Adán Sánchez

Adán Santos Sánchez (April 14, 1984 – March 27, 2004) was a popular American-Mexican singer who performed under the stage name Adan "Chalino" Sánchez, honoring his famous father who was assassinated in 1992.

Biography

Sánchez was born in Torrance, California, the son of singer Chalino Sánchez. He was eight years old when his father was kidnapped and killed in the Mexican state of Sinaloa in 1992. Raised by his mother in Paramount, California, he took up singing adopting his father nickname, "Chalino", and gained a strong local fan base among Mexican-American teenagers.

Sánchez recorded his first full-length album in 1994, entitled Soy el Hijo de Chalino, notable for the 10-year-old's brash and assertive vocals; the album's rousing title track, evokes the style of celebrated singers from Mexico's Golden Age. As he grew into his teens, the majority of Sánchez's album titles began to revolve around the loss of his father, i.e. "La Corona de Mi Padre" and "Homenaje a Mi Padre". He was also able to widen the genre's popularity even further to teenage girls, thanks to his teen idol persona and focus on contemporary romantic ballads.

Selling out

Selling out is a common idiomatic pejorative expression for the compromising of a person's integrity, morality, authenticity, or principles in exchange for personal gain, such as money. In terms of music or art, selling out is associated with attempts to tailor material to a mainstream or commercial audience; for example, a musician who alters his material to encompass a wider audience, and in turn generates greater revenue, may be labeled by fans who pre-date the change as a sellout.

In politics

In political movements a "sellout" is a person or group claiming to adhere to one ideology, only to follow these claims up with actions contradicting them, such as a revolutionary group claiming to fight for a particular cause, but failing to continue this upon obtaining power.

An example of political selling out is a political party who has formed a coalition with another party it had historically opposed, such as the Liberal Democrats' leader Nick Clegg's coalition with the Conservative Party after the 2010 general election in the United Kingdom.

Lupillo Rivera

Guadalupe Rivera Saavedra (born January 30, 1972), better known by the stage name Lupillo Rivera is a Mexican-born American singer-songwriter. In 2010, Rivera was awarded a Grammy Award for his album, Tu Esclavo y Amo. He is also the younger brother of deceased Mexican-American singer and actress Jenni Rivera .

Early life

Rivera was born in La Barca, Jalisco to Rosa Saavedra and Pedro Rivera. At the age of four, Lupillo, and the rest of the Rivera family illegally emigrated to Long Beach, California, where Lupillo graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1990.

Career

Rivera wanted to be a restaurant owner. His father Pedro Rivera, however, was a recording label/studio owner (Cintas Acuario). Wanting to give his son a hands-on business experience, Mr. Rivera hired his son Lupillo to work at the studio when a contracted singer failed to show up for a recording session.

Lupillo was given the task of looking for local talent at bars, with the idea that some of that talent could be signed by his father's company.

Chalino Sánchez

Rosalino"Chalino" Sánchez (August 30, 1960 – May 16, 1992) was a Mexican singer and songwriter perhaps best known for his narcocorrido recordings. On May 16, 1992, he was murdered in Culiacán, the capital city of the Pacific coastal state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Since his death, his fame and recordings have grown in popularity.

Early life

Sánchez was born in and raised in Las Flechas, a very small community known as a "rancho" located in the municipality of Culiacán in Sinaloa, Mexico. His father, Santos Sánchez, and mother, Sannorina Felix, had nine children: Armando, Chalino, Sergio, Espiridión, Francisco, Juana, Lázaro, Lucas, and Régulo. From an early age, Sánchez experienced poverty and tragedy. At the age of 6, his father died, and his sister, Juana, was raped by a local "mafioso"(gangster) At the age of 15 Rosalino was at a local party and encountered the rapist. He walked up to him without saying a word and shot him to death. He would later immigrate to the US state of California to escape Mexican authorities.
