What is precognition? Literally to know something in advance that one cannot logically have known. It's a form of clairvoyants to see something in the future, it doesn't really matter what, that is yet in this timeframe to come to pass.
I'd like to illustrate something very quickly. Again, way back at the beginning of my development. We were told to think about your live at the moment as being in a train. You’re going along, you can see where you're at the moment. You can see behind you. However, suppose you could get out on top of the train.
You could see past, present, and future all together. In this timeframe we like to think about the future still being out there, but of course to me it's perfectly obvious that the big events already exist out there. So, liking it to being just for a moment up on top of the train and getting a little peak into the future pre-early cognition, to know something before the event in timelines as we understand them.

How to develop pre-cognition. I've got to go back to a personal story. Many years ago, the then editor of the New York Post, Gary, called me up out of the blue and said "I'm going to give you a lot of dates of birth. Tell me what's going to happen to these people, situations, institutions," whatever they were, "in the next year." And I said "Oh, okay." You know, "Give me a couple of days. I'll get back to you." And he said "Oh no. No, no, no, no. Turn your phone off. You've got an hour and a half." And I thought "Oh, okay."
So I looked at the astrology books and I pondered, and I came up with a long list of, I didn't know whether they were people, situations, of what was going to happen for the people, situations, institutions, of these birth dates.
Turned out to be remarkably on target. Why am I mentioning that? The only way you can develop, or see if you have pre-cognition, is to commit yourself to paper. Now you don't have to show anybody it, but try, because I didn't know I could do these things before I tried, before somebody each time said to me "Oh, could you just give this a whirl," like, the world predictions. I didn't know I could do it, but somebody said "You probably do this, so give it a whirl." That is what I'm suggesting to you.
Sit down at a quiet time. Do what you need to do. Now, some people need to go into an altered state. They have to cleanse. They have to do all sorts of things. I personally don't. You might. I'm not saying what you might. Get out, either, your little tablet, your computer, or like me, pencil and paper, and see how you might do. Write yourself, I'm not going to give you a number, two, three, six items of things that may happen in the future. Pop it away in a drawer, review it several months later. That is the only way that you could possibly know if you have the ability of pre-cognition.

Follow Anne on @AnneClearyPhD Professor Anne Cleary is fascinated by how we explain scenarios that defy our definition of normal! She is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology and studies these strange cognitive episodes that many assume to be outside the realm of science. She likes to try to explain the seemingly inexplicable in scientific terms. Along these lines, one of the phenomena that she has studied over the years is déjà vu—that mysterious feeling of having done something before despite knowing otherwise.
She has also studied tip-of-the-tongue experiences (when a word feels right on the verge of being accessed) and Presque vu (the feeling of being on the verge of an epiphany). Most recently, she and her students have discovered a link between feelings of déjà vu and feelings of being able to predict what is going to happen next. Edwin C. May, PhD, was involved in the military intelligence psychic spying program, popularly referred to as Stargate, for over twenty years. During the last decade, he was the director of research for that program. In this context, he produced over a hundred scientific publications. His academic training was in experimental nuclear physics. He is coauthor of ESP Wars: East and West and also Anomalous Cognition: Remote Viewing Research and Theory. He is the coeditor of a two volume anthology titled Extrasensory Perception: Support, Skepticism, and Science.
Here he shares his hypothesis that precognition is the basic mechanism that can explain every other form of parapsychological information transfer. Macro-psychokinesis, he suggests, may be the only suspected paranormal phenomenon that is not always amenable to explanation as a form of precognition. He offers several arguments for resolving the paradoxes posed by precognition – such as the apparent incompatibility of precognition and free will. He also maintains that precognition need not entail backward causality – as it is an informational process rather than a mechanical causal chain.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He is a past vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology; and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that Association for his contributions to the field of human consciousness exploration. He is also past-president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people are encouraged to cultivate and apply their inner, intuitive abilities.

