Engine tuning is an adjustment, modification of the internal combustion engine or modification to its control unit, otherwise known as its ECU (Engine Control Unit). It is performed to yield optimal performance, to increase an engine's power output, economy, or durability. These goals may be mutually exclusive, and an engine may be detuned with respect to output (work) in exchange for better economy or longer engine life due to lessened stress on engine components.
It has a long history, almost as long as the development of the automobile in general, originating with the development of early racing cars, and later, with the post-war hot-rod movement. Tuning can describe a wide variety of adjustments and modifications, from the routine adjustment of the carburetor and ignition system to significant engine overhauls. At the other end of the scale, performance tuning of an engine can involve revisiting some of the design decisions taken at quite an early stage in the development of the engine.
Roadkill is an animal or animals that have been struck and killed by motor vehicles driven by humans on highways. It is important because of the loss of wild animals, road safety, and the economic impact on both drivers and road management. For this reason it has increasingly become the topic of academic research to understand the causes, and how it can be mitigated. Some roadkill can also be eaten.
During the early 20th century, roadkill or "flat meats" (or "highway pizza") became a common sight in most industrialized First World nations, as they adopted the internal combustion engine and the automobile. One of the earliest observers of roadkill was the naturalist Joseph Grinnell, who noted in 1920: "This [roadkill] is a relatively new source of fatality; and if one were to estimate the entire mileage of such roads in the state [California], the mortality must mount into the hundreds and perhaps thousands every 24 hours."
In Europe and North America, deer are the animal most likely to cause vehicle damage. In Australia, specific actions taken to protect against the variety of animals that can damage vehicles – such as bullbars (usually known in Australia as 'roo bars', in reference to kangaroos) – indicate the Australian experience has some unique features with road kill.
A day is a unit of time. In common usage, it is an interval equal to 24 hours. It also can mean the consecutive period of time during which the Sun is above the horizon, also known as daytime. The period of time during which the Earth completes one rotation with respect to the Sun is called a solar day.
Several definitions of this universal human concept are used according to context, need and convenience. In 1967, the second was redefined in terms of the wavelength of light, and was designated the SI base unit of time. The unit of measurement "day", redefined in 1967 as 86 400 SI seconds and symbolized d, is not an SI unit, but is accepted for use with SI. A civil day is usually also 86 400 seconds, plus or minus a possible leap second in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and, in some locations, occasionally plus or minus an hour when changing from or to daylight saving time. The word day may also refer to a day of the week or to a calendar date, as in answer to the question "On which day?" The life patterns of humans and many other species are related to Earth's solar day and the day-night cycle (see circadian rhythms).
Garage may refer to:
An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy.Heat engines, including internal combustion engines and external combustion engines (such as steam engines), burn a fuel to create heat, which then creates a force. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion; pneumatic motors use compressed air and others—such as clockwork motors in wind-up toys—use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and eventually motion.
The word "engine" derives from Old French engin, from the Latin ingenium–the root of the word ingenious. Pre-industrial weapons of war, such as catapults, trebuchets and battering rams, were called "siege engines", and knowledge of how to construct them was often treated as a military secret. The word "gin", as in "cotton gin", is short for "engine". Most mechanical devices invented during the industrial revolution were described as engines—the steam engine being a notable example.

Remember the Dodge 360 small-block engine from Roadkill Garage episodes 3 and 4? It was later run on the dyno for Engine Masters episode 14, and then rebuilt, hopped up, and retested for a future Engine Masters. But the machine shop screwed it up pretty badly, so here’s an update from the set of Roadkill Garage on what’s coming next for the powerplant that is supposed to end up in the Vanishing Paint Challenger. Check out the Mighty Car Mods side of the story here: https://youtu.be/NoBnwKu5g5U This is the episode fans of Roadkill and Mighty Car Mods have been demanding for two years! It’s also a bonus episode of Roadkill powered by Dodge—the 13th installment of the 2016 season! David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan finally got together with Marty and Moog of Mighty Car Mods, Australia’s most popular YouTube show for gearheads. The four guys came to an agreement: RK would build the most American car possible for the MCM blokes, and then Marty and Moog would assemble an absurd icon of Mighty Modding for the Roadkill boys. Both teams gave all: Roadkill jammed together a 1969 Chevy Impala stuffed with the supercharged, 489ci big-block Chevy that was formerly in the Crusher Camaro; and Mighty Car Mods ha...
