This video is a short and sweet ninety seconds. Just a real quick look at how my first pass video recovery system is constructed. First, I take your videotape, bake it (if necessary), clean it as shown in an earlier video, then play it on the CV-2000D, through a time base corrector and into the Ion VCR2PC mpeg encoding VHS deck. It has external inputs so any SD video can be captured to the PC. The Ion is connected to the computer via USB and the video is captured with a rather conventional video capture interface.

This is the oldest existing consumer video tape recorder in the world. A truly bold claim and yet completely true. Built in 1964, this vintage VTR used half inch tape to record BW television and sound. One reel of tape held one hour. This product series, called Videocorders, was the earliest to market and to be purchased in greater than trivial numbers. Sony manufactured tens of thousands of these between 1965 and 1969. Intended for time shifting TV shows in the home, the series found its true market in schools and commercial institutions. Eleven years before Betamax. I have stripped all the covers off the CV-2000. Replaced the AC motor phasing capacitor. Replaced the head belt with a Panasonic substitute part and gave the machine a whirl! It plays. Unfortunately, the only tape I have at hand is apparently defective. My other two CV-2000 tapes are in Hilliard Ohio at the Early Television Foundation museum on display with the Prototype CV-2000. Duh! Any old tape would have been fine for that display... Oh, well. I explain the various things that I am observing as I put the Videocorder through its paces. Take a good look at the innards of 1965 electronics. Not for the feint hearted! Enjoy another Labguy's World presentation in glorious high definition.

These were at the thrift store for a long time. I was afraid to spend the money to get because I didn't think they would sound good. Finally, I got them. They sat for a long time in the storage area before I connected them to something. The Yamaha YST 99CD didn't like them; the sound was pretty flat and lifeless. Then I had a need for a speaker in the dryer room after placing a radio back on top of the soda machine. What a surprise when I walked by them. It had some very deep sounding bass and crisp treble. Of course, that's all I heard. Mids on this speaker are pretty low and for a rear speaker in a surround sound system, it doesn't make a lot of sense. The Zenith CV2000 speakers are very inefficient. This is probably due to impedance and placement in a seal enclosure. I suppose they needed the right amplifier to power them and make them sound good. Specs Impedance: 16 Ohm Max Power: 7 watts continuous
