The Walls are an Irish rock band. They were formed in 1998 by two ex-members of The Stunning.
Brothers Steve and Joe Wall (previously of The Stunning) returned to Ireland after a two-year failed label stint in London. Their Camden housemate Carl Harms joined the band on guitar and keyboard duties. Drummer Rory Doyle joined soon afterwards. They set up their own label, Earshot Records (later changing it to Dirtbird Records) and recorded and released a string of singles. A remix of one of the album tracks, "Bone Deep", clicked with radio and became a nationwide hit. Many of the songs have featured on a number of TV series and feature films such as Bachelors Walk, Dead Bodies, Goldfish Memory and On the Edge (starring Cillian Murphy).
The Walls heard rumour of a second Slane Castle date for U2 (as the first concert had sold out in hours). They sent four copies of their album to the band. Bono loved it and offered The Walls a support slot. That day the band played to their biggest crowd to date – around 80,000 people. "To the Bright and Shining Sun" was their next single. That June they supported Red Hot Chili Peppers. They spent the next year gigging while building their own studio in Dublin.

I'll buy you six bay mares to put in your stable ---
six golden apples bought with my pay.
I am the first piper who calls the sweet tune,
but I must be gone by the seventh day.
So come on, I'm the whistler.
I have a fife and a drum to play.
Get ready for the whistler.
I whistle along on the seventh day ---
whistle along on the seventh day.
All kinds of sadness I've left behind me.
Many's the day when I have done wrong.
But I'll be yours for ever and ever.
Climb in the saddle and whistle along.
So come on, I'm the whistler.
I have a fife and a drum to play.
Get ready for the whistler.
I whistle along on the seventh day ---
whistle along on the seventh day.
Deep red are the sun-sets in mystical places.
Black are the nights on summer-day sands.
We'll find the speck of truth in each riddle.
Words and music by fraser and rogers
I went down to the center of town
Beneath my feet was the burning ground
Just stood on the corner as sexy as could be
Said "hey good looking, walk away with me"
I said "yeah, I'm your stealer,
Come to steal your love."
Sun was shining, the world was bright,
I said, "tell me darling, where you gonna be tonight? "
"goin' around the corner, where the music's loud.
I'm tired of the city, gonna cat me around."
And I said "yeah, I'm your stealer,
I come to steal your love."
I come to
I come to steal
Goin' around the corner, where the music's loud.
I'm tired of the city, gonna cat me around.
And I said "yeah, I'm your stealer
I come to steal your love.
I'm stealin'...let me steal now...come steal it...
Over there
In the cold
Stands the Hustler
His eyes are old
He has seen a million ugly scenes
Places where men droop with mould
The backrooms
Where soiled goods are sold
Seen with opened eyes since frail fifteen
He has found it hard at first
But on his brow there sits a curse
For when the young must suffer
At the hands of men
Memories of Christmas past
Were never there to ever last
Things as were can never
Be again
Over there
By the wall
Stands the Hustler
He's not very tall
He's trampled by the jaded by the sly
He's seen the darker side of men
First fascinated and then
He found his urge to laugh
An urge to cry
He'll find close friends
No friend at all
He feels so lonely, tired and small
How few are chosen from
The golden call
There's something in us all it seems
To crave adventure
Hunt for dreams
But corruption the seducer spoils our schemes
And surely as the snow will melt
The Hustler
Grabs his soul and heads for home
With lessons learnt under his belt
Over there
By the wall
Stands the Hustler
With the men of law
On either side to flank the sallow youth
But some of us will never learn
It takes the blow of fists to burn
She got the hot light shining on you
The kids are sleeping now she's making her move
She gets dirty from the Frederick's store
You fall asleep because you've seen it before
Stealer, I will take her away
Stealer, I take her far away
Stealer, I will take her away from you
Don't like to go to downtown bars
Them single ladies make me work too hard
I watch the suburbs and the laundramats
I watch the husbands as I sneak out the back
Stealer, I will take her away
Stealer, I take her far away
I went down to the centre of town
And my feet was a burning ground
She stood on the corner merrily as can be
I said hey good lookin won't you come with me
She said yeah
I am the stealer
Came to steal your love
The sun was shining
The world was right
I said "tell me baby wha'cha doin' tonight"
I'm goin' round the corner
Where the music's loud
I'm tired of the city
Won't you come on round
I said yeah!
I'm the stealer
Come to steal your love
Steal your love oh yeah!
