In the study of human settlements, an urban agglomeration is an extended city or town area comprising the built-up area of a central place (usually a municipality) and any suburbs linked by continuous urban area. INSEE, the French Statistical Institute, uses the term unité urbaine, which means continuous urbanized area. However, because of differences in definitions of what does and does not constitute an "agglomeration", as well as variations and limitations in statistical or geographical methodology, it can be problematic to compare different agglomerations around the world. It may not be clear, for instance, whether an area should be considered to be a satellite and part of an agglomeration, or a distinct entity in itself.
The term agglomeration is also linked to conurbation, which is a more specific term for large urban clusters where the built-up zones of influence of distinct cities or towns are connected by continuous built-up development (Essen - Dortmund and others in the Rhine-Ruhr district), even in different regions, states or countries, (Lille - Kortrijk in France and Belgium). Each city or town in a conurbation may nevertheless continue to act as an independent focus for a substantial part of the area.

Delhi is officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) that includes the Indian capital New Delhi, stands on the Yamuna River in northern India. It is the second most populous metropolis in India after Mumbai and the largest city in terms of area. Largest Urban Agglomerations (Megacities) of the World
A megacity is usually defined as a metropolitan area with a total population in excess of 10 million people. Some definitions also set a minimum level for population density (at least 2,000 persons/square km). A megacity can be a single metropolitan area or two or more metropolitan areas that converge. The terms conurbation, metropolis and metroplex are also applied to the latter. The terms "megapolis'" and megalopolis are sometimes used synonymously with megacity, though those terms denote a semi-continuous chain of large metropolitan cities.
As of 2011, there are over 20 megacities in existence -- with conurbations such as Mumbai, Tokyo, Seoul, New York City, Mexico City and Karachi having populations in excess of 20 million inhabitants each.
In the 2000s, the largest megacity is the Greater Tokyo Area. The population of this urban agglomeration includes areas such as Yokohama and Kawasaki, and is estimated to be between 35 and 36 million. This variation in estimates can be accounted for by different definitions of what the area encompasses. While the prefectures of Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, and Saitama are commonly included in statistical information, the Japan Statistics Bureau only includes the area within 50 kilometers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices in Shinjuku, thus arriving at a smaller population estimate. A characteristic issue of megacities is the difficulty in defining their outer limits and accurately estimating the populations.
By 2025, according to the Far Eastern Economic Review, Asia alone will have at least 10 megacities, including Mumbai, India (33 million), Shanghai, China (27 million), Karachi, Pakistan (26.5 million), Dhaka, Bangladesh (26 million) and Jakarta, Indonesia (24.9 million people). Lagos, Nigeria has grown from 300,000 in 1950 to an estimated 12.5 million today, and the Nigerian government estimates that the city will have expanded to 25 million residents by 2015. Lahore, Pakistan will also be a megacity in 2025.

Kathmandu is the gateway to tourism in Nepal. It is also the nerve center of the country's economy. It has the most advanced infrastructure of any urban area in Nepal, and its economy is focused on tourism, which accounted for 3.8% of Nepal's GDP in 1995--96. (Tourism in Kathmandu declined thereafter during a period of political unrest, but since then has improved.)
The city has a rich history, spanning nearly 2000 years, as inferred from inscriptions found in the valley. Religious and cultural festivities form a major part of the lives of people residing in Kathmandu. Most of Kathmandu's people follow Hinduism and many others follow Buddhism. There are people of other religious beliefs as well, giving Kathmandu a cosmopolitan culture. Nepali is the most commonly spoken language in the city. Nepal Bhasa is the indigenous language spoken by the Newar people. Hindi is widely understood and English is understood by Kathmandu's educated residents. The city's literacy rate is 98%.
Kathmandu's sister cities (Lalitpur Patan) and Bhaktapur are integral to Kathmandu's cultural heritage, tourism industry, and economy; therefore UNESCO's World Heritage Site lists all three cities' monuments and attractions together under one heading, "Kathmandu Valley-UNESCO World Heritage Site".

The European Commission's URB-AL III Program has the general objective of increasing the degree of social and territorial cohesion at the heart of local and regional Latin American communities.
The "Urban agglomeration in protected areas: methods for promoting socioeconomic development of the population while protecting the environment" project was one of the projects chosen in the third phase of this program.
It aims to reach this objective by bringing together the environmentally protected areas
which exist in the border region between Brazil and Uruguay, improving the quality of life of the populations which live there and reducing social differences.
O Programa URB-AL III da Comissão Europeia tem como objetivo geral contribuir para o aumento do grau de coesão social e territorial, no seio das coletividades locais e regionais na América Latina.

