Yoshimi Watanabe (渡辺 喜美, Watanabe Yoshimi, born 17 March 1952) is a Japanese politician, formerly of the Liberal Democratic Party and later the founder of Your Party. He is a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature).
Watanabe is a native of Nishinasuno, Nasu District, Tochigi (now part of the city of Nasushiobara) and graduated from Waseda University and Chuo University.
His father is Michio Watanabe, a major political figure first elected to the Diet while Watanabe was in junior high school.
Watanabe developed an interest in politics soon after his father was elected to office, and served as his father's secretary during the elder Watanabe's appointments as Minister of International Trade and Industry and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Yoshimi Watanabe's nephew Michitaro Watanabe is also a politician (member of the House of Councilors).
Following his father's death in 1995, Watanabe was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in the 1996 general election, representing the Tochigi 3rd district, a newly created seat in his father's previous constituency in Tochigi Prefecture. Watanabe continues to represent the district today and is the only person to have held the seat, having successfully defended it in five subsequent general elections.

Ayuo, Rutsuko Kumasaka, Yoshimi Watanabe - Voice (Koe) This is a music composition by the accordion player Rutsuko Kumasaka. I wrote new words and sung them. Many people in the ancient times in the Middle East and other places never spoke aloud the names of gods and goddesses, or people who were the most important to them. By keeping the names of those who are the most important within their hearts, their feeling towards them grew stronger. This is about such a feeling. Listening back to this performance I found the middle parts of this song to be especially quite moving. Oten when performing, a strength that is greater than yourself seems to enter into you. One way to practice for performance is to develop ways of allowing the body to accept this strength that seems to come from the uni...

For more on what the prime minister said and didn't say, our Kim Hyun-bin reports. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe did not give a straightforward answer when asked about a possible visit to the controversial Yasukuni shrine. The prime minister said that it is natural for a Japanese leader to pay homage to those who lost their lives in service of their country.
