the elite world of Lucknow. Shamma & Aman meet each other at Lucknow. Shamma becomnes overjoyed. Aman who is submerged in the painful memory of his lost love for Shamma's does not realise Shamma's unconditional love. Anyway, he becomes the heart and soul of Shamma's father's musical troup. With Aman's voice & shayaris, Shamma's group attains pinnacle of success & popularity. A shattered & imprisoned Shabnam overhears Aman's voice on radio & acknowledges that Aman is still in Lucknow. After an immense effort, Shabnam reaches one of Aman's poetic duels. Shamma faints during the program. Her sickness gives a platform for Shabnam & Aman to meet each other. As time passes, Eknath turns out to be precocious and is sent out to Janardhan Swami's Ashram. Years later he returns, weds his childhood friend, Girija and soon visits the holi Char Dhams and sets out to do his fated task much to Mahaant and the Jagirdar Amar's chagrin - who arrest and put him behind bars. An engrossing love story between Aman & Shabnam. Aman is a struggling & talented Urdu poet who is making a mark in the musical world. Shabnam loves his songs & poetry. When Aman & Shabnam meet each other accidently in a stormy night, they fall in love with each other. Aman is appointed as a tutor in Shabnam's pavilion for her sister Ranziah of the recommendation of Aman's friend Shekhar. Aman & Shabnam start romancing each other & plan to marry soon. But Shabnam's father turns up as their nemesis. He insults & expells Aman from their house & further fixes Shabnam's marriage with Aftab Ahmed of Lucknow against her wish. Khan Bahadur (Shabnam's father) sets off for Lucknow with his family. A dejected & devasted Aman also coincidentally arrives at Lucknow in search of his fortune. As a matter of further coincidence, Aman discovers that the friend in whose house he is staying is actually the future spouse of Shabnam. Aman leaves Aftab's residence without notice. Meanwhile Aman's old pals Shabnam & Shamma arrive at lucknow with their father to participate in a Shayari challenge. Shamma is an ardent & secret admires of the lonely Aman. Whatever she does, is dedicated in Aman's memory. Aman begins to pen & compose magnificent Shayaris. He begins to sing on radio programmes. Very quickly Aman carves a niche for himself in the elite world of Lucknow. Shamma & Aman meet each other at Lucknow. Shamma becomnes overjoyed. Aman who is submerged in the painful memory of his lost love for Shamma's does not realise Shamma's unconditional love. Anyway, he becomes the heart and soul of Shamma's father's musical troup. With Aman's voice & shayaris, Shamma's group attains pinnacle of success & popularity. A shattered & imprisoned Shabnam overhears Aman's voice on radio & acknowledges that Aman is still in Lucknow. After an immense effort, Shabnam reaches one of Aman's poetic duels. Shamma faints during the program. Her sickness gives a platform for Shabnam & Aman to meet each other. Khan Bhadur & Aman's friend Shekhar reach the spot searching for the missing Shabnam. At this point Shabnam's mother revolts against the tyranical & dictatorial Khan Bahadur. Even Aftab Ahmed supports Shabnam's mother. Khan Bhadur gives in & the estranged lovers reunite on another rainy night.

"Phagun" is the tale of a forbidden love of a gypsy and a gent, loving and living together as if there was no tomorrow. . The eternal challenge is taken up by zamindars son Bijon and gypsy chieftains daughter Banani, who defying all social conventions build up a love nest. The cruel hand of fate razes it to the ground, and tears them apart. Gypsy Madal, to whom Banani is betrothed, provokes her father Tincori, who forcibly takes her away to some unknown destination. . The battle between love and convention does not end there. Bijaon in disguise makes his appearance and manages to escape with Banani. Infuriated Madal plunges in their pursuit and in the ensuing fight Bijon loses his memory and Banani too. . unconscious Bijon is picked up by a fabulous princess who taking of Fate, once again unites Bijon and Banani, and ther e springs up a violent drama of triangular love. The princess viciously plans to trap her rival Banani in the claws of death.

However, Jahan and Mirza do meet secretly and promise to marry each other. Misfortune visits the emperor, when his wife, Mumtaz Mahal (Achala Sachdev), passes away. The emperor gets deeply devastated, and, still mourning his wife's death, he pledges to build a memorial in her name (which would subsequently be called Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders on Earth). The only son of the Royal Astrologer, Narsin (Om Prakash) namely Gopal (Bharat Bhushan) is not interested in astrology but in music and songs, much to the dismay of Narsin. Gopal's talents are well-known and he could become the Emperor's Chief Musician if he wins in the contest. His rivals live next door, and in order to win the approval of the emperor (Chandrashekhar), they poison Gopal's drink, and Gopal loses his voice completely. His mom (Leela Chitnis) is sorry at the loss of his voice. A young dancing girl, Gopi (Nimmi) takes interest in Gopal, and through her help and a hard knock on the head, he recovers his voice. But Gopal's challenges are far from over, and he will be called upon to prove his worth, as well as his association with Gopi.