Receiving direct knowledge or perception of the future, Precognition, is another common psi ability with a long-standing history. Precognition is usually achieved through prophetic dreams, during deep meditation, or spontaneously received as images in the mind’s eye. The existence of this paranormal ability, however, once again goes against the Newtonian grain and strikes close to the heart of people’s conceptions of time and free will. Because if precognition is real, then the future must in some sense be pre-written and determined.

Precognition
Precognition (from the Latin præ-, "before" and cognitio, "acquiring knowledge"), also called future sight, and second sight, is an alleged psychic ability to see events in the future.
As with other forms of extrasensory perception, there is no evidence that precognition is a real ability possessed by anyone. However it still appears within movies, books, and discussion within the parapsychology community, with claimed precognition of earthquakes sometimes covered by the newsmedia.
Scientific investigation of extrasensory perception is complicated by the definition which implies that the phenomena go against established principles of science. Specifically, precognition would violate the principle that an effect cannot occur before its cause. There are established biases affecting human memory and judgment of probability that sometimes create convincing but false impressions of precognition.
Belief
Belief in precognition has been related to superstition. A 1978 Gallup poll found that 37% of Americans surveyed believed in precognition. According to psychologists Tobacyk and Milford, belief in precognition was greater in college women than in men, and a 2007 Gallup poll found that women were more prone to superstitious beliefs in general.

Future
The future is what will happen in the time after the present. Its arrival is considered inevitable due to the existence of time and the laws of physics. Due to the apparent nature of reality and the unavoidability of the future, everything that currently exists and will exist can be categorized as either permanent, meaning that it will exist forever, or temporary, meaning that it will end. The future and the concept of eternity have been major subjects of philosophy, religion, and science, and defining them non-controversially has consistently eluded the greatest of minds. In the Occidental view, which uses a linear conception of time, the future is the portion of the projected time line that is anticipated to occur. In special relativity, the future is considered absolute future, or the future light cone.
In the philosophy of time, presentism is the belief that only the present exists and the future and the past are unreal. Religions consider the future when they address issues such as karma, life after death, and eschatologies that study what the end of time and the end of the world will be. Religious figures such as prophets and diviners have claimed to see into the future. Organized efforts to predict or forecast the future may have derived from observations by early man of heavenly objects.

Padded Room (album)
Padded Room is the second studio album by American rapper Joe Budden, released on February 24, 2009. Recording sessions for the album took place from 2007 to 2008; at Bennett Studios in Englewood, New Jersey, Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California and Sundance Studios in Jersey City, New Jersey, and it was mixed and mastered at Cyber Sound Studio in New York City. The record features guest appearances from Emanny, Drew Hudson, The Game and the Junkyard Gang. The album's release was supported by the single "The Future" featuring The Game, and two promotional singles – "In My Sleep" and "Exxxes".
Padded Room debuted at number 42 on the US Billboard 200 chart and number two on the Top Independent Albums chart, with 13,451 copies sold in the first week of release. Many people in the entertainment industry had high expectations for Padded Room. Upon its release, the album received generally favorable reviews from music critics. How to develop pre-cognition. I've got to go back to a personal story. Many years ago, the then editor of the New York Post, Gary, called me up out of the blue and said "I'm going to give you a lot of dates of birth. Tell me what's going to happen to these people, situations, institutions," whatever they were, "in the next year." And I said "Oh, okay." You know, "Give me a couple of days. I'll get back to you." And he said "Oh no. No, no, no, no. Turn your phone off. You've got an hour and a half." And I thought "Oh, okay."
So I looked at the astrology books and I pondered, and I came up with a long list of, I didn't know whether they were people, situations, of what was going to happen for the people, situations, institutions, of these birth dates.
Turned out to be remarkably on target. Why am I mentioning that? The only way you can develop, or see if you have pre-cognition, is to commit yourself to paper. Now you don't have to show anybody it, but try, because I didn't know I could do these things before I tried, before somebody each time said to me "Oh, could you just give this a whirl," like, the world predictions. I didn't know I could do it, but somebody said "You probably do this, so give it a whirl." That is what I'm suggesting to you.