Michael Cohen in this lecture illustrates data about economic growth that demonstrate how cities act as engines of national economic development. Due to agglomeration economies, approximately 80 percent from global GDP is coming out of urban-based economic activities; 600 urban centers generate about 60 percent of global GDP. Yet, without the right focus, agglomeration economies can have deleterious negative externalities, such as harmful environmental effects, urban poverty, and intra-urban inequalities. This lecture suggests that the productive side of the city needs more attention in urban planning. In addition, the lecture addresses the issue of climate change, which represents a major threat to cities.

The Dwarka sub city is one of the recently developed areas situated in South West Delhi District. It was named after the legendary Dwaraka Kingdom and lie in close proximity to the business hubs of Gurgaon.
Dwarka was recently named as the largest suburb in Asia. A few areas of this sub city fall under the colony of Pappan Kalan which is undergoing development under the 'Urban Expansion Projects' of the Delhi Development Authority. This sub city is also known as the one of the largest residential areas in Asia and has a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy towards common misuses of land, encroachments or illegal usage of property which is predominant in most parts of Delhi. It is also referred to as the ‘Model Township’ owing to its most organized, well planned and ‘Clean & Green’ policies that makes it a preferred residential area of Delhi and nearby townships.
Dwarka sub city is known for its wide and well laid road network that easily connects to other parts of the Capital City. Unlike places like Gurgaon or Noida, Dwarka was mainly developed as a primary residential township; however, it also has its share of commercial complexes that cater to the business needs of people as well as well structured shopping arcades, Restaurants and eating joints, departmental stores that cater to all the daily needs of the residents.
The Dwarka sub city offers essential facilities and services such as Hospitals, Educational Institutes, Safety and Security. The only hitch is the drinking and potable water which is a concern created by the Delhi Jal Board and DDA who have not been very organised in their distribution of water; however, this region is still better off in terms of water availability compared to the other parts of the NCR towns including Gurgaon and Noida.
The planned structure of Dwarka includes a well established and self contained community centre for each of the respective residential sectors that have been designed to accommodate a population of about 30,000 residents each. Each Sector is bounded on all sides by corridors of roads measuring 45 m and 60 m wide. Each Sector has its own network of cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways that links the housing societies and their facilities within each sector. The ‘Dwarka Forum’ is a registered forum that assists in connecting a large number of residents, RWA representatives and CGHS Representatives who play very crucial roles in the administration and upkeep of the Housing Societies. All concerns pertaining to the Societies are discussed and solutions are offered through representation and RTI.
Dwarka sub city is located very close to the Indira Gandhi International and Domestic Airports. It borders the National Highway - 8, Najafgarh Road, Pankha Road, Outer Ring Road, and the Rewari Railway link. Places situated close to this sub city include Bijwasan, Delhi cantonment and Janakpuri residential zones, Najafgarh, Palam Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Vikas Puri, Westend and Gurgaon.

Delhi - The Largest Urban Agglomeration Part II - Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli ), also known as the National Capital Territory of India is the capital of India. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of nearly 27 million residents as of 2014,[3] and is the largest urban agglomeration in India by land area and population.
Delhi was the site of ancient Indraprastha (Khandavprastha), the ancient capital of the Pandavas during the Mahabharata.[7] Delhi re-emerged as a major political, cultural and commercial city along the trade routes between northwest India and the Gangetic plain during the Delhi Sultanate era.
There are a number of legends associated with the origin of the name Delhi. One is that it is derived from Dhillu or Dilu, a king who built a city at this location in 50 BC and named it after himself. Another legend holds that the name of the city is based on the Hindi/Prakrit word dhili (loose) and that it was used by the Tomaras to refer to the city because the Iron Pillar of Delhi had a weak foundation and had to be moved.
The area around Delhi was probably inhabited before the second millennium BC, and there is evidence of continuous inhabitation since at least the 6th century BC.[6] The city is believed to be the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata.[7]According to this epic this land was initially a huge mass of forests called 'Kandavaprastha' which was burnt down to build the city of Indraprastha. The earliest architectural relics date back to the Maurya period (c. 300 BC); in 1966, an inscription of the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka (273–235 BC) was discovered near Srinivaspuri.
Delhi features an atypical version of the humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa). The warm season lasts from 9 April to 8 July with an average daily high temperature above 36 °C (97 °F). The hottest day of the year is 22 May, with an average high of 38 °C (100 °F) and low of 25 °C (77 °F).[59] The cold season lasts from 11 December to 11 February with an average daily high temperature below 18 °C (64 °F). The coldest day of the year is 4 January, with an average low of 2 °C (36 °F) and high of 15 °C (59 °F).

