song is "northern girl: by terri clark
About me
I was born in
Grand Rapids, Michigan. My father, mother, brother and I moved to
Sterling, Alaska when I was 6 years old.
Sterling is a very small town of around 4,
000 people. In fact, it was so small that we had to go to the next town to buy grocieries.
I grew up on a mini-farm, so I definitely have a small town, farm girl side to me and everything that comes with that; I love the outdoors, have a self-sufficient and can-do attitude and love animals. During high school, I worked at a family-run gas station and did everything from cashier and making espressos to pumping propane. I returned to Grand Rapids, Michigan for college. I went to
Cornerstone University for one semester, returned home for
Christmas break, crashed my best friend's truck and had to spend money I didn't have to buy it from her.
I decided not to go back to college because I "knew" what I wanted to do and wanted to go to a specialty school that mainly taught the kinds of things that I wanted to learn. But, as we all know about life's twists and turns, instead of going to the new school, I met a guy and didn't want to leave. So from there I worked at gas stations and finally a pizza place which set me in the direction that landed me where I am now (Ahhhh, pizza
... What can't it do?) I really liked getting out of the building and driving around town.
So that's when I decided that I would try trucking. I got a job delivering bread in a tiny little van. The owner didn't seem interested in moving me up to a bigger truck, so I got a job driving a school bus, because they promised to pay for all the training and licensing. I drove school bus for one year then went to every trucking company applying for a job hoping that my
Class B license would help me get my foot in the door. I didn't have much luck for several months, but I nagged the crap out of a few select companies. Carlile was one of those companies and they finally called me. I went in for the interview and said that I was going to drive a big truck someday. They hired me. I started as a van driver doing courier work, but if I got my job done in time I would spend the rest of my work day and even after work learning from the tractor drivers. I would putt around the yard and practice backing trailers.
Finally, after a year or so I took my test and passed with flying colors.
For fun, I love to race dirtbikes, ride horses and whatever else that I get a wild hair to do, such as skydiving and taking hang gliding lessons. I met my future husband while I was buying my
Kawasaki 125. He worked at the shop that I bought the bike. Then we met again at the race track while I was racing. He then asked me to come to
Anchorage and watch him do a dirtbike freestyle show with
Trevor Vines and some other pro freestylers. Our first date ended with
Traves seperating his shoulder. I married Traves (
Travis)
Kelly on
September 26, 2008 after dating him for four years. He is full
Aleut Native Alaskan and an avid dirtbiker.
I have a genuine love for life and want to live it to the fullest with the precious time that
I've been given here on
Earth. I want to be old and have no regrets of the things I haven't done.
Living life to the fullest to me means dreaming big and then going for it, it means being a person that I would want to hang out with, and it means keeping an optimistic view and keeping hope because there really is no
point in living life miserable. One of my favorite things to say is, "I'm the only one living my life, so I'm going to live it to make me happy." I can't live for other people and I hate when other people judge my life because I'm having fun rather then just live their own lives so they are happy with themselves.
I genuinely hope my site is something you enjoy. We keep it positive around here, I try to answer questions on my my forums, and you may even seeme jump into a chat now and then.
Life has be busy these days, but I do make time for all when I can!
Stay positive, be happy, and hope to see and hear from you!
Thank you for taking interest in me. I appreciate all of you.
Lisa:)