His academic training was in experimental nuclear physics. He is coauthor of ESP Wars: East and West and also Anomalous Cognition: Remote Viewing Research and Theory. He is the coeditor of a two volume anthology titled Extrasensory Perception: Support, Skepticism, and Science.
Here he shares his hypothesis that precognition is the basic mechanism that can explain every other form of parapsychological information transfer. Macro-psychokinesis, he suggests, may be the only suspected paranormal phenomenon that is not always amenable to explanation as a form of precognition. He offers several arguments for resolving the paradoxes posed by precognition – such as the apparent incompatibility of precognition and free will. He also maintains that precognition need not entail backward causality – as it is an informational process rather than a mechanical causal chain.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He is a past vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology; and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that Association for his contributions to the field of human consciousness exploration. He is also past-president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people are encouraged to cultivate and apply their inner, intuitive abilities.

"Here we present a general supervised framework for record deduplication and author-disambiguation via Spark. This work differentiates itself by - Application of Databricks and AWS makes this a scalable implementation. Compute resources are comparably lower than traditional legacy technology using big boxes 24/7. Scalability is crucial as Elsevier's Scopus data, the biggest scientific abstract repository, covers roughly 250 million authorships from 70 million abstracts covering a few hundred years. - We create a fingerprint for each content by deep learning and/or word2vec algorithms to expedite pairwise similarity calculation. These encoders substantially reduce compute time while maintaining semantic similarity (unlike traditional TFIDF or predefined taxonomies). We will briefly discuss how to optimize word2vec training with high parallelization. Moreover, we show how these encoders can be used to derive a standard representation for all our entities namely such as documents, authors, users, journals, etc. This standard representation can simplify the recommendation problem into a pairwise similarity search and hence it can offer a basic recommender for cross-product applications where we may not have a dedicate recommender engine designed. - Traditional author-disambiguation or record deduplication algorithms are batch-processing with small to no training data. However, we have roughly 25 million authorships that are manually curated or corrected upon user feedback. Hence, it is crucial to maintain historical profiles and hence we have developed a machine learning implementation to deal with data streams and process them in mini batches or one document at a time. We will discuss how to measure the accuracy of such a system, how to tune it and how to process the raw data of pairwise similarity function into final clusters. Lessons learned from this talk can help all sort of companies where they want to integrate their data or deduplicate their user/customer/product databases.

Abstract: Word sense disambiguation (WSD) – the task of determining which meaning a word carries in a particular context – is a core research problem in computational linguistics. Though it has long been recognized that supervised (i.e., machine learning–based) approaches to WSD can yield impressive results, they require an amount of manually annotated training data that is often too expensive or impractical to obtain. This is a particular problem for under-resourced languages and text domains, and is also a hurdle in well-resourced languages when processing the sort of lexical-semantic anomalies employed for deliberate effect in humour and wordplay. In contrast to supervised systems are knowledge-based techniques, which rely only on pre-existing lexical-semantic resources (LSRs) such as dictionaries and thesauri. These techniques are of more general applicability but tend to suffer from lower performance due to the informational gap between the target word's context and the sense descriptions provided by the LSR. In this seminar, we treat the task of extending the efficacy and applicability of knowledge-based WSD, both generally and for the particular case of English puns. In the first part of the talk, we present two approaches for bridging the information gap and thereby improving WSD coverage and accuracy. In the first approach, we supplement the word's context and the LSR's sense descriptions with entries from a distributional thesaurus. The second approach enriches an LSR's sense information by aligning it to other, complementary LSRs. In the second part of the talk, we describe how these techniques, along with evaluation methodologies from traditional WSD, can be adapted for the "disambiguation" of puns, or rather for the automatic identification of their double meanings.

