Erik Bo Anderson scored a late double to give Rangers a deserved 3-1 victory in the New Years derby match. Jorg Albertz had opened the scoring with an early rocket free-kick before Paulo Di Canio equalised midway through the second half. After substitute Bo Anderson had scored to again give Rangers the lead, Jorge Cadete tried to deceive the referee by controlling the ball with his hand while in an offside position, thankfully the linesman was awake and the goal was disallowed. Bo Anderson's late goal sealed the win and Rangers were favourites to win their ninth league championship in a row.
