Maharashtra registered car triggers alert in Jamnagar

TNN |
Rajkot: An alert was sounded across Jamnagar district on Monday after local residents and a truck driver informed the police control room about suspicious movement of four people in a black SUV near the coastal town of Sikka town in Jamnagar. The area houses important industrial installations like oil refineries and power plant.

"Police control received a call from a Sikka resident informing that four persons in a black SUV were moving in the town and he felt their movement suspicious," Jamnagar SP Pradip Shejul told TOI, adding, "We have ordered nakabandi across the district as precaution."

On primary observation, the vehicle appears to be of tourists from other state. "We have checked CCTV footages from various places. In video footage from a petrol pump near Sikka the car seems to have a Maharashtra registration. Primarily, it seems that these persons may have come for religious tour as they were on way to Dwarka. But we have taken all necessary measures for security purpose," Shejul added.

Local crime branch officers and sleuths of special operation group (SOG) have also launched intensive patrolling to locate the car or any suspected persons in Jamnagar. "We have also alerted Devbhoomi Dwarka district police about the black SUV," said a police official.