Michael Cohen in this lecture illustrates data about economic growth that demonstrate how cities act as engines of national economic development. Due to agglomeration economies, approximately 80 percent from global GDP is coming out of urban-based economic activities; 600 urban centers generate about 60 percent of global GDP. Yet, without the right focus, agglomeration economies can have deleterious negative externalities, such as harmful environmental effects, urban poverty, and intra-urban inequalities. This lecture suggests that the productive side of the city needs more attention in urban planning. In addition, the lecture addresses the issue of climate change, which represents a major threat to cities. Modern developments of a residential and commercial nature, on the outskirts of Delhi in India. The Dwarka sub city is one of the recently developed areas situated in South West Delhi District. It was named after the legendary Dwaraka Kingdom and lie in close proximity to the business hubs of Gurgaon. Dwarka was recently named as the largest suburb in Asia. A few areas of this sub city fall under the colony of Pappan Kalan which is undergoing development under the 'Urban Expansion Projects' of the Delhi Development Authority. This sub city is also known as the one of the largest residential areas in Asia and has a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy towards common misuses of land, encroachments or illegal usage of property which is predominant in most parts of Delhi. It is also referred to as the ‘Model Township’ owing to its most organized, well planned and ‘Clean & Green’ policies that makes it a preferred residential area of Delhi and nearby townships. Dwarka sub city is known for its wide and well laid road network that easily connects to other parts of the Capital City. Unlike places like Gurgaon or Noida, Dwarka was mainly developed as a primary residential township; however, it also has its share of commercial complexes that cater to the business needs of people as well as well structured shopping arcades, Restaurants and eating joints, departmental stores that cater to all the daily needs of the residents. The Dwarka sub city offers essential facilities and services such as Hospitals, Educational Institutes, Safety and Security. The only hitch is the drinking and potable water which is a concern created by the Delhi Jal Board and DDA who have not been very organised in their distribution of water; however, this region is still better off in terms of water availability compared to the other parts of the NCR towns including Gurgaon and Noida. The planned structure of Dwarka includes a well established and self contained community centre for each of the respective residential sectors that have been designed to accommodate a population of about 30,000 residents each. Each Sector is bounded on all sides by corridors of roads measuring 45 m and 60 m wide. Each Sector has its own network of cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways that links the housing societies and their facilities within each sector. The ‘Dwarka Forum’ is a registered forum that assists in connecting a large number of residents, RWA representatives and CGHS Representatives who play very crucial roles in the administration and upkeep of the Housing Societies. All concerns pertaining to the Societies are discussed and solutions are offered through representation and RTI. Dwarka sub city is located very close to the Indira Gandhi International and Domestic Airports. It borders the National Highway - 8, Najafgarh Road, Pankha Road, Outer Ring Road, and the Rewari Railway link. Places situated close to this sub city include Bijwasan, Delhi cantonment and Janakpuri residential zones, Najafgarh, Palam Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Vikas Puri, Westend and Gurgaon. Delhi - The Largest Urban Agglomeration Part II - Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli ), also known as the National Capital Territory of India is the capital of India. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of nearly 27 million residents as of 2014,[3] and is the largest urban agglomeration in India by land area and population. Delhi was the site of ancient Indraprastha (Khandavprastha), the ancient capital of the Pandavas during the Mahabharata.[7] Delhi re-emerged as a major political, cultural and commercial city along the trade routes between northwest India and the Gangetic plain during the Delhi Sultanate era. There are a number of legends associated with the origin of the name Delhi. One is that it is derived from Dhillu or Dilu, a king who built a city at this location in 50 BC and named it after himself. Another legend holds that the name of the city is based on the Hindi/Prakrit word dhili (loose) and that it was used by the Tomaras to refer to the city because the Iron Pillar of Delhi had a weak foundation and had to be moved. The area around Delhi was probably inhabited before the second millennium BC, and there is evidence of continuous inhabitation since at least the 6th century BC.[6] The city is believed to be the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata.[7]According to this epic this land was initially a huge mass of forests called 'Kandavaprastha' which was burnt down to build the city of Indraprastha. INSEE, the French Statistical Institute, uses the term unité urbaine, which means continuous urbanized area. Lahore, Pakistan will also be a megacity in 2025.

There are people of other religious beliefs as well, giving Kathmandu a cosmopolitan culture. Nepali is the most commonly spoken language in the city. Nepal Bhasa is the indigenous language spoken by the Newar people. Hindi is widely understood and English is understood by Kathmandu's educated residents. The city's literacy rate is 98%.
Kathmandu's sister cities (Lalitpur Patan) and Bhaktapur are integral to Kathmandu's cultural heritage, tourism industry, and economy; therefore UNESCO's World Heritage Site lists all three cities' monuments and attractions together under one heading, "Kathmandu Valley-UNESCO World Heritage Site".