Roadkill survived 50 episodes! In that time, we’ve built a whole lot of cars, and in this episode we’ve got a shootout of the 10 that are still running and driving (and that have appeared on the show since our similar competition for the 25th episode). Fans asked for this, so we delivered! It’s the very least we can do to thank all of you who have watched our show over the last four years. Big thanks to Dodge for keeping us going, too, and to supporting sponsors CRC, Jegs, Lincoln Tech, Cooper Tires, Pioneer and Optima Batteries! The cars in this episode are the NAScarlo from Episode 46; the Mazdarati from Episode 45; the Raunchero from Episodes 2, 13, 14, 25, and 32; the Crop Duster from Episode 40 and Roadkill Garage Episode 2; Stubby Bob from Episode 44; Harry from Episode 48; the Musc...
On this episode of Roadkill powered by Dodge, both David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan get their dream car! Who wins that game is up to you: Is it Finnegan with his 1968 Datsun 520 mini-truck, or Freiburger with his 383-powered 1971 Plymouth Road Runner? One thing's for sure, the Datsun delivers a lot more suffering, and no one can believe it's more reliable than the Road Runner. Roadkill Nights powered by Dodge is an event series with legal drag racing in unexpected places—like right on Woodward Avenue in Pontiac, Michigan, in front of M1 Concourse! For our August 2016 event, we knew we would have 30,000 to 50,000 people showing up, so naturally we wanted to race the worst junk possible. In this episode of Roadkill, follow along as we take our clapped-out 1970 Dodge Challenger dirt-track car to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, buy a bunch of questionable speed parts from the swap meet, install them on the spot, and road-trip to Pontiac for Roadkill Nights. Along the way, there’s a detour to investigate a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400/four-speed car, Mike Finnegan’s dream machine. You’ll also meet our competition, special guest Mike Musto from the House of Muscle...
Bam! Stubby Bob goes big-time in this episode of Roadkill, presented by Dodge. In episode 44 of Roadkill, Mike Finnegan and David Freiburger took a 1950 Ford F6 dump truck and shortened the wheelbase to just 102 inches so it would look freaky-cool—but the truck wasn’t road trip–ready by the end of the show. This time, the truck is transformed by a supercharged big-block Chevy in the back with a Gearstar 4L80E transmission and a V-drive from a boat—all set up like a ’60s dragstrip exhibition wheelstander. But as the buildup continues, the big question is whether the weight balance and the massive dualie tires will really allow the truck to jerk the wheels off the pavement or not. The answer is some action you can’t miss. Roadkill is supported by Optima Batteries, CRC Industries, Lincoln Tec...
Roadkill powered by Dodge brings back a Mazda pickup powered by a 455 Oldsmobile in the bed! In Episode 45, Mike Finnegan and David Freiburger bought a lemon-colored Mazda REPU mini-truck with a 455 Olds big-block mounted in the bed, powering the rear wheels through a Toronado transaxle. The seller said it did wheelies and ran 10s in the quarter-mile. Not surprisingly, the guys quickly realized the lemon wouldn't run 10s even if it had unicorn blood in the engine. In this episode of Roadkill, the guys pull out all the stops to push the Mazdarati into 10-second territory by doing a top-end rebuild in the staging lanes of a dragstrip, road-tripping on HOT ROD's Drag Weekend event, and then making one heroic pass with the nitrous button pushed! People love it when we rescue old cars from the junkyard. We'll see what happens when they see this episode of Roadkill presented by Dodge, during which we literally hack a '56 Buick Century out of a thorn bush it’s been sitting in for 25 years, then continue slashing as we attempt to mount the body on a '73 Corvette chassis. Oh yeah, we hacked up that car, too. Watch for more Sawzalls, weed whacking, and plasma cutting per minute than any other episode of Roadkill. On this episode we present a new Roadkill project car: the Crop Duster! It’s a 1970 Plymouth Duster that Freiburger forgot that he owned—a result of multiple trades with a buddy, and at least 5 years of neglect in the dirt of a grape farm. Once he was reminded of the car, and with a 440 Mopar big-block sitting on the shop floor (salvaged from the General Mayhem ’68 Charger), it was evident what needed to happen. Freiburger and Finnegan headed up to the farm run by Steve Dulcich, editor of Engine Masters magazine, to drag the Duster out of its moss-covered indignity and attempted to get the 440 in the car and running, driving, and doing smoky burnouts within five days. Along the way, the trio did engine upgrades, butchered some headers, built a homemade driveshaft, cobbled together a used e...
