15 killed, over 2 dozen injured in separate accidents in Agra and Firozabad

Agra/Firozabad: In two separate road accidents in Agra and Firozabad, 15 people were killed and more than two dozen injured. The first incident took place near Bamba crossing on new Bypass under Uttar police station in Firozabad district late on Friday night. According to the police, the driver of a speeding truck lost control and rammed into a motor-bike and a tempo before crushing 12 men who were dancing in a marriage procession on Kotla road. The heavy vehicle came to halt only after hitting an electricity pole. Station officer of Uttar police station, Shashikant Sharma said, "It is unclear whether the driver, Shivam was under the influence of alcohol while driving or not. The speed at which he hit the victims was pretty high, it took us an hour to extract him from the mangled vehicle." "The driver survived the accident but is in coma, four of the victims are under intensive care. 12 people have died in the accident, while 15 others have been injured," he added. Police officials say an FIR has been lodged under IPC section 304A (Causing death by negligence), 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) against the driver. The names of deceased are - Anuj (18), Neeraj (18), Sumit (20), Santosh (25), Manoj (42), Kalua (18), Vakil (30), Bhupinder (46), Narendar (30), Krishna (25), Baldev (28) and Manish (26). In similar incident, a speeding minivan ferrying passengers on Saturday morning turned turtle, killing three people including a woman, while eight others were injured. The accident took place near Gadmukhaa area of Kagraul of Agra. According to station officer Mukesh Rawat, "The minivan was overburdened with passengers. After the accident, the unidentified driver fled the spot. We have booked him under 304 A, 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC." The deceased in the Agra incident were Lalit (12), Saroj (55) and Rohan (10), while Prem, Akash, Raju, Yogendar, Arunav, Sahar, Khelam, Saurab and Lalit were injured and taken to government hospital for treatment.