It also had Bharat Bhushan, Nirupa Roy, Madan Puri and another Nasir Husain fixture Rajendranath. Nasir's nephew Faisal Khan who was 3 years old at the time plays Shashi Kapoor's character as a child. Two more Husain fixtures wrote the memorable songs: lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and music composer R.D. Burman, who also has an acting role in the film. The film became a Silver Jubilee Hit.The story was on Nasir Husain's favorite theme, a family whose members get separated at the start of the movie and after much action are reunited at the end of the movie. The theme song (Tum bin jaoon kahan) is played several times in the film: Mohammed Rafi's version is picturized on the hero Shashi Kapoor three times, while Kishore Kumar's version is picturized on Bharat Bhushan twice. The song is a key part of the movie like the key songs in later movies of Nasir Hussain (Yaadon Ki Baraat and Hum Kisise Kum Naheen). The key song helps in uniting long lost family/lovers in all three films.Seema is the only child of widowed Mohan, who is adopted by Mohan's boss, Sardar Ranjit Singh, who has no heir to his estate, as his daughter, Jamuna, eloped with a poor peasant, Gopal. Ranjit does not get along with his step-brother, Shankar. Jamuna manages to placate her dad, & he goes to her house, only to find it in flames with Gopal burned to death, and their son, Sunder, missing. Years later, Seema has now grown up and meets with a young man named Pyarelal in Ooty. She meets him a year later, but this time he introduces himself as Jhatpat Singh, a man she was supposedly engaged to in their childhood. Shortly thereafter she meets with the real Jhatpat Singh, and changes her mind about the fake Jhatpat Singh alias Pyarelal. She does get to meet him again - this time he claims to be Sunil, who gets employed by Ranjit as the Estate Manager. Both re-kindle their romance.
It is one of two films in which Music Director Rahul Dev Burman plays a role in the film apart from giving the music for the film, the other being Bhoot Bungla.

When Shantvarkumar Sharma and his wife, Gyanvati, find out they are unable to conceive, they pray for years to Bhagwan Shri Brahma, who eventually appears before them, blesses them, tells them they will soon be proud parents of a devoted son, but warns them not to see him or else they will lose their vision. True enough, a son, Shravankumar, is born, but barely after a month after his birth, the couple break their promise, see him, and become blind. One day at the riverbank, Gyanvati finds that her son is missing, but he is eventually brought back to them unharmed by none other than Maharaja Dashrath, who has been childless for years. Shantvar and Gyanvati bless him with not one but four sons. Years later Shravankumar has grown up and is very devoted to his parents, he even prefers to worship them instead of God, much to chagrin of Devi Maa Maya, who decides to test his devotion. When he finds out that it was because of him they lost their vision, he undertakes to take them on a holy Trithyatra so as to restore their vision, he decides to carry them in a palanquin,instead of a chariot offer by Dashrath, and they share many adventures including getting blessed by Bhagwan Shri Shiv himself. On the last leg of their pilgrimage, Dashrath is hunting a man-eating tiger, while Shravan has gone to the riverbank to get some water for his thirsty parents. Dashrath thinks that the tiger is drinking water, shoots it, and instead kills Shravan. When a horrified Dashrath takes the water to his parents, they curse him that his dead body will never be carried by his sons, and he will be separated from his most beloved son. Soon after this both of them die, leaving Dashrath to atone for his sin - a sin that will result in the reincarnation of Bhagwan Shri Vishnu himself as his son, Bhagwan Shri Ram - who will be separated from him to satisfy a whim of Dashrath's wife, Kaikeyi, thus leading to epic Ramayan.

Baiju Bawra is a 1952 Hindi movie directed by Vijay Bhatt. It stars Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari.
The movie is based on the legend of Baiju Bawra from the days of Mughal Emperor Akbar in India. Baiju (Bhushan) is the son of a musician who also grows up to be a musician. He comes to believe that Tansen, the famed musician at the court of Akbar, is responsible for his father's death. The movie then follows Baiju's attempt to avenge his father's death by challenging Tansen to a musical duel. Even though there were many changes in the storyline from the original life of Baiju Bawra, the film was both a commercial and critical success and catapulted both its lead actors into stardom. Meena Kumari went on to win the first-ever Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1954, the first of four Best Actress trophies she won in her career.The film's music director, Naushad, also received the inaugural Filmfare Best Music Director Award for the song "Tu Ganga Ki Mauj"; this was Naushad's first and only Filmfare Award win.

