This is an iconic AIP Beach film. One of the many I did in the 60's. Some I choreographed but this one I assisted David Winters whom I worked with throughout the 60's as his assistant. He was one of the great actor/dancers in the film West Side Story and also in the original Broadway musical. I'm still in touch with almost all the dancers in this movie especially Teri Garr my best friend the gorgeous leggy Oscar nominated blond dancing behind me. I can't tell you how hot it was shooting in the sun and difficult it was dancing on that sand. I think this was my first street dance battle.

Over the Months of rehearsing with Anne-Margret and Elvis Presley, David Winters and I became close friends with them . David the choreographer and I worked on many musical numbers for this film. Here’s "What'd I Say?" where I got to be the girl with the red dress on. The great George Sydney directed this film. Lance Lagualt is playing gutar in Elvis band he was Elvis's right hand man and was always his dance-in. in all of Elvis's films. David, Lance and I put together the choreography and then taught it to Elvis and Anne separately before we brought them together . Here I are the names of as many dancers as I can recognize: Teri Garr, Pete Menefee, Sharon Garret Brooks, Lorine Yarnell, Lance LeGault, Raul Ciro, Sonja Haney, Erwin Marcus, Harrad Sanders, and Roberta Tennis Doitch.

You're givin' me the chills, baby, please, baby, don't
Every night you still leave me all alone, Mickey
Oh, Mickey, what a pity you don't understand

Oh, Mickey, you're so pretty, can't you understand?
It's guys like you, Mickey
And what you do, Mickey, do, Mickey
Don't break my heart, Mickey
Hey, Mickey
Now if you take me by the, who's ever gonna know?
Every time you move, I let a little more show
There's something you can use so don't say no, Mickey
So come on and give it to me anyway you can
Anyway you wanna do it, I'll take it like a man
Oh, please, baby, please, don't leave me in the damn, Mickey
Oh, Mickey, what a pity you don't understand

So come on and give it to me anyway you can
Anyway you wanna do it, I'll take it like a man
Oh, please, baby, please, don't leave me in the damn, Mickey
Oh, Mickey, what a pity you don't understand
You take me by the heart and you take me by the hand

I reflect about experiencing James Brown, the famous flames and full orchestra LIVE on the TAMI Show 1964 as the assistant choreographer. I talk about the different dance styles that were used in the show from the chorus dancers, that were originally trained in Jazz but could cross over to the social dance steps of the time, like The Pony, The Jerk, The Twist, etc…, The chorus dancers in the TAMI show were the most popular television and movie dancers during this time period. They danced on shin ding, and most of the AIP beach films (As I was featured in these films you can view them on my channel). The real-deal legitimate Go Go Dancers hired for the show were the most famous club dancers in LA. The two girls in the fringe were known as Essie and Debbie and the male and female are Stevie and Joy Ciro. They took the name, Ciro, because they were the resident dancer’s at the most popular club on the Sunset strip- Ciro’s Club - The most famous night club of the time. That’s where I first saw acts like, Junior walker and the all stars and Ike and Tina Turner, Little did I know that in 1978, I would become Tina’s choreographer for the next 32 years. Seeing James Brown that night, changed my life, changed my dance style and pulled the rug right from under me. I thought I was the best Go Go Dancers happening anywhere, but after I saw him I realized I hadn’t crossed over to the other side of town and that I actually knew nothing. I continued to strive but the reality is, none of us will ever really attain the full breath of theatrical performance that James delivered from his music, his vocals, and his dance.

