Mukul Roy

Mukul Roy (Bengali: মুকুল রায়; born 17 April 1954) was the Railway Minister of India. He is an Indian politician and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India, representing West Bengal. He also serves as the General Secretary of his party, the All India Trinamool Congress. After Mamata Banerjee resigned as the Railway Minister she was to become the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Roy was handed additional charge of the Railway Ministry after Mamata didi expressed her desire that her party retain the Railway Ministry and personally recommended Mr. Roy to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He served as a Minister of State in the Railway Ministry with Manmohan Singh serving as the Cabinet Minister (pro tem) till 11 July 2011. Mukul Roy's Railway ministry will run a special train called "DU Gyan Uday Express" a Bengali worded statement, which will take 1000 students of Delhi University to places like Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore during the summer break of 2012.

Taan (music)

Taan (Hindi: तान) (Urdu: تان‎) is a virtuoso technique used in the vocal performance of a raga in Hindustani classical music. It involves the singing of very rapid melodic passages using vowels, often the long "a" as in the word "far", and it targets at improvising and to expand weaving together the notes in a fast tempo. It is similar to the technique ahaat, used in Arabic music.

The murki, a type of ornamentation, is a swift and taan-like movement that is heavily used in thumri.

Types

Taans are clustered in different types:

Bol Taan : Taan can be sung by utilizing the words of the bandish. This is a difficult type of a taan as in this correct pronunciation, meaning of the composition, everything has to be taken into consideration.

Shuddha/Sapat (Straight) Taan : The notes are placed in an order in one or more octaves.

Koot Taan : The notes do not remain in order. Therefore the nature of Koot Taans is complicated.

Mishra Taan : Combination of sapat and koot taans.

Gamak Taan : Gamak is a technique by which a force is added to notes and each note is repeated at least twice.

Debolina Dutta

Debolina Dutta (Bengali: দেবলীনা দত্ত; born 20 April 1977) is an Indian film actress known for her works predominantly in Bengali cinema and Television. She made her acting debut as a child artist with the film Manush Amanush. In 2014, she received critical reception for her role as a water prostitute in Taan. In 2014, she married actor Tathagata Mukherjee.

Elena Kazan

Elena Kazan is German-Russian actress who appears in German as well as Indian films such as Agent Vinod, John Day,Prague etc. The German-Philippine, English film 'Ruined Heart' in which Kazan plays the leading female role was released in March 2015.

Personal life

Kazan was born as Elena Kazan in Moscow, Russia, to German parents. Her mother is a nurse and her father a teacher of Economics. She spent her childhood in the Ukraine before moving to Berlin with her family. At the age of 16, she moved to the US for higher studies. Kazan later went to India to work with a volunteer organization in Kolkata and while there taught the German language at Max Mueller Bhavan. She traveled widely in India for the first three years and learned to speak Hindi fluently. Kazan has never had any formal acting instruction.

Career

Kazan worked in Kolkata with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce as an interpreter. She also worked as a Unit Hand in an Australian short film shot in Kolkata, during which time she got the opportunity to work in a Bengali film. Kazan started her acting career with the 2010 Bengali film 'Clerk' opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee. The next year in 2011, Kazan acted in the drama film Gandhi to Hitler. In 2012, Kazan had a cameo role in the film Agent Vinod. But her first big role came in the 2013 film John Day in which she plays the role of Tabassum Habibi, a chronic alcoholic with a dark and complex past. In the same year 2013, Kazan played the role of a Czech gypsy girl in Prague, who comes to India in search of her identity. Her next film was AASMA in which she plays the role of a Kashmiri girl. Her career went international in 2014, when she co-starred in the German-Philippine, English film 'Ruined Heart'.Currently she is doing Bollywood feature film 'Yun Hi' in Lead co-starred with Rohit Nayyar.