The "Urban agglomeration in protected areas: methods for promoting socioeconomic development of the population while protecting the environment" project was one of the projects chosen in the third phase of this program.
It aims to reach this objective by bringing together the environmentally protected areas
which exist in the border region between Brazil and Uruguay, improving the quality of life of the populations which live there and reducing social differences.

Due to agglomeration economies, approximately 80 percent from global GDP is coming out of urban-based economic activities; 600 urban centers generate about 60 percent of global GDP. Yet, without the right focus, agglomeration economies can have deleterious negative externalities, such as harmful environmental effects, urban poverty, and intra-urban inequalities. This lecture suggests that the productive side of the city needs more attention in urban planning. In addition, the lecture addresses the issue of climate change, which represents a major threat to cities.

The Dwarka sub city is one of the recently developed areas situated in South West Delhi District. It was named after the legendary Dwaraka Kingdom and lie in close proximity to the business hubs of Gurgaon.
Dwarka was recently named as the largest suburb in Asia. A few areas of this sub city fall under the colony of Pappan Kalan which is undergoing development under the 'Urban Expansion Projects' of the Delhi Development Authority. This sub city is also known as the one of the largest residential areas in Asia and has a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy towards common misuses of land, encroachments or illegal usage of property which is predominant in most parts of Delhi. It is also referred to as the ‘Model Township’ owing to its most organized, well planned and ‘Clean & Green’ policies that makes it a preferred residential area of Delhi and nearby townships.
Dwarka sub city is known for its wide and well laid road network that easily connects to other parts of the Capital City. Unlike places like Gurgaon or Noida, Dwarka was mainly developed as a primary residential township; however, it also has its share of commercial complexes that cater to the business needs of people as well as well structured shopping arcades, Restaurants and eating joints, departmental stores that cater to all the daily needs of the residents.
The Dwarka sub city offers essential facilities and services such as Hospitals, Educational Institutes, Safety and Security. The only hitch is the drinking and potable water which is a concern created by the Delhi Jal Board and DDA who have not been very organised in their distribution of water; however, this region is still better off in terms of water availability compared to the other parts of the NCR towns including Gurgaon and Noida.
The planned structure of Dwarka includes a well established and self contained community centre for each of the respective residential sectors that have been designed to accommodate a population of about 30,000 residents each. Each Sector is bounded on all sides by corridors of roads measuring 45 m and 60 m wide. Each Sector has its own network of cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways that links the housing societies and their facilities within each sector. The ‘Dwarka Forum’ is a registered forum that assists in connecting a large number of residents, RWA representatives and CGHS Representatives who play very crucial roles in the administration and upkeep of the Housing Societies. All concerns pertaining to the Societies are discussed and solutions are offered through representation and RTI.
Dwarka sub city is located very close to the Indira Gandhi International and Domestic Airports. It borders the National Highway - 8, Najafgarh Road, Pankha Road, Outer Ring Road, and the Rewari Railway link. Places situated close to this sub city include Bijwasan, Delhi cantonment and Janakpuri residential zones, Najafgarh, Palam Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Vikas Puri, Westend and Gurgaon.

Delhi - The Largest Urban Agglomeration Part II - Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli ), also known as the National Capital Territory of India is the capital of India. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of nearly 27 million residents as of 2014,[3] and is the largest urban agglomeration in India by land area and population.
Delhi was the site of ancient Indraprastha (Khandavprastha), the ancient capital of the Pandavas during the Mahabharata.[7] Delhi re-emerged as a major political, cultural and commercial city along the trade routes between northwest India and the Gangetic plain during the Delhi Sultanate era.
There are a number of legends associated with the origin of the name Delhi. One is that it is derived from Dhillu or Dilu, a king who built a city at this location in 50 BC and named it after himself. Another legend holds that the name of the city is based on the Hindi/Prakrit word dhili (loose) and that it was used by the Tomaras to refer to the city because the Iron Pillar of Delhi had a weak foundation and had to be moved.
The area around Delhi was probably inhabited before the second millennium BC, and there is evidence of continuous inhabitation since at least the 6th century BC.[6] The city is believed to be the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata.[7]According to this epic this land was initially a huge mass of forests called 'Kandavaprastha' which was burnt down to build the city of Indraprastha. The earliest architectural relics date back to the Maurya period (c. 300 BC); in 1966, an inscription of the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka (273–235 BC) was discovered near Srinivaspuri.
Delhi features an atypical version of the humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa). The warm season lasts from 9 April to 8 July with an average daily high temperature above 36 °C (97 °F).