What is precognition? Literally to know something in advance that one cannot logically have known. It's a form of clairvoyants to see something in the future, it doesn't really matter what, that is yet in this timeframe to come to pass.
I'd like to illustrate something very quickly. Again, way back at the beginning of my development. We were told to think about your live at the moment as being in a train. You’re going along, you can see where you're at the moment. You can see behind you. However, suppose you could get out on top of the train.
You could see past, present, and future all together. In this timeframe we like to think about the future still being out there, but of course to me it's perfectly obvious that the big events already exist out there. So, liking it to being just for a moment up on top of the train and getting a little peak into the future pre-early cognition, to know something before the event in timelines as we understand them.

How to develop pre-cognition. I've got to go back to a personal story. Many years ago, the then editor of the New York Post, Gary, called me up out of the blue and said "I'm going to give you a lot of dates of birth. Tell me what's going to happen to these people, situations, institutions," whatever they were, "in the next year." And I said "Oh, okay." You know, "Give me a couple of days. I'll get back to you." And he said "Oh no. No, no, no, no. Turn your phone off. You've got an hour and a half." And I thought "Oh, okay."
So I looked at the astrology books and I pondered, and I came up with a long list of, I didn't know whether they were people, situations, of what was going to happen for the people, situations, institutions, of these birth dates.
Turned out to be remarkably on target. Why am I mentioning that? The only way you can develop, or see if you have pre-cognition, is to commit yourself to paper. Now you don't have to show anybody it, but try, because I didn't know I could do these things before I tried, before somebody each time said to me "Oh, could you just give this a whirl," like, the world predictions. I didn't know I could do it, but somebody said "You probably do this, so give it a whirl." That is what I'm suggesting to you.
Sit down at a quiet time. Do what you need to do. Now, some people need to go into an altered state. They have to cleanse. They have to do all sorts of things. I personally don't. You might. I'm not saying what you might. Get out, either, your little tablet, your computer, or like me, pencil and paper, and see how you might do. Write yourself, I'm not going to give you a number, two, three, six items of things that may happen in the future. Pop it away in a drawer, review it several months later. That is the only way that you could possibly know if you have the ability of pre-cognition.

Follow Anne on @AnneClearyPhD Professor Anne Cleary is fascinated by how we explain scenarios that defy our definition of normal! She is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology and studies these strange cognitive episodes that many assume to be outside the realm of science. She likes to try to explain the seemingly inexplicable in scientific terms. Along these lines, one of the phenomena that she has studied over the years is déjà vu—that mysterious feeling of having done something before despite knowing otherwise.
She has also studied tip-of-the-tongue experiences (when a word feels right on the verge of being accessed) and Presque vu (the feeling of being on the verge of an epiphany). Most recently, she and her students have discovered a link between feelings of déjà vu and feelings of being able to predict what is going to happen next. Edwin C. May, PhD, was involved in the military intelligence psychic spying program, popularly referred to as Stargate, for over twenty years. During the last decade, he was the director of research for that program. In this context, he produced over a hundred scientific publications. His academic training was in experimental nuclear physics. He is coauthor of ESP Wars: East and West and also Anomalous Cognition: Remote Viewing Research and Theory. He is the coeditor of a two volume anthology titled Extrasensory Perception: Support, Skepticism, and Science.
Here he shares his hypothesis that precognition is the basic mechanism that can explain every other form of parapsychological information transfer. Macro-psychokinesis, he suggests, may be the only suspected paranormal phenomenon that is not always amenable to explanation as a form of precognition. He offers several arguments for resolving the paradoxes posed by precognition – such as the apparent incompatibility of precognition and free will. He also maintains that precognition need not entail backward causality – as it is an informational process rather than a mechanical causal chain.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He is a past vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology; and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that Association for his contributions to the field of human consciousness exploration. He is also past-president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people are encouraged to cultivate and apply their inner, intuitive abilities.

Receiving direct knowledge or perception of the future, Precognition, is another common psi ability with a long-standing history. Precognition is usually achieved through prophetic dreams, during deep meditation, or spontaneously received as images in the mind’s eye. The existence of this paranormal ability, however, once again goes against the Newtonian grain and strikes close to the heart of people’s conceptions of time and free will. Because if precognition is real, then the future must in some sense be pre-written and determined.

