Engine

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy.Heat engines, including internal combustion engines and external combustion engines (such as steam engines), burn a fuel to create heat, which then creates a force. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion; pneumatic motors use compressed air and others—such as clockwork motors in wind-up toys—use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and eventually motion.

Terminology

The word "engine" derives from Old French engin, from the Latin ingenium–the root of the word ingenious. Pre-industrial weapons of war, such as catapults, trebuchets and battering rams, were called "siege engines", and knowledge of how to construct them was often treated as a military secret. The word "gin", as in "cotton gin", is short for "engine". Most mechanical devices invented during the industrial revolution were described as engines—the steam engine being a notable example.

Ray Alder

Ray Alder (born as Ray Balderrama on August 20, 1967) has been the lead vocalist of the progressive metal band Fates Warning since their 1988 release No Exit.

He has released two albums Engine in 1999 and Superholic in 2002 with Engine.

He also sang on Redemption's albums The Origins of Ruin, The Fullness of Time, Snowfall on Judgment Day and This Mortal Coil, having produced their debut self-titled release in 2002.

He has recently worked with underground emcee/producer Necro for his album entitled Death Rap.

Ray Alder was featured at a show with the band Dream Theater at Los Angeles, California on May 18, 1998.

On March 16, 2010, Fates Warning released a deluxe edition of their 1991 album, Parallels. This edition has been fully re-mastered and contains over three hours of music and live footage. Parallels was one of Fates Warning's most successful releases due to the commercial success of the singles Eye To Eye, Point Of View and We Only Say Goodbye. According to Metal Blade records (2010) Parallels has proven to be one of the most influential albums in the prog and metal genres, despite its hotly debated status among fans as a "commercial" sounding album. Commenting on the album, Ray Alder is quoted on the "Metal Blade Records Website".  as follows, "I think it's one of the best albums we ever put out and I'm happy that fans have the chance to take a second look at this important record. The lineup, the songs and the cover art all came together to make a great package when originally recorded and the bonus DVD really adds a fresh perspective to the album."

Engine (TV series)

Engine (エンジン, Enjin) is a Japanese television drama series from Fuji Television, first shown in Japan from 18 April to 27 June 2005.

Plot

Kanzaki Jiro (Takuya Kimura) (who used to be a star driver back in Japan) is a backup F3000 driver in Europe. During a practice run, he accidentally crashes into his first driver and loses his job. No other club in Europe would hire him as he is deemed too old for the sports. He has no choice but to return to Japan to his previous racing team. Unfortunately, the team now has a better and younger driver, and feels Jiro has nothing more to contribute to the team, and do not want him back.

He goes back to stay with his foster father and sister, and finds out his foster father has converted their home into an orphanage for unfortunate children whose parents are unable to take care of them. Tomomi Sensei (Koyuki), is a newly hired caregiver at the orphanage. She is not popular with the children as she does not seem to understand their feelings and makes misguided attempts to help them. Jiro, on the other hand, was an orphan himself, and being a big kid at heart is able to click with the children.

Off!

Off! is an American hardcore punk supergroup, formed in Los Angeles in 2009.

History

Off! was formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. The idea to form the band came after Coats had worked as producer on a Circle Jerks album which fell apart. During that time, Coats and Morris had written several songs together which they used to start Off!. The group made its live debut at the 2010 South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Off!'s first Los Angeles show featured an original art installation by Raymond Pettibon at a downtown warehouse space.

The first release by Off! is a 7" vinyl EP called 1st EP, which debuted on October 13, 2010. That EP, along with three more EPs, were later released as a four 7" vinyl box set entitled First Four EPs on December 14, 2010. The collection contains sixteen songs and features artwork by Raymond Pettibon.

Off (album)

Off is the latest album of Kurdish artist Ciwan Haco. It has been released in April 2006 in Europe. It features 13 songs, including the electro-pop Li hêviya te and several ballads. All songs are mainly sung in the Kurdish language, although a small part of the song "Li hêviya te" features brief French language vocals (though sung by a woman, and not by Ciwan Haco himself).

Agallah

Agallah (also known as 8-Off the Assassin, Don Bishop, Swagallah, or Brad Piff), born Angel Aguilar, May 8, 1974, is an American rapper who was a member of The Diplomats-affiliated group Purple City and the group Propain campaign. He was formerly known as 8-Off Agallah, but changed the name because it was controversial; 8-Off is a variation of the name Adolf.

He has ghostwritten songs for many well-known artists. In addition to producing his own music, he also produced tracks for Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, The Diplomats, Guru, Rockin' Squat, Sean Price, Saigon, Game Theory, Mobb Deep and Big Pun. In 1996, he finished his debut album, Wrap Your Lips Around This, but it was never properly released because the album was shelved. In 2012, Wrap Your Lips Around This became available for digital download from Amazon.com and iTunes after being unreleased for many years.

History

A native of Brooklyn's Brownsville Projects, Agallah started out as a producer, then turned to rhyming and released a major-label single on East West America/Elektra Records in 1995. In 1997, he featured on R.A. the Rugged Man's track "Till My Heart Stops" on the Rawkus Records Soundbombing compilation an underground classic . A collaboration with Mr. Cheeks of the Lost Boyz followed, although the album the single was to appear on, Wrap Your Lips Around This, was never released. Additionally, there were production stints for the likes of EPMD, Das EFX, Onyx, and Group Home. In 2000, Agallah recorded the Sesame Street-themed single "Crookie Monster," which became an underground hit, and featured production by The Alchemist.

Coaster (album)

Coaster (released on vinyl as Frisbee) is the eleventh studio album by the American punk rock band NOFX. It was released on April 28, 2009 through Fat Wreck Chords.

Writing and production

Writing and recording sessions for Coaster took place from November 2008 to February 2009. The band worked with Bill Stevenson, who produced Wolves in Wolves' Clothing (2006) and Self Entitled (2012).

Release

The album was the first new Fat Wreck Chords release priced under $10 in the US under the label's new promise that all CDs from the label would cost under $10, with many priced less than $8. Regarding the label's new pricing model, NOFX lead singer and Fat Wreck Chords owner Fat Mike stated the following:

Some of those who preordered the album through the Fat Wreck Chords website also received a limited edition, hand-numbered CD with two bonus tracks.

The album was simultaneously released on vinyl under the title Frisbee with alternative artwork. As with the CD release, vinyl preorders came with a bonus 7-inch single with the same two bonus tracks. The vinyl release also came with a free MP3 download of the album.