Goin' round the corner
Where the music's loud
I'm tired of the city
Won't you come on round
I said yeah
I am the stealer
Come to steal your love
Steal your love
Steal your love
Steal your love
I am going to steal you love away
I am going to steal you love away
The whistle over continent
The whistle over hills away
The whistle over acres and the green hills so far away
The whistle over river and the trees when the autumn
leaves
The whistle of the car on the highway must be the
police
Some people just don't know how to drive
Some people just don't know how to drive
Out to see a single heart
How do you know it is in realtime
It's easy enough to load-down
We are better off together
We are better off together
Cos you never know what's a comin' round the bend
You never know what's a comin' round the bend
The whisper of the wind
Fill the sails it's a tropical night
A mental rocket astronaut
Is heading for the stars in the sky
The whisper of the jet plane
And the rain symphony
The whisper of the killer on the run
Might be looking for me
Some people just know how to survive
Some people just know how to survive
Tomorrow'll be a better day
Yeah, tomorrow'll be a good day
Tomorrow'll be a great day
We are better off together
We are better off together
Cos you never know what's a comin' round the bend
You never know what's a comin' round the bend
Some people just don't know how to drive
Some people just don't know how to drive
Out to see a single heart
How do you know it is in realtime
It's easy enough to load-down
We are better off together
We are better off together
Cos you never know what's a comin' round the bend
You never know what's a comin' round the bend
It's the future of yours that I'm talking about
It's the future of mine that I'm talking about
It's the future of yours that I'm talking about
Beloved mother
There is no guilt
In what I have done
It's far too late
To turn it back
To turn it back
Slowly they move
One by one
Food for the clan
Your kingdom will come
Slowly they're marching
One by one
Follow my magic tune
It is so easy
Her eyes
Her pale cold eyes
Are watching over me
I've never felt alone
All the children
For her glory
A fair price and
The deal was fixed
I did my part
And they betrayed
I cleared their problem well
But I trusted lies
chorus:
All your children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
Praise and glory to the clan
Watch your step I'll bring the end
Rats repeat their feast
Queen will be quite pleased
All your children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
Praise the glorious race of rats
One by one they'll join their dance
Hungry souls they shall be fed
Praise the wisdom of the rats
All the children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
Now you know fear
Face the unknown
Dwell in tears
The story's told
You may have learned
Dare not to betray
The whistler
You should consider
You might fail
You should consider
You might fail
All your children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
Praise the glorious race of rats
One by one they’ll
Join their dance
All your children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
All your children went astray
Pay the price for ignorance
Food for the clan
Escape my soul the empty world
Is for you and behind you
Too many prophets burn in flames
Relive the book of blood
I told you
I have sworn to kill
The daemon of the higher ground
Flying free from hell
Division of the Southern Point
Black army of delusion
The day messiah walk the earth
I live the book of blood
Born dead, in a misty rain
Blood is shed eternally
True evil in my veins
I deny your slavery
Until the end
I don't believe a god
Don't believe in God!
I told you
I am born to kill
Revenge for all my suffering
I burn your God in hell
I've got something with me
My soul's kinda gritty
Now do I lie or run away
Engine, engine number 9
You get your way
Or I'll get mine
Sure as the sun will shine each day
Just like the apple
Temptress sets in
I win you're tackled
Shackles on my feet won't let me move
Not soft but supple
Come with all you got
My wings won't ruffle
Victory is sweet but I ain't scared to lose
In my house the moon still shines in the day
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house feel free to dance like it's May
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
Mama can you hear me?
Papa I'm sittin' pretty
Don't have to shun my heart this time
I know when it really matters
It'll be me alone and regrets will be none
Just like the apple, temptress sets in
I win you're tackled
Shackles on my feet won't let me move
Not soft but supple
Come with all you got
My wings won't ruffle
Victory is sweet but I ain't scared to lose
In my house the moon still shines in the day
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house feel free to dance like it's May
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
I'll be on my own, it don't matter I'm grown
I won't be singin' no sad song in the lay
And if I rub you wrong, baby, I come on strong
I got no mind to cushion what I say
In my house the moon still shines in the day
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house feel free to dance like it's May
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house the moon still shines in the day
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house feel free to dance like it's May
But there's a lot 'a old bills I gotta pay
In my house
(In the day)
In my house
(Won't you stay)
In my house
(In my house)
In my house
The room will shine
