Individuals within these populations often share certain associated phenotypic traits, such as epicanthic folds and neotony. In terms of population, it is the most widely distributed physical type, constituting over a third of the human species.
The word is formed by the base word "Mongol" and the suffix "-oid" which means "resembling", so therefore the term literally means "resembling Mongols". It was introduced by early ethnology primarily to describe various central and East Asian populations, one of the proposed three major races of humanity. Although some forensic anthropologists and other scientists continue to use the term in some contexts (such as criminal justice), the term mongoloid is now considered derogatory by most anthropologists due to its association with disputed typological models of racial classification.

Perhaps I was too harsh on the "race realists" in my previous video. Human races exist in about the same way that eras in history exist. They are arbitrary and useful as broad generalizations. What I think I can easily show is that the Victorian idea of race essentialism: that the categories themselves are somehow more meaningful than any other, or that they are homotypic, is unscientific.
Part 2 will cover more on this topic, particularly the abuse of the sociological definition of race to justify a kind of genetic determinism.

Russians are the most numerous ethnic group in Europe and one of the largest in the world with a population of about 140 million people worldwide. Roughly 116 million ethnic Russians live in Russia and about 16 million more live in the neighboring countries. A significant number of Russians, around 4,6 million, live elsewhere in the world, mostly in the Americas and Western Europe, but also in other places of Eastern Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

"The Ethnic Origins of Beauty (Les origines de la beauté) is a non-profit, artistic, documentary and research project about the ethnic diversity of mankind, presented through the beauty of women of all ethnic groups of the world.
The aim of this project is to show the real scale of ethnocultural diversity in a full, systematic and creative way; to illustrate each and every distinctive ethnicity, however small it is, and whatever its political status.
Only ethnicities put on the base of the project, and not countries, to show the multinational picture of the world vividly, which we do not see when focusing only at racial or national typologies that are characteristic for various international competitions or other events. Limiting only by civil affiliation, 90% of existing peoples stay uninvolved, because they are not presented as independent countries.
The project includes photo-portraits and video-interviews of young women representing their ethnicity with accompanying informational note about every people. With the accumulation of the material, it will be published, first of all, on the project's interactive internet platforms (websites, social media, etc). During the realisation and at the end of the project, different exhibitions will be organised; books, DVD and others will be published to promote this initiative.
The beauty of a woman and her peacekeeping nature are used in this project as a peace envoy, which unites all the faces of the human race and calls people to know themselves and the people around them.
The project "The Ethnic Origins of Beauty" received the acknowledgment of UNESCO and was first presented at an exhibition devoted to international women's day in March 2014, at its Parisian headquarters.

Mongoloid /ˈmɒŋ.ɡə.lɔɪd/ is the general physical type of some or all of the populations of East Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Siberia, the Arctic, parts of the Americas and the Pacific Islands, and small parts of South Asia. Individuals within these populations often share certain associated phenotypic traits, such as epicanthic folds and neotony. In terms of population, it is the most widely distributed physical type, constituting over a third of the human species.
The word is formed by the base word "Mongol" and the suffix "-oid" which means "resembling", so therefore the term literally means "resembling Mongols". It was introduced by early ethnology primarily to describe various central and East Asian populations, one of the proposed three major races of humanity. Although some forensic anthropologists and other scientists continue to use the term in some contexts (such as criminal justice), the term mongoloid is now considered derogatory by most anthropologists due to its association with disputed typological models of racial classification.

Perhaps I was too harsh on the "race realists" in my previous video. Human races exist in about the same way that eras in history exist. They are arbitrary and useful as broad generalizations. What I think I can easily show is that the Victorian idea of race essentialism: that the categories themselves are somehow more meaningful than any other, or that they are homotypic, is unscientific.
Part 2 will cover more on this topic, particularly the abuse of the sociological definition of race to justify a kind of genetic determinism.
A great number of primary sources went into the research for this video. I've annotated when I used figures, but you may also find the following articles useful in learning more:

Russians are the most numerous ethnic group in Europe and one of the largest in the world with a population of about 140 million people worldwide. Roughly 116 million ethnic Russians live in Russia and about 16 million more live in the neighboring countries. A significant number of Russians, around 4,6 million, live elsewhere in the world, mostly in the Americas and Western Europe, but also in other places of Eastern Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

"The Ethnic Origins of Beauty (Les origines de la beauté) is a non-profit, artistic, documentary and research project about the ethnic diversity of mankind, presented through the beauty of women of all ethnic groups of the world.
The aim of this project is to show the real scale of ethnocultural diversity in a full, systematic and creative way; to illustrate each and every distinctive ethnicity, however small it is, and whatever its political status.
Only ethnicities put on the base of the project, and not countries, to show the multinational picture of the world vividly, which we do not see when focusing only at racial or national typologies that are characteristic for various international competitions or other events. Limiting only by civil affiliation, 90% of existing peoples stay uninvolved, because they are not presented as independent countries.
The project includes photo-portraits and video-interviews of young women representing their ethnicity with accompanying informational note about every people. With the accumulation of the material, it will be published, first of all, on the project's interactive internet platforms (websites, social media, etc). During the realisation and at the end of the project, different exhibitions will be organised; books, DVD and others will be published to promote this initiative.
The beauty of a woman and her peacekeeping nature are used in this project as a peace envoy, which unites all the faces of the human race and calls people to know themselves and the people around them.
The project "The Ethnic Origins of Beauty" received the acknowledgment of UNESCO and was first presented at an exhibition devoted to international women's day in March 2014, at its Parisian headquarters.