The award-winning international phenomenon THE X FACTOR is back. In Season Three of the hit competition series hosted by Mario Lopez, THE X FACTOR judges will travel the nation searching for talent 12 years old or over -- both solo artists and vocal groups -- who are willing to brave the panel for a chance to make their dreams of becoming a superstar come true. Auditions for THE X FACTOR were held this spring in Los Angeles, CA; Charleston, SC; New Orleans, LA; Long Island, NY; and Denver, CO.
Contestants will audition in front of THE X FACTOR judges, including Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio, and an audience of thousands. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence it takes to become a global superstar or breakout music act and win a recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.
Those contestants who survive the first auditions will be divided into four categories: Boys, Girls, Over 25s and Groups. Each category will be mentored by one of the show's judges. Not only is it a competition between the hopefuls to stake their claim for the coveted win, but it's also a showdown among the judges as to whose acts will dominate the competition and make it to the finals. The judges may have their say in how the competition progresses, but it will be up to America to decide who ultimately has THE X FACTOR.

The Lockers (originally named The Campbell Lockers) were a dance group formed by Toni Basil and Don "Campbellock" Campbell in 1971. Active throughout the 1970s, they were pioneers of street dance. Don Campbell is the founder of the locking dance style and originally, Locking was called The Campbellock - a style that was based on the dance and song that Don Campbell created. Toni Basil met Campbell at a club in 1971 and together they formed The Lockers as a dance group. Toni Basil also served as The Lockers' manager, and was responsible for staging the act. All the dancers contributed steps and choreography with their unique and individual styles. By 1975 they were "Dancing their way to stardom" on their own. Individual members' contributions (as soloist performers) to the dance style and group image coupled with their unique presentation in staging and concept broke down many barriers. It has been said on the reality dance competition So You Think You Can Dance that "The Lockers emergence on the dance scene changed the face of dance not only for street dancers but for dance in general and has made street dance a true American art form."
The Lockers many television appearances include Saturday Night Live, Soul Train, Carol Burnett, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. They have performed live on stage at Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Disneyland, The MGM Grand Las Vegas, Harrah's Reno, and Harrah's Lake Tahoe. The group was animated for their appearance in the 1982 film Hey Good Lookin' directed by Ralph Bakshi. They appeared in commercials for Schlitz Malt Liquor and Billy Preston's "Nothing From Nothing".
From 1973 to 1976, The Lockers consisted of the following members:
Don "Campbellock" Campbell, Toni "Mickey" Basil
Fred "Mr. Penguin" Berry, Greg "Campbellock Jr" Pope, Adolfo "Shabba-Doo" Quinones, Bill "Slim the Robot" Williams, and Leo "Fluky Luke" Williamson. There were alternates who filled in for original members from time to time. In mid 1976, three and a half years after the inception of The Lockers, Mr. Berry and Ms. Basil left the group amicably. At the end of 1976, dancer Tony "GO GO" Lewis Foster became an alternate member.
After The Lockers disbanded, group members continued to find success individually. Both Don Campbell and Toni Basil have received the "Living Legend of Hip Hop" award from Hip Hop International. Basil, who already had a successful career as a choreographer and actress prior to the Lockers, would go on to achieve pop music success with the Grammy nominated single "Mickey." Adolfo Quinones starred as Ozone in the street dance films, Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. He also did the choreography for Madonna's "Who's That Girl" tour. His awards include the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for outstanding contributions to hip-hop from The Carnival: Choreographer's Ball and the Drama Critic's Circle Award for Best Choreography for the musical Standup Tragedy.
Fred Berry would later find greater fame in the role of "Rerun" on the ABC sitcom What's Happening!!. One episode would feature a performance by The Lockers (except for Toni Basil). Berry also makes a cameo appearance in Toni Basil's "Shoppin' from A to Z" video.
As of December 2011 Leo "Fluky Luke" Williamson was attending classes with Ultimate Medical Academy, Tampa, Florida.
The Electric Boogaloos are a street dance crew responsible for the spread of popping and electric boogaloo. The name "Boogaloo" came from a song called Do a Boogaloo by James Brown. They were founded by Boogaloo Sam in Fresno, California in 1977. Their original name was the Electric Boogaloo Lockers but "Lockers" was dropped the following year.
On January 25, 2012, The Electric Boogaloos were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 13th anniversary show of The Carnival: Choreographer's Ball, for their role in popularizing dance styles such as popping and electric boogie, presented by choreographer and dancer Toni Basil.
Boogaloo Sam grew up in Fresno, California. He was inspired to create a new dance style after he watched some dancers locking on the television. He created popping and the boogaloo dance style. Popin' Pete, Boogaloo Sam's little brother, practiced his dance moves by watching Soul Train and doing the robot. Poppin' Pete was taught how to pop styles by his older brother Boogaloo Sam. He watched his brother pop styles and wanted to learn too. "Skeeter Rabbit" grew up in Los Angeles, and originally was only a locker until his cousins, Boogaloo Sam and Popin' Pete introduced him to popping. Suga Pop was determined to become part of the Electric Boogaloos after he saw them perform on Soul Train. Later, he moved to Los Angeles where he met Popin' Pete and Skeeter Rabbit and joined the Electric Boogaloos in 1997. He is currently a music producer. Mr. Wiggles is the most recent addition to the Electric Boogaloos, growing up from South Bronx, New York he is also a member of the Rock Steady Crew.
wn.com/The Lockers Electric Boogaloo (Soul Train 25Th Anniversary) 1976, 1979, 1995

