Hawaii (English pronunciation: i/həˈwaɪʲi/ hə-WY-(y)ee; locally, [həˈwɐ(ɪ)ʔi]; Hawaiian: Hawaiʻi [həˈvɐjʔi]) is the 50th and most recent state of the United States of America, receiving statehood on August 21, 1959. Hawaii is the only U.S. state located in Oceania and the only one composed entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is the only U.S. state not located in the Americas. The state does not observe daylight saving time.
The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight main islands are—in order from northwest to southeast: Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaiʻi. The last is the largest island in the group; it is often called the "Big Island" or "Hawaiʻi Island" to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania.

Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The U.S. government first obtained exclusive use of the inlet and the right to maintain a repair and coaling station for ships here in 1887. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on December 7, 1941 was the immediate cause of the United States' entry into World War II.
Pearl Harbor was originally an extensive shallow embayment called Wai Momi (meaning, “Waters of Pearl”) or Puʻuloa (meaning, “long hill”) by the Hawaiians. Puʻuloa was regarded as the home of the shark goddess, Kaʻahupahau, and her brother (or son), Kahiʻuka, in Hawaiian legends. According to tradition, Keaunui, the head of the powerful Ewa chiefs, is credited with cutting a navigable channel near the present Puʻuloa saltworks, by which he made the estuary, known as "Pearl River," accessible to navigation. Making due allowance for legendary amplification, the estuary already had an outlet for its waters where the present gap is; but Keaunui is typically given the credit for widening and deepening it.

The attack on Pearl Harbor (called Hawaii Operation or Operation AI by the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters (Operation Z in planning) and the Battle of Pearl Harbor) was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941 (December 8 in Japan). The attack was intended as a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were dama...
On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbour was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy airplanes and submarines, causing the American entry into World War II. USS Arizona is one of the ships that was sank by the Japanese attack. Four bombs hit the vessel, last one exploded and sank the ship killing 1,177 officers and crewmen. This is one of the most tragic events in USS history and at the same time one of the best planned attacks in war history. There is still an estimated 500,000 gallons of oil still in the hull of the USS Arizona battleship. With ongoing erosion, more oil escapes the hull each year. In 2006, 9.5 quarts (9 liters) of oil was measured leaving the ship. Eventually a serious hull breach will occur that could release thousands of gallons oil at a time.

Honolulu, the capital of the Hawaiian Islands has developed into a lively city. In the heart of the city there’s a statue in honour of King Kamehama The Third who in 1840 moved his government residence from the island of Maui to Honolulu on Oahu, thus unifying the island kingdom. In later years the Victorian Iolani Palace became the new residence of those who ruled Hawaii. Hawaii wouldn’t be Hawaii if it were not for its world famous surfers when during the winter season the northern part of Oahu with its Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach is extremely popular with surfers. A total of a hundred and thirty two islands, atolls and reefs make up the island group of Hawaii. Only a twenty-minute flight from Oahu and Honolulu is the fourth largest island, ‘Garden Island’ or, Kauai...
https://www.expedia.com/Honolulu.d1488.Destination-Travel-Guides Welcome to Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. Stationed on the island of Oahu, Honolulu is ready to show you surf and sun like you’ve never seen before. Whether you’re here to live the life of a beach bum or want to explore the city’s lush tropical surroundings, you’ll find everything you’re looking for on your Honolulu tour. Hawaii had a pretty explosive inception—Diamond Head Crater, also called Leahi, started life as an active volcano. Don’t worry; it’s since gone dormant, which means you can climb to the rim and take in a truly brilliant view of the coast. Head back down to the water and go paddleboarding or swimming; “Honolulu” means “sheltered bay,” and the beachfront here lives up to its name: It’s calm and sheltered y...

In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience. Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong. Finally, I wrap up the day by heading to the beach with a ukulele to have a jam session with a local Maui resident and ...

Touched down in Hawaii, we fell from the sky
A B-17 full of lonesome GI's
Inspected by generals with gold on their chests
Then a girl she put garlands of lfowers
Round my neck
Aloha... Aloha... to Pearl Harbor
The Pacific at midnight and stars filled the sky
I was holding her so tight, her swimsuit was dry
Then on the horizon and out of the dawn
Came the sound of tuned thunder
A mechanical swarm
Aloha...
(something's comin', comin', engines hummin', hummin')
Aloha...
(She's got warm lips, smooth hips, makes my soul flip,
wow!)
Pearl Harbor, Pearl Harbor...
(Chorus:)
Tora Tora, Dive bomb love
Tora Tora can't get enough
Tora Tora you're the one
Take me to the land of the rising sun
Tora Tora don't break my heart
Promise me we'll never part
Tora Tora you're the one...
To the sound of Glenn Miller, we danced cheek to cheek
[vocalised horns] I've waited all week
To call you and tell you this time it's goodbye
My bags are all packed and I'm ready to fly
Aloha...
(Repeat chorus)
(Repeat chorus, fade)
Sayanora...