Pride and prejudice die hard. Motilal Babu of Bangalore has to learn it again when he becomes baffled in his opposition aginst the tyranny of the orthodox society and loses all hopes of givinge his only daughter Kamini in marriage. Kamini, the product of intercaste marriage of her parents is ever so simple, sweet and innocent. Her dying mothers last desire was to give her in marriage to Sundar a distant relation of Motilal, living far away in Burman. . Kaminis loving and lovely friend is Rani. By nature and disposition Rani is just unlike her. She is modern in thought. Outlook and beliefs and can neither stand nor accept the superiority of menfolk in anything. Full of high spirits, she is most admired in her college because of her versatile talents in games, dances and histrionics. Cupid starts playing tricks in their lives and arranges a chance meeting between Rani and Kamini and two friends Raja and Kishore, both students of the local Medical College. Impulsive Raja is blinded by love at first sight towards Kamini inspite of the fact that she was born of a low caste mother. Kishore also feels the same fondness growing in him for Rani Rajas father Husur Das is a typical Conservative and regards women as the root of all troubles on earth. He is quite happy with his pride and prejudice, happy in his village home faraway from Bangalore. . Through the efforts of Kishore, Raja and Kamini are secretly married just when Sundar returns from Burma and is shocked to know of Kaminis marriage. He leaves the place; Motilal goes in search of Sundar and loses his life in the sea. The news of Rajas mariage reaches Husur Das and enrages him. He manages to get back his son at the village home,and asks Raja to leave Kamini and again marry a girl of his own caste. Raja refuses and resents hoping at same time that Kamini in person may be able to bring a change in the hearts of his parents. . He comes down to Bangalore at night to take Kamini home, and is shocked to find her in a gay and jovial mood with a stranger, who, he learns, is none other than Sunder Misunderstanding crops up and Raja turns back to his village home leaving Kamini behind. He agrees to remarry and his haughy father is all the more pleased and shows Raja the photo of the girl who is none other than Rani. Raja is amused for a moment but gives his final approval and consent to marriage with Rani. . Kamini is mortally wounded by Rajas letter and attitude. Meanwhile Rani comes to tell Kamini about her marriage and drags her to see the man who is to become her husband. The aggried Kamini is shocked, decides to sacrifice her own happiness and herself so that Raja may be happy. Her attempt at suicide is accidentally foiled by the timely appearance of Kishore. . Marriage preparations are in full swing. Kishore tries his best to stop Raja and bring about a reconciliation but is insulted by his friend. Kishore hurries to Rani and intimates her the full story. Rani decides and it is a hasty, quick decision. . In the marriage pandal, all are present and everything is ready. But what is Ranis decision ? Is Kamini to be reconciled to her fate ? And Kishores last minute attempt is it to meet with no success? Will there be no heart. searching in Rajas mind ? Will the age-old prejudice still triumph over sorrows sentiments?

The only son of the Royal Astrologer, Narsin (Om Prakash) namely Gopal (Bharat Bhushan) is not interested in astrology but in music and songs, much to the dismay of Narsin. Gopal's talents are well-known and he could become the Emperor's Chief Musician if he wins in the contest. His rivals live next door, and in order to win the approval of the emperor (Chandrashekhar), they poison Gopal's drink, and Gopal loses his voice completely. His mom (Leela Chitnis) is sorry at the loss of his voice. A young dancing girl, Gopi (Nimmi) takes interest in Gopal, and through her help and a hard knock on the head, he recovers his voice. But Gopal's challenges are far from over, and he will be called upon to prove his worth.

Kali is an uppercaste but naive and dim-witted Brahman and lives with his stepmother and her son. He has fallen in love with Pushpavali who is of a low caste. Kali's mother frowns on this and on the next small pretext throw him out of the house. The villagers do not show any sympathy for Kali. Kali and Pushpavali decide to leave the village. Princess Vidyotma hears Pushpavali singing and invites her to the palace to be her maid. Vidyotma is not married and will only marry a man more intelligent than her. She has humiliated and defeated many men, and no man seems to even match wits with her. A sage decides to bring her arrogance to an end, and he asks the naive Kali to accompany him to see the Princess, Kali does so, and through the Sage's help defeats the Princess. The Princess marries Kali and is aghast to find that he is illiterate, and dim-witted. Kali gets humiliated by the princess, and he decides to educate himself. His true love is still Pushpavali. But he is now married, and the princess will definitely not let him leave for a low-caste woman
