Elvin Ray Jones (September 9, 1927 – May 18, 2004) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. He showed an interest in drums at a young age, watching the circus bands march by his family's home in Pontiac, Michigan.
He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1949 and subsequently played in a Detroit houseband led by Billy Mitchell. He moved to New York in 1955 and worked as a sideman for Charles Mingus, Teddy Charles, Bud Powell and Miles Davis.
From 1960 to 1966 he was a member of the John Coltrane quartet (along with Jimmy Garrison on bass and McCoy Tyner on piano), a celebrated recording phase, appearing on such albums as A Love Supreme. Following his work with Coltrane, Jones led several small groups, some under the name The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. His brothers Hank Jones and Thad Jones were also jazz musicians with whom he recorded. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995.
Elvin Jones was born in Pontiac, Michigan to parents Henry and Olivia Jones, who had moved to Michigan from Vicksburg, Mississippi. His brothers, Hank Jones and Thad Jones, both became important jazz musicians. By age two he said he knew he held a fascination for drums. He would watch the circus marching band parades go by his home as a boy, particularly fascinated by the drummers. Following his early passion, Elvin joined his high school's black marching band, where he developed his foundation in rudiments. Jones began service in the United States Army in 1946. He was discharged in 1949, and returned home penniless. Jones said he borrowed thirty-five dollars from his sister when he got back to buy his first drumset.

Plot: Marvin, a heavy-drinking widower who has seen better days and now ekes out a living at odd jobs, meets Tige, an 11-year-old black boy about to kill himself because his mother has just died. With nowhere else to stay, Tige moves in with Marvin and they develop a close (if sometimes stormy) relationship which is good for both of them. Marvin wants to adopt Tige but knows that he is too poor to give him a good home, as becomes painfully clear when Tige catches pneumonia. Then he discovers who Tige's father is: a rich suburbanite who doesn't even know that Tige exists. Should he, and can he, give up the boy he loves, and who loves him, in favor of a stranger with the right genes and bank balance but who doesn't care?

Plot: John Broderick, wealthy bachelor, globe trotter and devotee of outdoor sports, is seated in his den enjoying a pipe and a magazine when his Japanese valet hands him a letter which proves to be a turning point in his life. It is from his life-long friend, Samuel Farley. Farley is dying and writes to Broderick that he has appointed Broderick the guardian of his young daughter and looks to him to bring her up in proper fashion. One day Louise Farley arrives unannounced. When Broderick returns home and finds this bit of budding womanhood on his hands he is considerably perplexed. He turns her over to his housekeeper, and wonders how be is going to adapt himself to the new conditions. But time goes on. Louise forces her way into his heart deeper than he realizes. He sends her away to boarding school, and takes himself off to hunt in Africa, to overcome a loneliness which her absence makes him suddenly realize. Finally the day of her graduation arrives and he hurries home to receive her. At school Louise has become interested in young Dick Davis, and invites him to call on her at Broderick's borne. On seeing the girl again Broderick is overwhelmed with the realization that he loves her, not as a father, but as a lover. Dick arrives, and one evening Broderick inadvertently surprises the two in a lover's embrace. He then bravely acknowledges to himself that youth must needs seek youth, and that he must not stand in the way of his ward's happiness. He manfully turns Louise over to Dick, and once more seeks the solace of the bachelor's pipe and fireside.

The short-lived Tax Free consisted of Wally Tax (vocals), David Oliphanr (guitar), Jody Purpora (vocals, guitar) and Leendert Busch (drums). Tax and Busch had both been members of legendary Dutch band The Outsiders, who'd broken up in mid-1969. They soon befriended the British-born Oliphant and the US-born Purpora in Amsterdam and - together with Ray Gordel - began to jam in a studio beneath a railway bridge, though they had to play in the dead of night to avoid the noise of passing trams. With management in place, in the spring of 1970 they travelled to New York, where they stayed in the infamous Chelsea Hotel. Having secured a record deal through contacts at Radio Luxemburg, they returned to NY that September (without Gordell) and set about taping an album at Jimi Hendrix's recently co...

On this Monday, January 13 edition of the Alex Jones Show, Alex breaks down the latest on the West Coast radiation and the tensions flaring in the South China Sea. China is preparing to take Philippine-occupied Thitu Island by force with an invasion which will likely start a regional war at the very least. From the other side of the Pacific, physician and chemical expert Dr. Richard Davis, M.D. joins the show to discuss the dangers of Fukushima's high-level radiation which is now on the West Coast. On the scene at the Golden Gate bridge, Jakari Jackson and the Infowars crew report on the public's reaction to how the local media is downplaying this radiation. Alex also takes your calls throughout the broadcast. http://www.infowars.com/ http://prisonplanet.tv/news/ http://conspiracyscop...