It's been said that MTV owes Bruce Conner a paycheck. Decades before music videos were part of popular culture, the experimental filmmaker pioneered techniques of non-narrative montage and high-speed editing, cutting thousands of images to a pop music soundtrack.
THREE SCREEN RAY (2006) is a reimagined and expanded version of his seminal COSMIC RAY (1961), a literal cinematic slot machine where

SYNOPSIS
MAKE YOUR MOVE Speaks to a new generation of audiences through dance, music and love. Written and directed by DUANE ADLER, writer of two of the top grossing dance romance movies of all time, STEP UP and SAVE THE LAST DANCE, MAKE YOUR MOVE tells the story of Donny (DEREK HOUGH) and Aya (BoA), aspiring dancers who have one shot to make their move. The music is pumping, the dance floor is moving and Donny (DEREK HOUGH) stops when he sees Aya (BoA) performing with her hip hop Cobu crew on stage at Static, the hottest underground club in New York. They come from two different worlds, but they speak the same language-dance. Against all odds, they come together and show the world what they've got.Tap dancing on the street for small change after serving time for petty street cons,DONNY (DEREK HOUGH), knows he has to make a change. He knows his only way out of trouble is to leave New Orleans and head for New York where his older "brother from another mother," NICK (WESLEY JONATHAN), owns one of the hottest underground clubs, Static. Static, once run by best friends and partners, Nick and KAZ (WILL YUN LEE), the club comes alive at night with dancers and performance artists from around the world. When Kaz breaks with Nick and opens rival club Oto funded by MICHAEL (JEFFERSON BROWN) a sleazy Wall Street businessman who is obsessed with his sister, AYA (BoA) a performer at Static the whole dynamic changes. Michael promises to help Aya get a visa to stay in the country in exchange for an exclusive contract to perform at the new club. Aya refuses him and goes her own way. Now, Nick and Kaz are competitors and Aya needs a place to perform with her crew. She goes back to Static and secretly takes the stage where Donny is mesmerized by her performance. Joining her after the performance, they dance together as if they've been doing it their whole lives, until their brothers come between them. It doesn't take long for the Donny and Aya to find each other, and their love, on the dance floor. Aya and Donny now have to choose between their family ties, their love for dance, and each other. They must make their move.
MAKE YOUR MOVE stars international dance sensation Derek Hough (Dancing with the Stars) along with Korean popstar BoA, in her first English language feature film leading a cast of talented actors, dancers and artists in this classic dance romance, with a unique twist. Written and directed by Duane Adler (STEP UP and SAVE THE LAST DANCE), the film features choreography by Napoleon Dumo and Tabitha Dumo(SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW). The film is produced by CJ Entertainment (Snowpiercer), S.M. Entertainment and Robert Cort Productions (SAVE THE LAST DANCE)

