Joseph
"Joseph" is a masculine given name originating from Hebrew, recorded in the Hebrew Bible, as יוֹסֵף, Standard Hebrew Yossef, Tiberian Hebrew and Aramaic Yôsēp̄. In Arabic, including in the Qur'an, the name is spelled يوسف or Yūsuf. The name can be translated from Hebrew יהוה להוסיף YHWH Lhosif as signifying "JEHOVAH will increase/add".
In the Old Testament, Joseph is Jacob's eleventh son and Rachel's first (Yossef ben-Yaakov in the Jewish Bible). In the New Testament, Joseph is the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. In the New Testament there is another Joseph as well, Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus who supplied the tomb in which Jesus was buried.
The form "Joseph" is used mostly in English, French and German-speaking countries. The name has enjoyed significant popularity in its many forms in numerous countries, and Joseph was one of the two names, along with Robert, to have remained in the top 10 boys' names list in the US from 1925 to 1972. It is especially common in contemporary Israel, as either "Yossi" or "Yossef", and in Italy, where the name "Giuseppe" was the most common male name in the 20th century.

Saint Joseph
Joseph (Hebrew יוֹסֵף, Yosef; Greek: Ἰωσήφ, Ioseph) is a figure in the Gospels, the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, and is venerated as Saint Joseph in the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, Anglican Communion, Lutheranism and Methodism. Christian tradition places Joseph as Jesus' foster father. Some historians state that Joseph was Jesus's father. Some differing views are due to theological interpretations versus historical views.
The Pauline epistles make no reference to Jesus's father; nor does the Gospel of Mark. The first appearance of Joseph is in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Each contains a genealogy of Jesus showing ancestry from king David, but through different sons; Matthew follows the major royal line from Solomon, while Luke traces another line back to Nathan, another son of David and Bathsheba. Consequently, all the names between David and Joseph are different. According to Matthew 1:16 "Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary", while according to Luke 3:23, Joseph is said to be "[the son] of Heli". Some scholars reconcile the genealogies by viewing the Solomonic lineage in Matthew as Joseph's major royal line, and the Nathanic lineage in Luke to be Mary's minor line.

The First Mystery: The Betrothal to Mary
Let us contemplate in this mystery how the Blessed Virgin Mary was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, beginning a loving partnership, not of carnal embrace but of a most loving affection, not of a union of bodies but a communion of souls; Through the intercession of Joseph, may we come to understand the true meaning of marital love and thereby strengthen our families.
The Second Mystery: The Annunciation to Joseph
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph being a righteous man had decide to divorce our Lady quietly when she was found with child, and how the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and declared unto him that the child had been conceived through the power of Holy Spirit. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we be courageous in our duties to God and each other.
The Third Mystery: The Birth and Naming of Jesus
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph went up to Bethlehem with Mary, and while they were there, in the city of David, she gave birth to the Savior, Christ the Lord. And when eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus. the intercession of Joseph, may we obtain the grace of greater reverence to the name which is above all names, the only name in which we claim salvation, the name of Jesus Christ the Lord.
The Fourth Mystery: The Flight into Egypt
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph, being a devoted spouse and guardian of the Holy Family, took Jesus and Mary to Egypt. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we be devoted to: Jesus and Mary, and the protection of the most vulnerable among us.
The Fifth Mystery: The Hidden Life at Nazareth
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph took Jesus and Mary to Nazareth and there lived a quiet life working as a carpenter with Jesus and Mary at his side, through the joys and sorrows of everyday life, until the end. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we have a happy life and peaceful death with Jesus and Mary always at our side.

O Blessed Joseph, yours the praise The choirs of angels sing,

The prophets told of God to come: The Son of God on earth;
Yours was the glory then to be There at the Savior’s birth.

Joseph
"Joseph" is a masculine given name originating from Hebrew, recorded in the Hebrew Bible, as יוֹסֵף, Standard Hebrew Yossef, Tiberian Hebrew and Aramaic Yôsēp̄. In Arabic, including in the Qur'an, the name is spelled يوسف or Yūsuf. The name can be translated from Hebrew יהוה להוסיף YHWH Lhosif as signifying "JEHOVAH will increase/add".
In the Old Testament, Joseph is Jacob's eleventh son and Rachel's first (Yossef ben-Yaakov in the Jewish Bible). In the New Testament, Joseph is the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. In the New Testament there is another Joseph as well, Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus who supplied the tomb in which Jesus was buried.
The form "Joseph" is used mostly in English, French and German-speaking countries. The name has enjoyed significant popularity in its many forms in numerous countries, and Joseph was one of the two names, along with Robert, to have remained in the top 10 boys' names list in the US from 1925 to 1972. It is especially common in contemporary Israel, as either "Yossi" or "Yossef", and in Italy, where the name "Giuseppe" was the most common male name in the 20th century.

The First Mystery: The Betrothal to Mary
Let us contemplate in this mystery how the Blessed Virgin Mary was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, beginning a loving partnership, not of carnal embrace but of a most loving affection, not of a union of bodies but a communion of souls; Through the intercession of Joseph, may we come to understand the true meaning of marital love and thereby strengthen our families.
The Second Mystery: The Annunciation to Joseph
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph being a righteous man had decide to divorce our Lady quietly when she was found with child, and how the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and declared unto him that the child had been conceived through the power of Holy Spirit. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we be courageous in our duties to God and each other.
The Third Mystery: The Birth and Naming of Jesus
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph went up to Bethlehem with Mary, and while they were there, in the city of David, she gave birth to the Savior, Christ the Lord. And when eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus. the intercession of Joseph, may we obtain the grace of greater reverence to the name which is above all names, the only name in which we claim salvation, the name of Jesus Christ the Lord.
The Fourth Mystery: The Flight into Egypt
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph, being a devoted spouse and guardian of the Holy Family, took Jesus and Mary to Egypt. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we be devoted to: Jesus and Mary, and the protection of the most vulnerable among us.
The Fifth Mystery: The Hidden Life at Nazareth
Let us contemplate in this mystery how Joseph took Jesus and Mary to Nazareth and there lived a quiet life working as a carpenter with Jesus and Mary at his side, through the joys and sorrows of everyday life, until the end. Through the intercession of Joseph, may we have a happy life and peaceful death with Jesus and Mary always at our side.

O Blessed Joseph, yours the praise The choirs of angels sing,
The guardian of the Virgin blest, And of her Child and King.
The prophets told of God to come: The Son of God on earth;
Yours was the glory then to be There at the Savior’s birth.
To him, the Father’s only Son You served as father here;
He was subjected to your will He, whom the heavens revere.
As once you sought and found again The Christ, the Lord of light;
So may we walk with him, like you All humble in his sight.
O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, The God of truth and grace,
By holy Joseph’s prayers grant That we may see your face.
Pray for us O Blessed Joseph,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Almighty and eternal God, grant, we beseech thee, that by meditating upon the mysteries of the Rosary of Saint Joseph, we may imitate his prayerful trust, and faithfully carry out your holy will, despite difficulties, uncertainties, and fears. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Friends, we come to the wonderful Feast of the Holy Family. Over the years on this feast day, I’ve certainly preached on the dynamics of the Holy Family, on Mary, and of course on the Lord, but I don't think I’ve ever focused on St. Joseph. Well, that ends today. Let’s look at four dimensions to the holiness of this greatest male saint in the history of the Church.
