A wiring closet is a small room commonly found in institutional buildings, such as schools and offices, where electrical connections are made. While they are used for many purposes, their most common use is for computer networking where it may be called a Premises Wire Distribution Room. Many types of network connections place limits on the distance between end user equipment, such as personal computers, and network access devices, such as routers. These restrictions might require multiple wiring closets on each floor of a large building.
Equipment that may be found in a wiring closet includes:

This is Part 1 of an in depth look at the renovation of my electrical closet. When we initially moved into our new house, the electrical, alarm, and data panels were in dire need of a rewire to organize the jumbled wires and get some much needed cable management. In this video (Part 1), I have a picture slide show showing all steps of the re-wire from beginning to end including fabrication of the data panel. In the next video (Part 2), I have a video overview of how each component in the re-wired closet works. The project took about 4 to 5 weeks across two summers to complete. The initial work was done in 2011 but I made a small modification to the alarm and data panels within the past year. Cameras: -Panasonic DMZ-S10 (for the images) -Samsung Galaxy S6 Software: -Adobe Premiere Pro

This is the "This Old House" style show that we had always wanted to make. Chuck built a new house in 2000, so we taped the effort as Chuck installs conduit and later wireless and wired networking in the home. The show was produced in 2001 and 2002 and was never aired. We also were in the middle of writing a book titled "Home Networking" for O'Reilly and Associates that was never published - but that is another story.

Meanwhile, engineered lumber specialist Craig Smith shows master carpenter Norm Abram the new framing materials to be used in the new kitchen. Norm, Tom, and host Kevin O'Connor remove the old kitchen walls and install a new 16' beam to open up the space. Master electrician Allen Gallant shows Norm how the shoddy wiring installed over the years has created unsafe conditions and code violations throughout the house. Kitchen showroom co-owner Yael Peleg presents her vision for an "unfitted kitchen," while kitchen designer Donna Venegas shows Kevin and homeowne...
