Chris McHugh
Chris McHugh (born 1964) was the drummer of Christian rock band White Heart from 1986 to 1989. He also worked in the recording of several of their later albums.
Chris McHugh is on the Nashville "A" list of session drummers. His recording credits span over twenty years with the top gold and platinum artists of the music industry. He has toured with Amy Grant and Garth Brooks. McHugh has toured as Music Director/drummer for Keith Urban and has been the session drummer for all six of Urban's studio albums.

Keith Urban
Keith Lionel Urban (born 26 October 1967) is a New Zealand-born Australian country music singer, songwriter, guitarist, entrepreneur, and music competition judge. In 1991, he released a self-titled debut album and charted four singles in Australia before moving to the United States the following year. He found work as a session guitarist before starting a band known as The Ranch, which recorded one studio album on Capitol Nashville and charted two singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Still signed to Capitol, Urban made his solo American debut in 1999 with the album Keith Urban. Certified platinum in the US, it produced his first number one on Hot Country Songs with "But for the Grace of God". "Somebody Like You", the first single from his second Capitol album, Golden Road (2002), was named by Billboard as the biggest country hit of the 2000s decade. The album's fourth single, "You'll Think of Me", earned him his first Grammy. 2004's Be Here, his third American album, produced three more number 1 singles and became his highest-selling album, earning 4× Platinum certification. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing was released in 2006, containing "Once in a Lifetime" as well as his second Grammy song, "Stupid Boy". A greatest hits package entitled Greatest Hits: 18 Kids followed in late-2007. Defying Gravity and Get Closer were released on March 31, 2009 and November 16, 2010 respectively. In September 2013, he released a brand new album titled Fuse, which produced four more number ones on the newly introduced Country Airplay chart, two of which are duets with Miranda Lambert and Eric Church. A new single, entitled "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16", was released in June 2015 as the lead-off single to his upcoming eighth American studio album Ripcord.

Show planning/tracking superstar Matt Payne @builtbypayne is Rich's debut guest on episode 4 of #pickrichsbrain.
Matt has been a longtime drum tech for Max Weinberg with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, as well as Kings of Leon, Chris Tomlin, Thomas Rhett and others. He is a master of Ableton and found his true calling with Ableton programming and designing entire shows for various artists, to the extent that he disrupted the "teching" profession and became a leading brand within a whole new industry.
In episode 4, Rich and Matt discuss the mastery of Kenny Aronoff, Chris McHugh and how what you may think you'd like to be within the Nashville music business may not ultimately align with your true north star.
You may not like the pressures of being a studio musician. Some may think anyone could come in and cut 5 songs in 3 hours, but the reality is vastly different. You will realize that your chops aren't as important as your bedside manner, ability, attitude and how easy your are to work with.
Nashville is typically described as a 5 year town. If you're turning down opportunities in year 1-2 because they don't fit what you envision for yourself, there's a strong likelihood that you will lose. But there are people out there who think they can say no when they need to be saying yes to a whole lot more.
