Diane Bilo, a tourist visiting Washington D.C., from Cincinnati, was just outside the Capitol Visitor Center, Monday, when the shooting took place
"We were on our way back when they [the police] told us to run the other way," said Bilo.
While Bilo was speaking with TheBlaze, her husband, who was apparently in the Capitol complex at the time of the shooting, texted her, providing a fuller picture of what unfolded inside in the moments after the shooting.
"It sounded like a full clip from a handgun," said Bilo, reading a text from her husband. "Officers ran down the hallway. They shouted 'cover in place.' Heard them say multiple injuries."
Mitchell Bilo, Diane's son, told TheBlaze he believes he heard multiple gun shots while fleeing the scene at the direction of the Capitol Police.
"People were screaming and the cop was yelling at people to cross the road," said Mitchell.
The Associated Press reported Monday afternoon that a shooting had taken place and that the shooter was in police custody. There were conflicting reports on whether any one was injured. The U.S. Capitol complex remained in a state of lockdown.

I lived in Richmond, VA for eight years and I never visited the Capitol. It was always just this pretty place that you run into at the end of Franklin St. So, when I was hired to do a recruitment video for the Virginia Division of Capitol Police, I definitely had a lot to learn. What I think was the most amazing thing I found out while researching is that the Capitol Police is the oldest law enforcement agency in the United States. They were established in 1618 to protect the Governor, a duty they still practice today. That simple fact is something they take great pride in and I was so honored to help tell their story.

A Capitol Hill visitor was shot by Capitol Police on Monday after he pulled out what appeared to be a weapon during the screening process and pointed it at an officer, said Capitol Police Chief Matthew R. Verderosa.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with a police escort shortly after the incident on a busy day for tourists in the nation's capital. A bystander also suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, he said.

A suspected gunman was apprehended by Capitol police on Monday afternoon.
He has since been transported to a local hospital.
Police officers and congressional sources added the shooting occurred at the Capitol building.
Although reports have indicated a Capitol police officer was also wounded, those facts remain unclear.
Police have not identified the suspect, however they did state the shooting happened near a security checkpoint at the Visitors Center.
The Secret Service temporarily cleared tourists from an area around the White House, but activities quickly returned to normal.

In response to a recent wave of lemonade stand shut downs and harassment of children over such petty regulations as are used to shut them down, several activists gathered at the west lawn of the capitol in Washington, D.C. to sell lemonade and were arrested.
According to the D.C. group's Facebook event page, three lemonistas - Meg Mclain, K.N. Dill and Will Duffield - were taken into custody by Capitol Police. A spokesperson for the Capitol Police said they were each charged with failure to obey a police officer, unlawful conduct and vending without a permit.

Capitol Police Wound Gunman at Visitors Center
A suspected gunman was apprehended by Capitol police on Monday afternoon. He has since been transported to a local hospital. Police officers and congressional sources added the shooting occurred at the Capitol building. Although reports have indicated a Capitol police officer was also wounded, those facts remain unclear. In response to a recent wave of lemonade stand shut downs and harassment of children over such petty regulations as are used to shut them down, several activists gathered at the west lawn of the capitol in Washington, D.C. to sell lemonade and were arrested. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Larry Russell Dawson, a 66-year-old church pastor from Tennessee, was shot by Capitol police after pulling a gun on authorities while going through security clearance. The incident took place just after 2:30 p.m. on March 29 at the underground entrance to the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. The incident took place just after 2:30 p.m. on March 29 at the underground entrance to the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. The suspect was in line with other visitors to enter a routine security check point.
When he passed through the metal detectors, the magnetometers beeped, causing security personnel to approach him. That's when Dawson reportedly pulled out a firearm and aimed it at the officers. A Capitol police officer then shot and disarmed the gunman without fatally wounding him.
Police report no officers were injured in the incident, but an unnamed female bystander was hit by shrapnel and suffered only minor injuries. Dawson had emergency surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center to treat his injuries and remains in police custody.
Dawson was previously arrested in October of last year over an outburst during a congressional session at the House of Representatives, where he reportedly yelled "I am a prophet of God," leading to his swift removal from the chamber.

An armed man was wounded Monday by U.S. Capitol Police when he arrived at the Capitol Visitors Center and brandished a weapon at authorities, police said.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said the man, who is known to authorities, appeared to draw his weapon when he was shot by police. One other person, described as a 35-to-45-year-old female bystander, suffered minor injuries from flying shrapnel or debris.
A federal law enforcement official, who is not authorized to comment publicly, said the man was armed with a handgun.
Verderosa said the matter was "the act of a single person who has frequented the Capitol before.'' The suspect was identified by a federal law enforcement official as Larry Russell Dawson of Antioch, Tenn., who had been charged last year in a Capitol disturbance.
Dawson was charged Oct. 23 with assaulting a police officer and unlawful conduct on Capitol grounds, according to D.C. court records. He was released, but never appeared in court. A bench warrant was issued Nov. 19 for his arrest.

An armed man was wounded Monday by U.S. Capitol Police when he arrived at the Capitol Visitors Center and brandished a weapon at authorities, police said.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said the man, who is known to authorities, appeared to draw his weapon when he was shot by police. One other person, described as a 35-to-45-year-old female bystander, suffered minor injuries from flying shrapnel or debris.
A federal law enforcement official, who is not authorized to comment publicly, said the man was armed with a handgun.
Verderosa said the matter was "the act of a single person who has frequented the Capitol before.'' The suspect was identified by a federal law enforcement official as Larry Russell Dawson of Antioch, Tenn., who had been charged last year in a Capitol disturbance.
Dawson was charged Oct. 23 with assaulting a police officer and unlawful conduct on Capitol grounds, according to D.C. court records. He was released, but never appeared in court. A bench warrant was issued Nov. 19 for his arrest.

Four cruisers from the United States Capitol Police seen here at a traffic stop. It all ended with one arrest - you can also see the paddy wagon as well as all of the units leaving. Special thanks to the officer for letting me take a close up of the lights :) I think the newer cruisers don't have two dash lights anymore. Instead they have mirror lights if I'm right. But I'm not sure since I didn't found the pictures again.
