Quick draw explanation of how plants bend towards the light. Key words: Auxins, Hormone, Proteins, Accumulate, Bend (not grow). A good exam answer for 5 marks In response to - Why does it bend towards the light? Plant releases Auxins from the shoot tip Auxins accumulate on the darker side of the shoot Auxins are plant hormones and cause the cells to grow faster or divide more Cells on the darker side grow faster Plant bends towards the light. Its called Phototopism. For Gravity - auxins accumulate on the lower side of the shoot and is called geotropism. Note:The same process happens to make roots grow downwards, but root cells grow SLOWER in the presence of Auxins.- published: 25 May 2013
