The Keighley Volcano (9th & 10th October 2014)
This one was suppose to be two parts like last year
Documentary '
Back to
Yorkshire, well
Worth Valley It', hopefully had a got a shift at work swapped worked another day and had Thursday free but it didn't plan out so instead had to work Thursday which had to come first before my hobby but everything that happened on the 9th was a 'positioning move' myself for the next day which is at the
Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala, usually I wouldn't document something like this but I made an acceptation.
This video starts off with me catching the 0831 to
Rugeley Trent Valley which is worked by a
Class 170 with a
Class 153, at Rugeley Trent Valley, I catch a
Class 350 EMU to
Stafford and the show have to taken a break due to me working (to be honest I only did this part to add a funny clip in)
After work, back at the station and a brand new
London Midland Class 350/3 is in the platform at Stafford, 350373 and departs on the 1639 to
Crewe via Stoke-On-Trent but my train was the 1701
CrossCountry Trains service to
Manchester Piccadilly.
At Manchester Piccadilly, needed to get to
Manchester Victoria, instead of walking it, took a Class 350/4
First TransPennine Express Desiro, 350401 to
Manchester Oxford Road, which was my first 350/4 ride, then took a
Northern Rail Class 142 Pacer with a
Class 150 to
Salford Crescent and finally travelled on Northern Rail
Class 156, 156440
George Bradshaw to Manchester Victoria from Salford Crescent.
At Manchester Victoria, it was dark but boarded the
1917 Northern Rail service which is formed of a
Class 158 to
Bradford Interchange but this was a
Leeds service via the
Calder Valley Line, this route was used on the 6th June when I visited
Hebden Bridge for a
Class 40.
At Bradford Interchange, went to get something to eat and then came back for some
Class 20s on
RHTT (
Rail Head Treatment Train) which were 20304 and 20305, which had a hellfire departure out of Bradford Interchange and then it was to head to the hotel for a overnight stay.
Next day, left the hotel early to catch 1A07 at
Bradford Forster Square which was 91103 with the ex-Skyfall
MK4 set and travelled to
Shipley on this
East Coast service, the only problem was, Shipley was a stop for passengers to board the train only but I still got off because the plan was to get haulage on the
Skipton to
London Kings Cross East Coast service which was a
HST and travelled to Leeds.
At Leeds got tickets to
Keighley and travelled on a Class 150, the 0817 to Morecombe, at Keighley filmed the
DMU out and then walked to a lineside location film the Steam Locomotives on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, the Locomotives which were running were
Hudswell Clarke 1704 Nunlow,
LNWR Coal Tank 1054, Fowler 4F 43924,
Black 5 45305, WD Austerity 90773 and the star attraction of the Gala was
Keighley and Worth Valley recently overhauled
West Country Class 34092
City of Wells or
Wells which is nicknamed '
The Volcano' which is the reason I went lineside to capture 34092 Wells on a awesome departure out of
Keighley station.
After 34092 Wells departed at midday, went back to the station and filmed the same steam trains at the station, arriving, departing and moving around, but during the afternoon the Gala wasn't going well and around 1630 I left and caught a Northern Rail Class
333 back to Leeds, at Leeds I waited for the 1820 First TransPennine Express service worked by a Class 185 to Manchester Piccadilly.
At Manchester Piccadilly it was time to part ways with my brother while he went to
Carlisle for East Coast diverts on the
West Coast Main Line, I was on my way home and caught a
Class 390 Pendolino to Stafford which was the
1955 to
London Euston and then change trains to Rugeley Trent Valley departed Stafford at
2104 which was the
Northampton Train, at Rugeley Trent Valley instead of going on the
2140 to
Birmingham New Street, I waited for another RHTT, a
MPV working 3S53
Kings Norton ot depot Plant to Kings Norton ot Depot Plant worked by DR98908 & DR98958, after that departed I ended the show and got a taxi back home