Dennis Hopper has described the experience of seeing Bruce Conner's A MOVIE (1958) like lifting the veil from his eyes, an associative blur of images that would go on to influence the infamous acid trip scene in his film Easy Rider. Years later, Hopper recalls, he and Dean Stockwell held the lights for Conner as he filmed Toni Basil dancing for BREAKAWAY (1966), the short film set to her song of the same name. A rare example of a Bruce Conner musical film containing all original photography, what makes the film unquestionably Conner is his frenetic editing and the evanescence of his subject, a spirit flickering in celluloid. But Bruce Conner was restless and the energy of punk invigorated him. For MONGOLOID (1978), the short film Conner began preparing after seeing Devo on their first tour, Conner spliced together newsreel, educational, and b-movie footage which resonated with their satirical lyrics about an underdeveloped man-child determined to fit into and positively contribute to mainstream American society. Interview by Dave Fanning who said it was almost impossible to quantify the cultural impact David Bowie has had: “I mean, he was everything under the sun with every different album,” he said. “He completely and absolutely changed music. Never brought out two albums the same, always went into different kinds of music. David Bowie wasn’t a rock star, he was way, way, way above that. He’s always completely defied expectations in terms of anything he was expected to do.”
The Glass Spider Tour was a 1987 worldwide concert by David Bowie, launched in support of his album ‘Never Let Me Down. It began in May 1987 and was preceded by a 2-week press tour that saw Bowie visit 9 countries throughout Europe and North America to drum up public interest in the tour. The Glass Spider Tour was the first Bowie tour to visit Austria, Italy, Spain, Ireland and Wales. Through a sponsorship from Pepsi, the tour was intended to visit Russia and South America as well, but these plans were later cancelled. The tour was, at that point, the longest and most expensive tour Bowie had embarked upon in his career. At the time, the tour's elaborate set was called "the largest touring set ever".
Bowie conceived the tour as a theatrical show, and included spoken-word introductions to some songs, vignettes, and employed visuals including projected videos, theatrical lighting and stage props. On stage, Bowie was joined by guitarist Peter Frampton and a troupe of five dancers (choreographed by long-time Bowie collaborator Toni Basil). With the theme "Rock stars vs Reality," the show was divided into two acts and an encore. The set list was modified over the course of the tour as Bowie dropped some of his newer material in favour of older songs from his repertoire.
The tour was generally poorly received at the time for being overblown and pretentious. Despite the criticism, Bowie in 1991 remarked that this tour laid the groundwork for later successful theatrical tours by other artists, and the set's design and the show's integration of music and theatrics has inspired later acts by a variety of artists. Starting in the late 2000s, the tour began to collect accolades for its successes, and in 2010 the tour was named one of the top concert tour designs of all time.
The tour was financially successful and well-attended (being seen by perhaps as many as six million fans worldwide), but the poor critical reception of the album and tour led Bowie to not only abandon plans for other elaborate stage shows, but to reconsider his own motivations for making music. The tour was named after the album track "Glass Spider", and performances from this tour were released on the VHS video Glass Spider (1988, re-released on DVD in 2007).

It's been said that MTV owes Bruce Conner a paycheck. Decades before music videos were part of popular culture, the experimental filmmaker pioneered techniques of non-narrative montage and high-speed editing, cutting thousands of images to a pop music soundtrack.
THREE SCREEN RAY (2006) is a reimagined and expanded version of his seminal COSMIC RAY (1961), a literal cinematic slot machine where three reels of images meet and diverge and meet again. Influenced as much by the methodologies of assemblage as the kineticism of abstract expressionism, Conner cuts together images of sex, war, dancing, and cinema itself, before abrading and abusing the reel. The result is an explosive collage and a reflexive comment on the power of film and media.
