You’d think that by now programmers would have managed to decide on which is the “best” language and then stick to that one. But no. We are faced with a choice between C, C#, Java, Python, Pascal, Ruby and more…
What’s the point of all those programming languages?
Be sure to bookmark the course playlist and subscribe to the Code With Huw Channel.
Course Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZHx5heVfgEsQqmN3xrmiqK_yig_QV5uC
In this short lesson, I give you a quick overview of this course and offer advice on how you should study it.
In this course, I will teach you everything you need to know to understand how computer programs really work. This is not yet another “How To Program In (Some language)” course. In this course I will teach you the essential details that you need to know in order to program in any modern language. If you are following a more traditional programming course at school or college ore if you are learning on your own, this course will help you to understand topics that may have you baffled!
I have spent over 40 years programming, teaching other people to program, writing programming books and working as a software developer. In this course, I aim to distil the knowledge that I’ve gained to help you to understand the art and science of computer programming.
PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE
=======================
While this course does not require that you use any specific programming language, there will be some ‘Hands On’ lessons taught in C# and Java. The best way to study, therefore, is to use at least one of those two languages. On Windows, I recommend installing C# and Visual Studio.
Install Visual Studio: https://youtu.be/IiXWkrMfh2k
Alternatively, you can install Java and an IDE (I’ll be using NetBeans) on any operating system.
Install Java and NetBeans: https://youtu.be/J2iNCDmSWEY
PROGRAMMING BOOKS
====================
If you want to learn C# and Java programming in more depth (and also support this channel!) you might think of buying one of my books. I have written books on C programming, Object Pascal (Delphi), Ruby and other languages. If you want to follow this course using Java, you may find my Java book useful:
The Little Book Of Java Programming
Amazon (US) https://amzn.to/2R7tpwF
Amazon (UK) https://amzn.to/39Fc6cC
If you are following the course using C#, I recommend this book:
The Little Book Of C# Programming
Amazon (US) https://amzn.to/2JWDI0o
Amazon (UK) https://amzn.to/2YaCPtS
Good luck! And good programming!

How Bob the Builder erected a 2021 bridge to the prog-rock band YES.
Paul updates us on a long awaited album from Yes and how he was honoured to arrange and record the orchestral arrangements.
John produces Paul’s music session and interview which was broadcast on Extravaganza on BBC Radio Nottingham in March 1976. Paul was just 18 and studying biology at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic. He’s from Nuthall, in Nottingham, and was educated at Eastwood Comprehensive, formerly Eastwood Hall Park.
They listen to ‘Sunrise’ and comment.
John’s next contact was when Paul formed the band Sense NB not the band from Canada
They discuss Paul’s music for the sci-fi horror ‘Quatermass and the Pit’ and the live performance in a quarry in Cropwell Bishop
John shows CD of ‘The Snow Queen’ recorded in Nottingham’s Albert Hall in The Nottingham Choral Trust Youth Choir and Orchestra and conducted by Angela Kay. That was in 1998, which Paul describes as his pivotal year.
The germ of the idea came about when he was asked to set Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem ‘Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep’ to music for a friend’s funeral.
He explains how Bob the Builder funded The Snow Queen performance in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Burntwood School Girls’ Choir and narrated by Juliet Stevenson.
He didn’t just write Bob for Children’s TV. He is also very proud of composing theme for Noddy and singing on Fimbles signature tune.
BBC commissions The Snow Queen for Christmas broadcast in 2005. It later is named as the highest rated children’s TV show of 2005.
They jump to December 2019 and the tour of ‘Celestial’, which visited The Metronome in Nottingham. It’s based on the poems of the late Johnnie Douglas, narrated by Michel Sheen and includes the YES guitarist, Steve Howe
Mark asks how he persuaded Sheen to contribute
His next move to novel writing it. He’s already self-published ‘The Will of the People’. Three more are on the way including ‘Martin’ a horror story about a driverless car that imprisons its passengers. Cover design by graphic artist, Tom Partridge
Mark, rather cheekily, asks if he is concerned that despite his broad cannon of work, he’s most famous for writing Bob the Builder.
Paul's book 'THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE' is available here