Precognition
Precognition (from the Latin præ-, "before" and cognitio, "acquiring knowledge"), also called future sight, and second sight, is an alleged psychic ability to see events in the future.
As with other forms of extrasensory perception, there is no evidence that precognition is a real ability possessed by anyone. However it still appears within movies, books, and discussion within the parapsychology community, with claimed precognition of earthquakes sometimes covered by the newsmedia.
Scientific investigation of extrasensory perception is complicated by the definition which implies that the phenomena go against established principles of science. Specifically, precognition would violate the principle that an effect cannot occur before its cause. There are established biases affecting human memory and judgment of probability that sometimes create convincing but false impressions of precognition.
Belief
Belief in precognition has been related to superstition. A 1978 Gallup poll found that 37% of Americans surveyed believed in precognition. According to psychologists Tobacyk and Milford, belief in precognition was greater in college women than in men, and a 2007 Gallup poll found that women were more prone to superstitious beliefs in general.

"Here we present a general supervised framework for record deduplication and author-disambiguation via Spark. This work differentiates itself by - Application of Databricks and AWS makes this a scalable implementation. Compute resources are comparably lower than traditional legacy technology using big boxes 24/7. Scalability is crucial as Elsevier's Scopus data, the biggest scientific abstract repository, covers roughly 250 million authorships from 70 million abstracts covering a few hundred years. - We create a fingerprint for each content by deep learning and/or word2vec algorithms to expedite pairwise similarity calculation. These encoders substantially reduce compute time while maintaining semantic similarity (unlike traditional TFIDF or predefined taxonomies). We will briefly discuss how to optimize word2vec training with high parallelization. Moreover, we show how these encoders can be used to derive a standard representation for all our entities namely such as documents, authors, users, journals, etc. This standard representation can simplify the recommendation problem into a pairwise similarity search and hence it can offer a basic recommender for cross-product applications where we may not have a dedicate recommender engine designed. - Traditional author-disambiguation or record deduplication algorithms are batch-processing with small to no training data. However, we have roughly 25 million authorships that are manually curated or corrected upon user feedback. Hence, it is crucial to maintain historical profiles and hence we have developed a machine learning implementation to deal with data streams and process them in mini batches or one document at a time. We will discuss how to measure the accuracy of such a system, how to tune it and how to process the raw data of pairwise similarity function into final clusters. Lessons learned from this talk can help all sort of companies where they want to integrate their data or deduplicate their user/customer/product databases.

Abstract: Word sense disambiguation (WSD) – the task of determining which meaning a word carries in a particular context – is a core research problem in computational linguistics. Though it has long been recognized that supervised (i.e., machine learning–based) approaches to WSD can yield impressive results, they require an amount of manually annotated training data that is often too expensive or impractical to obtain. This is a particular problem for under-resourced languages and text domains, and is also a hurdle in well-resourced languages when processing the sort of lexical-semantic anomalies employed for deliberate effect in humour and wordplay. In contrast to supervised systems are knowledge-based techniques, which rely only on pre-existing lexical-semantic resources (LSRs) such as dictionaries and thesauri. These techniques are of more general applicability but tend to suffer from lower performance due to the informational gap between the target word's context and the sense descriptions provided by the LSR. In this seminar, we treat the task of extending the efficacy and applicability of knowledge-based WSD, both generally and for the particular case of English puns. In the first part of the talk, we present two approaches for bridging the information gap and thereby improving WSD coverage and accuracy. In the first approach, we supplement the word's context and the LSR's sense descriptions with entries from a distributional thesaurus. The second approach enriches an LSR's sense information by aligning it to other, complementary LSRs. In the second part of the talk, we describe how these techniques, along with evaluation methodologies from traditional WSD, can be adapted for the "disambiguation" of puns, or rather for the automatic identification of their double meanings.
