The Cambodian media sector is vibrant and largely unregulated. This situation has led to the establishment of numerous radio, television and print media outlets. Many private sector companies have moved into the media sector, which represents a significant change from many years of state-run broadcasting and publishing.[1]
Since emerging from the communist governments of the
Khmer Rouge and the Vietnam-backed
People's Republic of Kampuchea regime, the Cambodian media sector has become one of
Southeast Asia's liveliest and most free, although a lack of professional journalism training and ethics, and intimidation by both government and private interests, limit the Cambodian media's influence.
National Television of Kampuchea was formed by
National Radio of
Kampuchea and National Television of Kampuchea and is a nationalpublic broadcasting state media government mass media conglomerate of radio and television services in the
Kingdom of Cambodia. It is owned and operated by
Government. It owns and operates about 12 radio stations and one television channel (terrestrial free-to-air) from
Phnom Penh. Local
Network RNK and TVK has 10 radio stations and 12 television stations.
TVK broadcasts nine hours on weekdays and seventeen hours on weekends, on weekdays is separated into two sessions, morning session from 11:30 to 14:30, and evening session from 17:00 to 23:00, and on weekends broadcast in one section from 6:00 to 23:00. Reruns are also broadcast at night.
